In a 7 game series the Red Sox would beat the Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have had an excellent season this year, but when it comes down to a 7 game series I don't think that they will be able to overtake the Boston Red Sox. At this point the rays have literally no offense, and they will struggle to score runs late in games during the playoffs. The Rays pitching staff is tremendous, but in a 7 game series you have to score runs to win and I don't think the Rays can score enough.

The Boston Red Sox have won 2 of the last 4 world series so there they have an experience advantage already. The Rays have never even made the PLAYOFFS let alone the world series. The Rays have the slight edge in pitching, but the Red Sox have the definitive edge in hitting.

If you disagree throwdown, bring your "A" game. (wink)

Ok first off,

Last I checked you aren???t spotted games or even runs for winning games in past seasons. So, as far as this is concerned the 2008 Red Sox have NOT won a world series, or been to the playoffs, same as the Rays.

Next, to say that it is impossible for any team to win a series is kind of silly. Especially to say that about a team that is 6-6 against the Red Sox this season.

If this did take place it would have to be in the ALCS, and in that case the Rays currently have the better record so they would have home field advantage. This is HUGE b/c the Sox are 0-6 in Tampa Bay this year.

And as for your ???definitive edge?????? Manny???s gone, Ortiz is hitting WELL under .300 and J.D. Drew just went to the DL.

The Sox may have a better history, but in 08 don???t bet against the Rays.

Your points have merit and I don't disagree with your point about this being a different Red Sox team than the one that won the championship. The problem with the Rays is, they aren't even the team they started off the SEASON with! They've lost their two biggest offensive threats and you still think they can beat the Red Sox? As far as I'm concerned you can throw out the regular season record as well because the team the Rays have now is not the team they played the Red Sox with earlier.

While The Red Sox did lose Manny at least they replaced him with a pretty good player, while by no means is Jason Bay the player Manny was the Rays have no one to replace Longoria and Crawford.

It's easy for you to say don't bet against the rays because thats the sexy pick, but you haven't told me how they are going to actually to take down the Red Sox. I guess their gonna shove the Cinderella card in the Red Sox face eh?

Cinderella? Really?

I???ll buy a Cinderella story from a team that wins a few games in a row. Maybe gets hot at the right time or whatever, but the Rays are 80-51 right now, pretty sure you don???t get lucky over a 131 game stretch.

Now sure the Rays are without Carl Crawford, but .273 8 HR and 57 RBI isn???t exactly irreplaceable numbers.

As for Longoria, he has been taking swings this week, so I wouldn???t count on this guy missing the playoffs.

Even without these guys this team is still the real deal. What better test than to play the top team from the AL West and follow that up with a trip to play the best team in the AL Central?

The Rays JUST took 2 of 3 from both the Angels AND the White Sox. Seems to me that this team is STILL hot.

You act like the Rays are falling apart and the Sox are amazing. If that were the case the Sox wouldn???t be sitting 3 ?? game behind Tampa right now.

So here you go,
-Rays have a better record.
-Sox haven???t won a single game in Tampa this year (Rays would host this series)
-Rays are still beating the best teams in baseball without key players.

Outside of telling me about the past what makes the Sox the team to beat here?

Maybe you misread the td title, but were talking about a playoff series and all you want to do is bring up regular season numbers. I guess I can't blame you though because there are no prior Red Sox numbers for you to look upon.

If you insist on harping upon the fact that the Red Sox haven't won in Tampa this year then do so, but you sound like my little brother. So are the Royals better than the Yanks becuase they won 2 out of 3 from them? BS. schwartz...

In a 7 game series the Rays have no shot, whether they have home field advantage or not. They are inexperienced, lack offense, and are injured. Stay on the Rays bandwagon if you want, but I'll be their laughing when you run into a pole... Or should I say the bats that are the Boston Red Sox.

Alright,

Lets recap???

You say that the Rays have no shot against the Sox. Your argument is???

-Red Sox have won in the playoffs in the past (pretty sure that no longer matters as far as the 08 season goes).

-The Royals beat the Yankees. (umm???.ok)

-I sound like your little brother. (again???. What does that have to do with this?)

-The fact that the Rays have dominated the Sox in Tampa this year doesn???t matter b/c you said so. (well if a guy on a website says so it MUST be true)

-The Rays are hurt. (Umm???. JD Drew, Schilling anyone?)

Other than your opinion what do we REALLY have here? Some trash talk?

Well sweet, call a team lucky over a 131 game stretch and use nothing to back that up AT ALL.

I will say it again, the Rays are 6-6 against the Sox this year, pretty sure to say NO SHOT is a little ridiculous.

winky how do you have time to do TD's when you spend all that time droppign prices at walmart?

August 28, 2008  12:44 PM ET

We're talking about the inability to score runs, and yet the culprit there is the Rays? Maybe I'm pontificating here, but the Sox are missing Drew & Lowell, jettisoned the (1st or 2nd) greatest right handed hitter of this generation, and are scrapping here. Don't let the bludgeoning of Ponson fool you.

Lets just put it this way. The Rays have scored runs all year. They will continue to score runs.

Schwartz, are you pasting your arguments? If so, any apostrophe will cause that to happen, as well as in some cases a period or comma. If pasting, I usually just re-do all the puncuation after it's in the box.

moondizzle, yeah I can get around it, BUT this problem used to fixed on here
