NY fans should lay off A-Rod

I am not a Yankees fan, nor am I a big A-rod backer. But i am getting pretty tired of the NY sore loser fans booing the guy. He pretty much carried you guys last season. Sure he had some tough times, but if you put most players out there in his spot... you get nowhere.

This year he is getting booed mercilessly. However, he leads the team in the following categories:

Runs, HR, Total Bases, On Base %, and Slg %

He is also top 3 in several other categories.

It really makes me sick to see everyone back Jeter, yet boo A-rod. Jeter is having probably his WORST season ever, and yet nobddy says a word. Lay off the guy already.

NOT A CHANCE.

Remember, this is a guy who was working on a QUARTER OF A BILLION...with a B...contract who opted out.

He won an MVP and demanded MORE money.

And GOT it.

Now he's working on a contract that will pay him something approaching $300million. There are corporations not worth nearly that much.

ARod is and always has been the hired gun. If he doesn't do what he was hired to do he deserves every bit of booing he receives.

The Jeter comparison isn't legit. Derek is home grown. He's actually a leader of the team where Alex is an outcast, seemingly even among his own team mates. Jeter was actually part of Yankees championships. He's a REAL Yankee.

If you keep throwing out ARods overall stats you are going to force me to go get his clutch stats. You REALLY don't want to do that. Your best bet would be to drop the stats argument now and find another way to argue this. I'm giving you a free pass here...I won't be so kind next time. I will DESTROY the stats argument. Fair warning.

It's New York. Everyone who plays there gets the spotlight shown much brighter than anywhere else. If PayRod can't handle a few boos, he has no business playing in that town to begin with.

The Yankees have a current starting rotation that consists of Darrell Rasner and Sidney Ponson. Their "next big thing" in Joba is hurt. They have around 4 players in the pen nobody has even really heard of (Britton, Bruney, etc...). Bottom line : their pitching is TERRIBLE.

So what if Jeter is home grown? So what if he is the leader of the team? So what if he has 432 championships? If you are sh1tting the bed this year, you are sucking THIS YEAR!! As i said, he isn't doing his job of leading on the field.

Don't even get me started on guys like Cano. Add that into injury riddled stars (who were underachieving anyways) like Posada and Matsui... and you have a recipe for disaster.

My main point is this (and you cannot argue against it) : when you have a team with around 6 players failing to do their job, it is highly unfair to boo only ONE of them. If they Yankees fans are adopting the "what have you done for me lately" attitude in deciding to boo A-rod, they should boo the whole team, cause they all stink

Jeter isn't the one who opted out of a contract that made him far and away the highest paid player in baseball to demand a few million MORE per year.

Jeter isn't the one getting caught by paparazzi leaving Madonna's place at 3am on a game day.

Jeter isn't the one hitting .244 with 2 outs and runners in scoring position.

The Yankees rotation, Cano, etc. have no bearing on whether or not it's fair of the fans to boo ARod. Rodriguez brings the extra scrutiny on himself with his actions off the field and lack of clutch production on it.

If you are going to be arrogant enough to demand even MORE money when you are already the highest paid you'd damn sure better produce when it matters. Nobody cares that he's hitting .404 with an otherworldly 1.337OPS in blowouts that makes his overall stats appear reasonable. It's the .279/.850 in late and close situations that gets him booed.

Yankees fans are understandably frustrated with this season. Their $209mil team has way underperformed and ARod symbolizes everything that's wrong with the team. When a man pays a weeks wages to take his family to the ball park, he reserves the right to boo anyone he wants.

ARod is a fair target.

Jeter hasn't done anything to deserve to be the highest payed player in the league, so I don't really see the comparison in pay grades.

The fact remains that A-Rod is one of the best players in the league. He is the best player on the Yankees team. His multiple MVP awards and probable HR record breaking pace earn him those dollars. Posting the teams failures on him alone, is unfair. Hell, Carl Pavano deserves 90x more booing than A-rod.

I would love to see A-rod traded to another team and watch that team win the WS against the Yankees. Of course that probably won't happen, cause A-rod is to championships as Justin Timberlake is to box office movies.

The Yankees had Mr. October with Reggie.
They had Mr. May with Dave Winfield.
Now they have Mr. ten to nothing with Payrod.

As long as the game is a blowout in either direction the guy is the greatest hitter in history.

Clutch situation with the game on the line and he folds quicker than an illegal Mexican maid in a cheap hotel.

The only way you are going to see a team with Alex Rodriguez win a World Series is if you go Gillooly on him. That would be Jeff Gillooly, Tanya Harding's hit-man/ex-husband. Get Alex OFF the field in the post season and you might have a chance.

Carl Pavano isn't making $28mil/yr. to suck in the clutch.

Let me know when ARods multiple MVP awards step up to the plate with two out in the bottom of the 9th with the winning runner on 3rd and produce.

Yeah, I'm being harsh on ole Alex. Perhaps too harsh. But that's the point. If you are going to be paid nearly 50% more than anyone else in the game you damn well better produce when it counts and not just pad stats when there is no pressure.

Reggie Jackson was no where near the overall hitter ARod is, but I'd take Reggie 10 times out of 10 when it counts.

The boos are justified and well earned.

I predict that CCC gets 3 potential zings in this.

CCC, I considered taking this and saying the exact same stuff. Weird.

Great minds think alike. Surely you've heard that saying?

Jeter: 4 World Series Championships

A-Rod: 0

"Jeter: 4 World Series Championships

A-Rod: 0"

Interested to see his second argument on that point.

August 29, 2008  03:23 AM ET

I'm interested to see if he heeds your 'fair warning'.

August 29, 2008  03:25 AM ET

CCC, I was joking. I did that to say that I don't have a great mind. Geez.

August 29, 2008  03:38 AM ET

"I'm interested to see if he heeds your 'fair warning'."

Me too since I completely dared him to do so.

Considering the time it's taking to respond, I'm guessing he's looked it up...

Never can tell with you folks from Manitoba. That dry sense of humor you people have doesn't always translate. ;-)

"Or maybe he's gone to bed."

Why would you start a Td then go to bed?

August 29, 2008  03:45 AM ET

Glad to know church, whoever the F that is, still votes against me no matter what...

To piss off tightly-wound people like you.

August 29, 2008  03:51 AM ET

CCC, have you checked out my blog about my favorite Shaun Makienda quotes?

Link?

Pfft. I'm not tightly wound. I'm as laid back as anyone you know. I just prefer to get the easy ones out of the way quickly, lol.
