The Jets chances of making the playoffs in 2008 are not any greater with Brett Favre! It's a tough one (I'll probably lose) but consider argument...

Hear me out please. I'm a Jet fan!

I have been to a couple of practices at Hofstra with Brett there. A friend of mine is the Jets' WR coach (Noel Mazzone). I have also been listening carefully to Brett's comments regarding his move and reading the various sport sections in the local papers. Overall his coming to NY intentions and reasons are just a bit awkward, for the lack of a better word. He's upset about the fact that the Packers were looking to move forward. From his own cooments it seems that he wanted the entire team to wait for him to make up his mind about retirement, which he could not do for some time.

Even with the Jets he won't commit to more than one year. He'll barely have a conversation about it. The Jets held onto four - (4) QBs for a reason. They don't really see Brett as a high impact player (on the field). . .

Brett has a tremendous amount of pressure on him and again, I don't think his mind is straight. I believe that some of the back-up QBs could play just as well, if not better than he will as a NY Jet. Does anyone predict many interceptions and sacks? I do! It's proven that experienced (franchised) QBs struggle when switching teams.

The Jets keeping 4 QB's has absolutely NOTHING to do with Brett Favre. Mangini simply hasn't decided whether Aingle or Ratliff is going to be the 3rd QB, yet. Keeping both on the 53 just gives them another week to make the decision, that's all. One of them will be cut later this week.

"They don't really see Brett as a high impact player (on the field). . . "

RIIIIIGHT. They traded a valuable draft pick and are paying Favre some $12mil. But they don't expect much from him? Is the Jets front office really THAT inept?

"It's proven that experienced (franchised) QBs struggle when switching teams."

Proven by who?

As far as if Brett Favre increases the Jets chances to make the playoffs, the title of this TD that you didn't address at all, of course he does.

Increased chances simply means the chances are greater now than they were with the previous guy.

So. Who did Brett Favre replace? Noodle armed Chad Pennington, of course. Now are you seriously going to claim the team doesn't have a better chance of going to the playoffs with a guy who finished second in MVP voting a year ago, vs. Pennington who, on the rare occasions he was healthy, just sucked?

"Is the Jets front office really THAT inept?"

I'll quote you as you do in every argument and TD you do. The answer to your question is yes! Have you not seen or heard of teams doing similar things (for all the wrong reasons).

The Jets made there money back on Brett the day they drafted him in tickets sales and on a ton of stuff with the #4 on it. It got a lot of hype, especially here in NY. Now people are wondering if it was in fact he best move.

This is also "NOT" about Chad. This is about he Jets as a team and an organization. I made reference to three other QBs as you noted (again). I do believe that Kellen Clemens could have lead the Jets as the starting QB and I do beleive that they have something special in both Ainge and Ratliff.

Back to Brett! He has not even had time to learn the majority of the Jets plays, which are more extensive than people realize. The team is talking about how they have to adjust to him rather than he adjusting to the players and overall team play schemes. That is a recipy for disaster!

I still say Brett did not want to leave Green Bay and he truly has not interest in NY, except to keep his career going and prove something.

"The Jets chances of making the playoffs in 2008 are not any greater with Brett Favre!"

That's the subject of the TD.

Favre > Pennington
Favre > Clemens
Favre > Ainge
Favre > Ratliff

To believe otherwise goes way beyond ignorant...straight into the land of blackout drunk. (I'm shooting for Cassidy's vote, here)

ALL ELSE being equal, OF COURSE the better QB gives you the better chance of winning, or in this case of making the playoffs.

Sorry, I don't buy your story about the Jets WR coach being a close friend of yours sharing internal information with you. Whatever you are reading in the NY tabloids is worth about as much as the paper it's written on.

Of course there is an adjustment period. And of course the Jets will scale back the passing plays in the offense some during the learning curve. That's a given, but not necessarily a bad thing. There were plenty of plays in the playbook they couldn't run with Pennington under center either. Simply because he wasn't capable of making the throws. That's not a problem with Favre, he can still make all the throws under all circumstances

And what has Favre done best his entire career? IMPROVISE. It's easily his biggest strength.

Forfeited Turn

Ah...the BIGcat with a BIG forfeit in the middle of a BIG beat down. I'm sure you had a BIG crisis that prevented you from posting your BIG 3rd argument to seal the deal. Hope your goldfish makes it. Seriously.

There really isn't much left to say. The Jets probably aren't a playoff team either way, but to claim he was no better an option than the other 4 choices the J-E-T-S had is beyond absurd.

Brett Favre is to the Jets what Aunt Jemima is to pancakes. Slow, sticky, and not real good for you but ultimately makes a dry, bland, generic product better and much easier to stomach.

September 1, 2008  11:24 PM ET

Makes sense, CCC.

September 1, 2008  11:27 PM ET

There are two of these, but CCC argued much better than that oaf that took the other one.

September 1, 2008  11:29 PM ET

Named Roberts?

September 1, 2008  11:29 PM ET

Obviously posting two was an accident but CCC I have no worries with you because you don't seem to get it anyway! I'll argue both since I put both out there.

September 1, 2008  11:44 PM ET

hmmm so it comes down to do I think Pennington, Clemens or Favre would give the Jets the better chance right now I am taking Favre. I will wait for all arguments though before I decide on a vote

September 1, 2008  11:55 PM ET

Pennington is very smart, just has no arm.

September 1, 2008  11:58 PM ET

Voting right, vote will change if arguments warrant it.

Lol. OK, Peachy.

September 2, 2008  12:11 AM ET

Favre is a nice improvement for the Jets.

September 2, 2008  12:20 AM ET

Favre will throw 340 interceptions and go back to the season form he was in 2 and 3 years ago. I think last year was a fluke.

And if he does that he is STILL better than Clemens.

September 2, 2008  01:03 AM ET

Oh look...Roy/Cassidy/John Joe voted against me. Wonder how many of his other accounts Roy will use to vote against me here.

Yeah, do you shoot your mouth off with every comment you make, or its just a coincidence its every one I have come across since joining this site a couple days ago? People are accusing me of being somebody(falsely), but no one is ever going to call me a cry baby like you.

September 2, 2008  01:18 AM ET

John Joe, I was kidding. I think CCC is one of the best users on this site.

Roberts, his most recent comment above is the most whiny thing I have seen in the last 48 hours. If you think thats the best, you need to get out more.
