If you were a City
and you had a chance to have an NFL, NBA or MLB team (FANS not included)
Witch one would you take?
I would take the NBA Franchise.
A throwdowner named NCshvDavid said 09/03, 03:49 PM
I am STUNNED you did not take the MLB
ok.
First you have to look at the COSTS of such a building- the Cowboys are building a BILLION DOLLAR place that has to be maintained 24/7 (costs to the city)
The Newest NBA Arena - the Fed Ex Forum is 250 Mill- even the Nets new place is estimated to be 350-400
So it is MUCH CHEAPER for the NBA to begin with.
Next.
Uses
FB- FB only- unless you book Ozzfest or the Stones- you might get 12 dates a year - unless you are in TExas no High School team is going to put 100K butts in the seats -
so you have almost 355 days of a HUGE Building sitting there -even if you combo with a coll- you still have over 345 Days of nothing
Now the NBA Arena is going to be used 45+ times per year-
Then it can be used for
NCAA teams (-15-20 days)
NCAA Tournaments (-5 days)
Concerts GALORE ( How many? Shreveport has at LEAST an event every other week- and we couldn;t get a NADL team)
Plus High School Graduations, HS Tourneys, Disney on ICE, Rodeos etc.
American Airlines Arena is ALWAYS having something going on- yet Texas Stadium sits Quiet most of the year.
This is NOT about Popular- its about smart business
dp169 said 09/03, 04:34 PM
OK, this is bull$***, I had a great one and it logged me off. Let's see if I can remember it all.
If you were to build a stadium with a retractable roof, you get the same uses as a NBA stadium with more room of course. With the roof back though, you get some of those events to be more enjoyable. For instance, concerts would be better because, there would not be echoing, so you can actually hear the performance. Rodeos would be better, because you wouldn't have the strong smell of $*** filling up the stadium. If it's a beautiful day, you can play with the roof open.
While it may be cheaper to build a NBA stadium, you get more seats at a NFL stadium, more fans in them, and with higher ticket prices, MUCH MORE back in profits.
So, in this case, popularity = smarter and better business. Not only do you have more people buying more expensive tickets, but you have more people watching on TV, more people buying PPV packages, and more people listening on the radio.
A throwdowner named NCshvDavid said 09/03, 04:56 PM
I want you to list me the staduim shows that would fill a 100K person arena
Please- I want to see this list.
more people buying PPV packages
PLEASE DON;T GIVE JERRY JONES IDEAS
What NFL package is PPV?
Next
Average Ticket in the NFL was 67.83 so in a 80K place you have 5.4Mil for 8 games 43.4 on seating alone
Average Ticket in the NBA was 48.83 so in a 21K place (NBA average) you have in 41 games 1,029,000 per game or 42.2 Mil
So you gain a 1.2 Mil on Seating costs- but I have over 33 dates to sell parking, Food, Beer etc.
Your tickers are NOT that much more expensive if you take the AVERAGE and multiply it out.
To get that 600-800M back is going to take you some time.
dp169 said 09/04, 08:39 AM
Even in a case where you are out of state, like myself and probably thousands of others, we have to buy games on PPV. Or spends hundrends on packages. If thousands of people did that, a certain % goes to the team.
I have been to a couple of concerts at a football stadium, and there were probably 80-90K people there. That happens a couple times a year. I paid $80 for a lower level ticket (at a discounted price).
NCAAF fills NFL stadiums, especially during bowl season.
High school state football tourneys fill up NFL stadiums, that's probably about 6-8 games.
So, I getting much closer to you 41 games per year. And with prices for my stadium compared to yours, we probably are very close to equalling out. But, with the extra TV packages NFL sales at anywhere from $75+, that makes a pretty big difference.
I guess there was no question that the NFL is more popular and attracts more people than the NBA, since you didn't have an argument for that one.
Did you know fantasy football started in the 60's, fantasy basketball was borrowed from baseball and never even got popular until the 90's. Just another way to show how much more popular the NFL is.

Many football stadiums hold all of those events, BofA not so much any more but other stadiums do.
Football is a better market than the NBA - besides the salaries and the stadium everything else is more profitable than the NBA as far as I know.
Money isn't everything too.

Im leaning to dave since he has the better argument so far....even with a retractible roof no one wants to play in a football stadium, they dont use them for baseball much anymore and even though the ticket prices may be through the roof, if your team sucks ull make less then a suckie nba team. Unless your the dallas cowboys or green bay packers you wont make a ton as an nfl owner considering how much the stadium cost to build and maintian while its not in use

No one else does ...well there are about ten people that actually read the entire arguments, so **** it I am voting however I feel from now on, apparantly the only things that matter in TDs are the number of dupe acocunts you bring to the table, and how many friends you can fanmail before the td is over....
