1. Matt Hughes (34 years old) after 2 defeats he doesn't look the same in his division.
2. Chuck Liddell who has lost 3 of his last 4.(impressive victory over Wanderlie Silva in Dec.though. /38 years old
3. Rich Franklin from just the middleweight division which he has because he CAN"T beat Spider but in ATL at UFC 88 said he doesn't know how long he will stay in Light heavy.

Take out any of the three you like and insert....

Dan Severn.

Dude is FIFTY FOUR years old.

If they keep running him out there and letting him WIN, it will quickly expose MMA as just another WWE. Scripted nonsense.

Now, I don't know enough about MMA or the UFC to proclaim it fake, and as of now it certainly isn't being accused of such. But....

A 54 year old champion in the the super-heavy division?

No way man. You ain't selling that bull to me or any other prospective future fan.

As the UFC in general and MMA in particular tries to grow itself into a legit sport you can't have ex-pro wrestlers who are in their mid 50's out there winning and holding titles. It's just not believable to someone like me who might consider the product until we see that. Grandpapa beating up on the young kids only happens in Rocky movies, "pro" wrasslin', and now...MMA. See a recurring theme, here?

If UFC and MMA want's to become legit it has to start by getting rid of the ex-wrestlers for starters. Bad image. But a 54 year old ex-wrestler holding a title? Over the top.

Goodbye to Dan Severn.

READ THE TITLE BRILLIANT!

Top 3 legends who need to retire in order in the UFC?

DAN SEVERN IS NOT CURRENTLY ON THE UFC ROSTER.

GET YOUR GAME UP COWBOY!

The UFC roster? LMAO.

Read the TITLE BRILLIANT!

Severn is a definite legend in UFC, being a hall of famer and all. He's also not retired. He last fought in May.

Do you get it, yet, peachy? He's a legend of the UFC and he's NOT retired. Where he does or doesn't sit on some list is meaningless. MMA is worse than boxing with it's vagueness and multiple associations. It's closer to pro wrasslin' in that regard. This is worrisome for a skeptic such as myself. Is this "sport" legit? or is it just this centuries WWF? Unless and until there is full disclosure the question will remain in my mind and the minds of most potential fans. So far it seems to be drawing mostly a crossover of wrasslin' fans.

In any event, for the good of furthering MMA without making a mockery out of it before it gets a real foothold in the mainstream this man needs to retire. Since he HASN'T retired, he's a completely legit choice by the title of this TD.

Do i get it? Yes, i do. Severn is NOT in the UFC.

Lets go over the title again since your acting like a little kid.

Top 3 legends who need to retire in order in the UFC?

Do you see IN the ufc ccc? Yeah, in means running in the UFC. NO rule changes but i think people got the title bc your losing 5-1.

If i would have said the whole mma community, then yes, you would've been right.

GOOD TRY

UFC is just an organization within MMA, it's not it's own sport or a different sport from other MMA organizations. Since he is still actively fighting, he did NOT retire from MMA, hence he hasn't "retired" from any events within the MMA community. Simply choosing not to participate in UFC events for a few years doesn't make him "retired" from UFC. If UFC promoters found marketing value in having a 54 year old HOFer participate in an event, you can bet your house they'll make him an offer he can't refuse to participate.

If a boxer chooses only to participate in WBO sanctioned events for several years does that make him "retired" from the IBF? Of course not. If Greg Norman only plays on the Australian tour for several years, does that make him "retired" from the PGA? Don't be silly.

Severn is not retired from MMA, hence he can't be "retired" from organizations or events within the sport. Simply being inactive or not on a current "roster" does not qualify as retirement.

Unless and until he stops fighting within MMA entirely he's not retired. And being one of but 5 members of the UFC Hall of Fame certainly qualifies him as a "legend".

O GOD, it's CCC!

CCC, finally gets a loss to peach unless some BS happens

"CCC, finally gets a loss to peach unless some BS happens"

Peachy, peachy, peachy. You STILL haven't figured out that it's about ARGUMENT, not whether you are "right" or "wrong"...there is no right or wrong in a debate. If there was, it wouldn't BE a debate, it would be a statement of fact.

September 7, 2008  05:39 AM ET

wow ccc pretty much owned this td, IMO

September 7, 2008  09:01 AM ET

Vote to the left.

Dan Severn hasn't fought in the UFC for ages, isn't currently in the UFC.

The title states: "in the UFC", it doesn't say "in MMA"

Also, Severn has been winning some fights simply because he's been fighting absolute nobodies.

I agree with the Matt Hughes and Chuck Lidell picks. Not too sure about Ace Franklin, though.

If I were Rich I would go away from the UFC and try my luck in Japan (DREAM). At 33 he still has a couple of years in him.

So far CCC is stomping you peachy. You basically wasted your second argument saying that CCC is dumb or something, and he has made 2 solid arguments. You better make a massive last argument or this one is going to CCC.

Go ahead and vote for somebody that's TOTALLY off if you want to.

That's like me voting for an nfl td with a CFL player.

September 7, 2008  06:12 PM ET

No vote. Peachy got sucked into CCC's game and never really argued his picks, and CCC picked a non-UFC fighter and, well, he pretty much trashed a legitimate sport that cannot be faked.

September 8, 2008  12:25 AM ET

"and, well, he pretty much trashed a legitimate sport that cannot be faked."

I did no such thing. I simply, accurately, pointed out that to a prospective fan seeing an ex-wrassler fighting successfully in MMA at age 54 does not project an image of credibility. I'm not saying it IS fake, I'm saying that to someone on the outside looking it that's definitely a red flag.

As far as "cannot be faked" that's just silly. ANY sport can be thrown and, particularly sports that involve fighting, have been for centuries.

"That's like me voting for an nfl td with a CFL player."

Not it's not. It's not even close to that.

He said 3 fighters, u listed one?

"He said 3 fighters, u listed one?"

I was only making 1 change to his list...and it didn't matter which one.
