On the Site that Shall not be named

They have a Poll, and like Goodell finding Scott Norwood alone in a dark alley, they get a little Crazy

The Question

Who is the greatest in Vikings history?

THIER Pick?

Fran Tarkenton

I want ONE of the 28.0% (I know some of you visit both sites)
to DEFEND this MISTAKE

My Pick?

ALAN PAGE

First his stats (I know but it's kinda mandatory in this case)
9x Pro Bowl selection
6x All-Pro selection
1975 NFL MVP
1964 Pro Bowl MVP

Vikings Career Passing Yards Leader with 33,098
Vikings Career Passing Touchdowns Leader with 239
He threw for 47k
He ran for a TD for 15 years total
He is fourth on career QB rushing list
There are only 2 QBs to rush for over 300 yards in seven seasons he is one of them
he was ranked number 59 on The Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Football Players
He pimps prestigous companies like Tony Robbins and 1-800-BAR-NONE

Fran in my mind is underrated, and probably for good reasons in the grand scheme of things. He didn't win the big one, and not all of them were his fault but still he got enough chances. However he has to be up there on the list of greatest Qbs all time, and well QB is more valuable to an organization then any end even a great one. If Dan Marino is the greatest Dolphin all time, then I say Fran must also be considered in the same light. No disrespect to Alan intended but I hate to break this to everyone a DT doesn't touch the ball every play. His decisions don't affect a team as much. A Qb's does.

I will agree that Fran is almost forgotten player (read his book if you ever find it by the way)

But I don;t think that he is as good a QB as Page is a player- yes the QB is the Glamour Position- but Page was simply one of the top 5- DT of all time- if not top 2 to most people

Not even the biggest Minny Fan alive would state Fran is in the top 5 QB of All-Time.

QB is more valuable to an organization then any end even a great one

So you think that giving ANY QB say 15-20 seconds to find a wideout is a good thing??

how good ARE your corners anyway?

You can have Ryan Leaf as a QB- and Tim Silva and Butterbean as the wideouts- and giving him 20 seconds a down and you are going to lose.

The disrespect you show to a DT is strange to say the least.

he was ranked number 59 on The Sporting News list of the 100 Greatest Football Players

Really? Cool- Look up a bit

Alan Page is 34 th on that List.

I guess you took my accurate description of the meaning of a Qb to the team to somehow disrespect Defensive lineman. I love my Dlineman, and I hate to break this to everyone but...cough...um the QB besides the Center gets his hands on that ball almost every play (unless of course you direct snap to a RB or a WR) so doesn't it stand to reason that the QB is a more important posistion. It's not the DT's job to drive the team down field for the win, it's just not.

It is however their job to stop the other teams attack, and Minnesota and the Purple Peaople Eaters were great at that. I do have one problem here and maybe you can address it for me, Page was surrounded by nastiness. He had tons of great help on the Dline.

Fran scrambled and made his receivers look good. He bought his team time, it did whatever it took to make them into winners. He isn't the biggest QB, he isn't the strongest QB, but he maximized the skills he was given. If Minnesota never had Fran then the case for Page is a slam dunk, but since they did, its not so clear cut.

I would never say that the QB is a not important position- it is- but it is a relection of the TEAM- and what they can do-

But lets face it- bottom line is that on the Defense side of the ball after MLB - DT might be the second most important position on that side of the Ball.

and there are FEW in the history of the NFL that can even TRY to compete with Alan Page

Fran (seriously, read his book) Might be a great QB - but there is not even Minny Homers that chant his name as the GOAT at his position.

Page joins a Minny team that was 8th in D- they drop to 6th his rookie year and for the rest of the time he is in Minny- they drop below third ONCE.

Thats pretty good.

Much as been made of the scrambling ability of Fran- his BEST year he had 376 yards. McNabb had beaten that 4 of his 9 years in the NFL!

Even your OWN list at the Sporting News Proves Alan is MUCH better at His job than Fran was at His.

note tot he nation, I am just taking the other side

September 2, 2008  07:28 PM ET

Pimp,
I thought you already did this one and chose Cris Carter. What am I mixing this up with?

September 2, 2008  07:32 PM ET

I took that as an OPEN GOAT - this is the Sport nation picks

September 2, 2008  07:33 PM ET

Oh, he's gonna be all over you about your perceived lack of respect paid to defensive linemen, especially since Page is a part of the greatest defensive line in Vikings history.

September 2, 2008  07:39 PM ET

I'm just saying were judging these players not the other guys they played with and a QB does mean more to a team, hence all those pesky rules about hitting the QB now a days.

September 2, 2008  08:16 PM ET

Where would the QB be without the line? And Page was apart of the Purple People Eaters or whatever.

September 2, 2008  08:18 PM ET

Wan't Randy White a Viking?

John Joe | 09/02/08, 08:29 PM

If anyone doesn't know that "John Joe" is just Roy hiding like a little beeotch, they gotta be living under a rock. And now that we know who Roy voted for (twice) in this TD, it's only fair that the other side receives their share of ballot box stuffing as well. A vote from Roy means twenty votes for the other guy. Drive Roy from FN.

September 3, 2008  04:21 AM ET

Thanks for the heads up, Atro. "Love the new montra - a vote from Roy means twenty votes for the other guy." I wouldn't want that freak anywhere near one of my TD's.

September 3, 2008  04:22 AM ET

Sorry, Darth. Roy just ain't kosher.

September 3, 2008  11:04 AM ET

Atro Steals Your Base, Judge Chamberlain Haller, Kosher Dave:

You are becoming as despicable as you perceive Cassidy to be. Take a step back. You are voting out of spite against someone who has absolutely nothing to do with your Cassidy vendetta. Disgusting.

hey ram...do you think my argument was better?

September 4, 2008  12:35 PM ET

I have had just about one goal in mind these last few months on the nation, and that goal was to educate users on who is straight up in their Tds and who is shady. Well the education plan has failed to say the least, now the whole thing has basically turned into one posse for one posse against.

This has bled over to other TDs please see the Pimps blog on the subject. I have decided that this site has become well, a shadow of what it once was, great Tders like rstowe, and many others have already pulled back from the TDs. That got me to thinking, what the heck am I spending so much time on here for? To spread the word about the greatness of MMA?

Basically the way I see it is this, this site will never be about the better arguments, it just won't. As much as folks on here like to claim they always vote for the arguments, or the better side in the debate; this simply isn't true. I can guarantee that at one time or another everyone of us has voted in a td based off something other then the arguments. I won't go into the details of who does what or says what to get votes, and I really don't want to make this tirade strictly about votes anyways. I want to talk about the nation as a whole.

Groups are formed on here and abandoned. TD's have become less about arguments and more about who can google or wiki and paste faster. I honestly am having a hard time these days actually being INFORMED in a td. It used to be back in the day you would get lots of good info in TDs but not so much anymore. Now it's just well, for the most part bad.

I am not mad, I am not sad, I am simply resigned that this site will never be right, and that is OK. It's OK for it to be like that, I however am choosing to forgo the game. I am choosing to sit out. I am choosing to leave the nation. I have realized that I am a super competitive guy (well I knew that part already) and that the pure joy of competing in the three boxes is gone. I mean what does all this time spent really do for me? My answer nothing. It doesn't make me a better person, doesn't make me a BIGGER fan, doesn't make me anything.

Basically it just helps me waste time while at work. That's it. That's all this site is good for, wasting time. Well I got a life to live and I ain't wasting no more of it on here. Don't bother leaving messages, or comments. I am asking the mods to delete me as you read this. Some will say good he's finally gone, some will say who gives a crap, but I will say Peace Out. Cause that's all I got left to say. If I am in a TD with you I will be forfeitting it.

Peace Out Nation

It's been real, it's been fun sometimes its been real fun.
