On the Site that Shall not be named
They have a Poll, and like Lakers finding a Mint copy of Pretty in Pink- the unrated edition , they get a little Crazy
The Question
Who is the greatest in Ravens history?
THIER Pick?
Matt Stover
I want ONE of the 53.7% (I know some of you visit both sites)
to DEFEND this MISTAKE
My Pick?
Heck with it- I'll give you FIVE and you can defend Stover against ANY of them
Ed Reed
Ray Lewis
Jonathan Ogden
Jamal Lewis
Todd Heap
Defend against ANY of them
Peace Out said 09/02, 07:37 PM
OK I will take Stover over Heap.
Yup I said it give me the kicker over the TE. ARE YOU READY? ARE YOU READY? BRING IT ON!
The only thing consistant since the beginning of the Ravens has been MATT STOOOOOVER. He has been there from the move, to the SB when ever you need him, hitting the FG's. His percentage is 83.8, and did you know he has more FG's kicked, and has a higher average then Adam "I am the King of Clutch" Vinatieri. Vinatieri is only at 82.3 with 124 less kicks, yet everyone is ready to all but put his bust into Canton already.
Matt Stover has done more for that franchise then any other player. Why because he's been there since day one.
Don't underestimate a player just because he doesn't play a "fan friendly" posistion. I mean who buys kickers jersey's right...I'll tell you who Ravens fans. He's up there for players.
In conclusion he has meant more to the Ravens then most players and especially Todd Heap, I mean they still remember a guy named Sharpe over there.
A throwdowner named NCshvDavid said 09/02, 07:55 PM
Heap has 2 Pro Bowls- and that in a Conf with Tony G and Gates- two players that will go down as some of the greatest of all time.
Thats like being an NFL QB and playing with Montana, Aikman, Marino and Elway as your Competion.
YEs- Mattitude has been there forever- But he only has ONE pro-bowl in 12 years
and Matt has only lead the NFL in FG% ONCE in his 12 years in Baltimore
Adam has done it twice- and has kicks in playoff games that are kinda memorable as well.
Anther Problem for Stover is that he has only TRIED 2 kicks from 49+ in THREE YEARS - showing he does NOT have the leg of an Elam or even a Kasey
Maybe its that 9 for 19 49+ success rate that holds him back a little bit.
Heap is a BETTER tight end than Stover is a Kicker
Peace Out said 09/03, 09:40 AM
Just because he is not the kicker dejour, does not mean he isn't a really good kicker. Lots of players get pro bowl snubs, and that means what exactly? Doesn't make them any less of a player.
First and I can't believe you got this wrong, he was an alternate for the PB in 1994, and went to the PB in 2001. Look it up, if you need assistance:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2001_Pro_Bowl
(the kick is up, the kick is good)
I have already established why he is considered the "greatest Raven" Now let's talk about memorable.
Did you know, that he hasn't missed more than five kicks in a season since 1998, that's more dependable then Gus the football kicking mule. Think about that for a mintue, he is dependable for them. Hence why he has kept his job this long.
Also think about this what players besides kickers can enjoy the average longevity they do, if history is any kinda guide then Matt Stover could be kicking until about the time Lifer gets his college degree (which should be in right about ten years).
You down play him because he is a kicker, any other posistion and he would be the clear choice in this matchup
A throwdowner named NCshvDavid said 09/03, 11:26 AM
Stover has been to ONE Pro bowl as a RAVEN
in 1994 - They WERE the BROWNS
When Modell moved the team- the TEAM HISTORY stayed in CLEVELAND
Stover has TWO Pro-Bowls TRUE
ONE as a BROWN
ONE as a RAVEN
one thing you should know Prodigy,
I AM NEVER WRONG
Next, He is a KICKER- the only person more replaceable than the Kicker on a team is the PUNTER.
THink about it- do you think if you offered the Ravens a Number 2 pick for Stover he would be GONE in about 10 seconds?
How about Heap? They would LAUGH at you.
and the FACT that Stover does not even TRY to hit long range anymore shows how much the coaching staff does not value him that much either.
Down 2- 5 seconds left- Ravens at the 45 yard line
I bet HEAP, NOT Stover is the one trotting onto the feild.
Peace Out said 09/03, 11:46 AM
LMAO at your assertion that kicker is replacable. If that's the case then how the heck as Anderson hung around as long as he has? Ask Dallas if a great kicker doesn't make a difference. You underrate this position simply because it's a kicker and I say these guys typically are your leading scorers, as much as "real" football people don't want to admit it, you want him on that wall you need him on that wall.
The NFL or National Field Goal League is so close most of the time that a kicker can and is one of the most important tools in the aresenal.
There are many teams that would give anything to have someone as consistant as Stover.
Heap needs to start staying on the field and staying healthy before I even put him in Stovers class.
You act like getting to a PB is the end all be all, well guess what sorry but it is not. Stover was there when the Ravens coudln't score TDs , he was there when the team pushed to a SB (largely due to their defense as well as his leg).
Stover has a ring, Heap has nada so far. Stover scores more points for the Ravens then Heap ever will. Stover is greater then Heap

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Stover hold the record for most points by one player on a single team?

Oh for the love of crap! This has gone too far. Attributing victory in a team victory to one player is asinine at best, just plain old stoooopid at best. When that player is a QB, well, okay you can get carried away sometimes. But when its a freakin kicker??? Come on!!! The final score of the Super Bowl was 34-7. All because of Matt Stover. Who single-handedly won Baltimore a Championship.

You assclown! If you want to wage a jihad against Cassidy, do so without it spilling over everywhere and affecting people who have absolutely nothing to do with your immature middle-school sniping.

I have had just about one goal in mind these last few months on the nation, and that goal was to educate users on who is straight up in their Tds and who is shady. Well the education plan has failed to say the least, now the whole thing has basically turned into one posse for one posse against.
This has bled over to other TDs please see the Pimps blog on the subject. I have decided that this site has become well, a shadow of what it once was, great Tders like rstowe, and many others have already pulled back from the TDs. That got me to thinking, what the heck am I spending so much time on here for? To spread the word about the greatness of MMA?
Basically the way I see it is this, this site will never be about the better arguments, it just won't. As much as folks on here like to claim they always vote for the arguments, or the better side in the debate; this simply isn't true. I can guarantee that at one time or another everyone of us has voted in a td based off something other then the arguments. I won't go into the details of who does what or says what to get votes, and I really don't want to make this tirade strictly about votes anyways. I want to talk about the nation as a whole.
Groups are formed on here and abandoned. TD's have become less about arguments and more about who can google or wiki and paste faster. I honestly am having a hard time these days actually being INFORMED in a td. It used to be back in the day you would get lots of good info in TDs but not so much anymore. Now it's just well, for the most part bad.
I am not mad, I am not sad, I am simply resigned that this site will never be right, and that is OK. It's OK for it to be like that, I however am choosing to forgo the game. I am choosing to sit out. I am choosing to leave the nation. I have realized that I am a super competitive guy (well I knew that part already) and that the pure joy of competing in the three boxes is gone. I mean what does all this time spent really do for me? My answer nothing. It doesn't make me a better person, doesn't make me a BIGGER fan, doesn't make me anything.
Basically it just helps me waste time while at work. That's it. That's all this site is good for, wasting time. Well I got a life to live and I ain't wasting no more of it on here. Don't bother leaving messages, or comments. I am asking the mods to delete me as you read this. Some will say good he's finally gone, some will say who gives a crap, but I will say Peace Out. Cause that's all I got left to say. If I am in a TD with you I will be forfeitting it.
Peace Out Nation
It's been real, it's been fun sometimes its been real fun.
Peace Out
