Billiards TD: 8 Ball or 9 Ball I have done this before, but I want a serious version this time.

outlaw is Gar fishing (122-76-18) vs Bucmaster: 7-3! (38-63-11)

I'm taking the most played billiards game in the world, 8-ball.

There are a few reasons why 9-ball doesn't get my vote on this one, one is as long as you hit the lowest numbered ball on the table first, and make the 9, you win(in a lot of cases you must call your shot, but for most non-pros you don't), and if someone is running the table on you, and makes the first 8 balls, but mess up on the 9, you can win despite being dominated just by making the 9.

However in 8-ball both players have 7 balls, and once you get down to the 8 ball, you have to call the 8, and making the 8 in the wrong pocket, or scratching on the 8 means you lose, which makes the game better.

Also 90 percent of the time, if you dominate the game of 8 ball, you win, because your opponent must make all of their 7 balls in before they have a chance at the 8, so barring making the 8 in the wrong pocket, or scratching on the 8, a dominated game equals a victory more than that of 9-ball.

Do you think 9-ball is better???

Then grow some nads and lets TD.

Sorry, it took me so long to respond.

8 ball is fun. Both games can turn around just like that. But 9 ball is harder to play. Wanna know why?

On 8 ball, you can hit whatever ball you like, as long is it your side, strips or solids. (Warning: Do not hit the 8 ball in until last.) For 9 ball, you must hit the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, in that exact order. Yeah, you might get the occasional 9 on the break, but the same thing could happen in 8 ball.

You have to have skill to hit the 1 ball first, or whatever ball you are on first. So, if you are on the 9 ball, and you miss the shot, it turns around just like that. It is full of suspense, for the players, and the people who are watching. In 8 ball, sometimes it is people outlasting their opponents by shooting the whole table....that happens in 9 ball. But not often.

I never said anything about which one is harder to play.

Just because something is harder to play doesn't make it better.

8-ball isn't the world's most popular billiards game for nothing.

It is because it is funner to play, and lasts longer, and If you leave an opponent with their 7 balls on the table, and you are down to the eight and miss, you are more than likely going to win still unless they turn around and run the table, or you scratch, or pocket the 8 in a pocket that you didn't call.

While in 9 ball, you can make 8 balls in a row, 1-8 and screw up on the 9 and unless you're playing a drunk in a bar, you lose, despite dominating the game.

Some may see that as better, but I don't, I hate it when my team dominates a game and loses, same with billiards. I always want whoever dominates a game to win.

You also say that the table isn't ran often in 9-ball, but in A LOT of professional games, only one person gets a shot(either by pocketing the 9 on the break, or running the table).

It is a lot harder to run a table on 8 with all the other guys balls in your way, so that point is out.

What was that all about, wait until within 10 minutes of a forfeited turn, and post nothing???????????????????????????????????????????????????

9-ball requires much more skill and strategy than does 8-ball... not only does it require one to have a greater understanding of how one shot lines up the next, but it also rewards consistency far more than 8-ball... and I always play to call my shots -- real pool players who engage in real billiard discussions ALWAYS know better than to assume their shot is called. I'd play the nine anyday...

If Buc don't give you a debate on this, Outlaw, challenge me with this... I'll gladly take you on anytime regarding this topic...

Alright, if he declines, take it, and btw, I NEVER play with anyone who doesn't call their shots, my favorite game is cut throat, but it requires 3 people, and it's a game I think my dad invented.
