MUST BE ABLE TO FIINISH WITHIN AN HOUR

I know he turned down Green Bay's 1 year, 11 million dollar offer but he needs to be scooped up by an NFL franchise......GB would have been the ideal place for him since Rodgers, Brohm and Flynn are all inexperienced......

Pittsburgh should have contacted him since Culpepper is an upgrade over the person they signed, Byron Leftwich......

Type of injury he had typically takes 2 years to recover from and he showed promise with the Raiders last year (mad they let him walk)......

58.1%, 1,331 yards in 7 games=190 yards per game, 5 TD's, 5 INT's in 186 passes=1 every 37.2 attempts

The man is just 31......

Culpepper isn't being signed because anywhere he goes he's going to cause problems. He wants to be a starter, and most teams either have a solid veteran, or a youngster they are trying to work with. Green Bay doesn't need a QB controversy. They have to see what they have in Aaron Rodgers, and start grooming Brian Brohme. Culpepper doesn't help in that situation.

Um if Green Bay starts 2-4 or 3-5, Packers fans will turn rabid.......

And it isnt because he wants to be a starter, I have no doubt he would have signed with GB if they had offered him 3-4 million to be a backup......GB is a place where they can win and win now with their defense and running game......But they need a proven and experienced backup to Rodgers in case he struggles.......

Carolina could also use a capable backup to Delhomme who is coming back from Tommy John surgery and they have a project in Matt Moore backing him up......

Minnesota also might think about signing him if T Jack struggles and Gus Frerotte is like Brad Johnson, a stiff corpse walking upright

Fact: The average QB rating last year leaguewide was 82.3
Fact: Culpepper's QB rating of 78.0 makes his below average. He wasn't good in Oakland.

Fact: Culpepper's slide started before his injury. In 2005, he went 2-5 with a QB rating of 72.0 Brad Johnson, with the same team, went 7-2 after Culpepper got knocked out.

Culpepper thinks he's still a starter, but he's had opportunities with two rebuilding franchises and couldn't keep the job. There's a reason Pittsburgh went with Leftwich, and it's because Culpepper thinks he's a starter, and just need an opportunity. He's had it, and has failed 3 years in a row. If he hadn't been awful in 2005 before his injury, Minnesota would have brought him back. However, since his awesome 2004 season, he hasn't even been an average QB in the NFL, healthy or not.

Bringing him into a situation with a developing QB, or an started recovering from injury causes a controversy, similar to what Arizona has with Leinart-Warner. You think any team in the NFL would want that, especially with a veteran QB who isn't even as good as Warner?

QB Rating is an over rated stat, it is just 1 of many to consider......Not the end all be all, Jeff Blake had a better rating than Fran Tarkenton......

Who would you rather have????

Crickets chirping.......

Leftwich in 07

55.2%, 279 yards in 3 games=93 yards per game, 1 TD, 2 INT's in 58 passes=1 every 29 attempts, 59.5 QB Rating

Culpepper 58.1%, 1,331 yards in 7 games=190 yards per game, 5 TD's, 5 INT's in 186 passes=1 every 37.2 attempts

If Big Ben gets hurt, Steelers are as screwed as Pamela Lee has been over the years

Green Bay is built to win now, not in a couple years when Rodgers might develop.......They are used to Favre and will go nuts if Rodgers flames out......The guy has been injury prone carrying a clipboard for goodness sake, just wait till he gets smacked by a DT or DE.......

First, I'm not saying Leftwich is a better QB than Daunte. I'm saying he'll be a better teammate, because he accepts his role. Daunte is only NOW realizing that his career as a starter is done....after teams have just wrapped up their preseason schedules. So, now you think a team should take a flyer on a guy, and expect him to learn a new offense, and come in out of shape, at the expense of guys who have been with the team throughout?

I'm going to do my best to get this done as quick as possible. I'm waiting on a ride though, so I'll get as much as I can in before I have to get picked up. If we don't go the distance, I apologize.

dj is 100% right on

August 29, 2008  11:51 AM ET

Maybe you should, uh, wait until after there are some arguments posted to vote.....that's kind of the point of these things.

August 29, 2008  11:52 AM ET

Culpeppers problem is all attitude. But DJ's right, he should be on SOMEBODY'S roster.

August 29, 2008  11:55 AM ET

They can always switch vote, buck

August 29, 2008  11:56 AM ET

ok, i just dont see the GB thing, you tell favre no to take Culpepper?

August 29, 2008  11:57 AM ET

Culpepper to the Ravens

August 29, 2008  12:01 PM ET

dj, Really? I didn't know that. Just started doing these.

August 29, 2008  12:07 PM ET

I am same way, vote off gut reaction and check in most TD's 5-6 times to check up on things

August 29, 2008  12:07 PM ET

Thought he would be good there, Oriole Fever

August 29, 2008  12:10 PM ET

Crap, I wasn't done with that argument. I hit submit by accident when I was trying to move the page down. *shrug*

August 29, 2008  12:11 PM ET

That was fun though. I wish they had a section for quick throwdowns, lasting only an hour or two.....the 3 day ones are crap.

August 29, 2008  12:12 PM ET

No signs Pepper hasnt been staying shape

Hey good job doing a quick 1 and THANKS for following RULES, dont know if I will be on here Sat

August 29, 2008  12:12 PM ET

And for the record, I'd take Jeff Blake......Fran is like 70.....

Although, yeah....it'd be a tough call.

August 29, 2008  12:13 PM ET

Yeah, I'm sure Daunte is in "shape".....but there's a difference between being in shape on your own when you come into camp, and being in football shape after a month of camp and game action.

August 29, 2008  12:13 PM ET

Its a learning process, takes a while to learn the ropes

LOL

Good job

August 29, 2008  12:14 PM ET

If he was offered a job, and turned it down, then he's too stupid to deserve a spot on an NFL roster.

August 29, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Culpepper is better than Green in St Lou, he is better than a lot of backups and will be fine

He wasnt a big distraction with the Raiders

August 29, 2008  12:14 PM ET

Here's an aside to the argument.....I imagine that if a team gets into an emergency situation, they'll call him (Maybe even Pittsburgh.....if Ben goes down, and Leftwich needs to play, they'll probably need another QB....and will Daunte be any less prepared to play then than he is now?).....but if he doesn't catch on with some team during the season, I think his career as a starter or backup is over.

August 29, 2008  12:18 PM ET

Sure, he's better than a lot of backups in potential and in theory.....but Green is familiar with St. Louis, and he's also a much better mentor than Culpepper would be. Because honestly, do you really think Culpepper brings anything to the learning process of other QBs? Green has been around a long time, and you hope you don't end up relying on your backup, and I think you go in with that mentality.....but the backup still has to bring something to the team besides having the potential to win games in the event the starter is injured.....and to be honest, with his performance over the last 3 seasons, I don't think Daunte really gives many teams a much better chance to win than their current backups. If anything, it's a tossup, or a close-win in his favor....but aside from the potential to win now if the starter goes down, he doesn't seem to bring much to the experience end of mentoring, and he isn't a young guy they can groom.....he's a stop gap in the backup position.
