I know everyone is picking USC for this game, and I know everyone thinks that OSU is the worst team in the world. I've been picking this game for a while, and I'm gonna stick to my guns b/c OSU will beat USC for these reasons:

I know Mark Sanchez looked good against Virginia's secondary and pass rush, but Ohio State's defense ain't no piddly middle-of-the-pack-in-the-fricking-ACC defense. USC's average WR's will get shut down by the best secondary in the country, and that young Trojan O-line will have a much tougher time pass and run blocking against a veteran OSU front 7.

Boeckman and Pryor will provide that unstoppable 1-2 punch with Beanie waiting to bust out at any time. Hartline, Small, and Robiskie are proven receivers unlike USC's.

Don't even talk about Ohio, either. I would say that OSU was looking ahead to the Trojans just a little bit, if not a lot.

Ohio State's defense ain't no piddly middle-of-the-pack-in-the-fricking-ACC defense

Virginia Cavaliers were a top 20 team last year- where was Ohio ranked?

True, its the best of a VERY top heavy conference- I guess Ohio is a little better than 70% of the Big 10???

Lets break this out a little bit- Coaching

Tressell hasn;t done anything since Mo Clarett was a free man.
USC is the Premier program in the NATION- only the SEC can touch them year in and year out.

You keep bringing up the yutes of USC - these are ALL young men! but with a program like USC (and admittedly USC) they get that seemingly 4 months off before the Bowl Game

and Ohio State normally only plays 2 games a year that matter- Michigan and then lose the Bowl game- USC does not

OSU didn;t play a ranked team until week 6 -and the HIGHEST ranked team they played until they got beat by LSU was 19th
USC played #14 Nebraska- ON THE ROAD week 2 -and two other top 6 teams that year

USC is USED to being challenged early

Last year, last year, last year. Virginia, this year, has a new QB under a new center with new guards on either side. The Cavs also had 3 new guys in their secondary w/ an entire D-line being replaced. The OSU D is an entirely new beast to face with much more experience and talent. Mark Sanchez won't know what to do with himself on 9/13.

The Big 10 being down does not matter in week 3; it only matters in the postseason. If anything, this is THE game for Ohio State b/c their conference isn't much to be worried about.

Sure college students are young men; let's not argue semantics. The point being: Ohio State's young men are much more experienced. No denying that.

How'd that #14 ranked Nebraska team turn out? Oh yeah, they went 5-7 and got a new coach. Don't forget that OSU played Texas on week 2 in '05 and '06.

Home field advantage for USC didn't seem to matter too much to mighty Stanford also.

True Last year was last year- in the NCAA teams ALWAYS go from last to First

Thats why the Orange bowl is going to be Duke vs Northwestern right?

The Big 10 being down does not matter in week 3; it only matters in the postseason.

So does that mean they Never Matter?

Pete Carroll is 11-3 vs top 5 teams

How is Tressell?

2-3 in JUST the last 3 years!

But again we return to this year- USC went to the ACC, a BCS conference and CRUSHED them- Ohio brought in a sacrificial lamb- just like Notre Dame- and BARELY Won

I mean Ohio did go 6-6 in the MAC last year - but that was last year, wasn;t it?

How did you like having to make a 4th quarter comeback on a team AT HOME?? With your world beater QB ON THE BENCH??

Last year Virginia had a veteran QB, their entire O-line, and a 1st rounder by the name of Chris Long w/ 9 other defensive starters returning. Virginia was a contender last year, but they're not gonna be this year, so only so much credit should be given to USC for beating a bad Cav team.

Ohio State was looking ahead to USC. That 4th quarter comeback lasted one minute. A win is a win.

Look, this game will be a defensive battle b/c both teams have great defenses, so whoever is able to move the ball better to eek out points will win. Let's look at the offensive match-ups.
O-line: OSU (USC has 4 new O-linemen plus a new TE, OSU is only replacing the LT)
QB: OSU (veteran QB w/ a change of pace QB)
RB: OSU (Heisman contender is rested)
WR: OSU (USC's Wr's are shaky at best, and OSU has 3 battle-tested WR's)
USC is beat on all fronts offensively.

Ohio State has more experience, and that'll make all the difference.

Ohio State was looking ahead to USC. That 4th quarter comeback lasted one minute. A win is a win.

So what does it say about your COACH if a MAC team leads his team up and down the feild.

Yes Stanford beat USC last year- but USC also played the second toughest schedule in the country- and did ok?

USC is STILL going to be the faster team
USC is STILL going to be the deeper team- and OSU is banged up already

and USC is going to win- and gain the experience of beating a top Big 10 team

Thankfully they don;t play a lot of MAC teams

If you can figure out how with this format...

September 10, 2008  10:41 PM ET

I'll wait, but OSU will be destroyed this weekend.

So far -------------> all the way.

Watch USC's defense come Saturday. It's not gonna be pretty for the Beanie Boys.

C'mon guys, Vegas has us as 11-point favorites. Trust me, those who set the lines aren't doing it because OSU had a tough time playing Ohio.

I'm sure only the reality will convince you, but it's gonna be a great day in L.A. With crimson-and-gold bunting.

September 10, 2008  11:54 PM ET

Both teams have stacked defenses. This'll be a game of whoever's offense can squeak out the most points.

I'd go with OSU b/c they have a great O-line, veteran QB, change of pace QB, 3 solid Wr's, and a Heisman contender RB.

I'm in the minority, so there's no trying to convince people unless you're in favor of OSU, so only reality will convince you: the majority believer.

OSU will win this game by at least 10 points top to bottom OSU is just a better team then USC and about the game last week if i remeber right last year when a top team had a bad week they came back the next week and dominated in there games eg. West Virginia lost to pitt and then killed The Sonners, Mizzu lost in the big 12 champship and came back a made arkansas look like 5 year olds. b. wells will get by maualuga a lot easyer then any of the USC backs will do against Laurinaitis. OSU will keep on rolling to the BCS and win this time.

September 11, 2008  12:22 AM ET

USC will win, mainly because of the fact that the entire OSU offense revolves around a gimpy Chris Wells.

September 11, 2008  12:45 AM ET

USC will win big, but who would not love to see the Buck eyes lose a nother BCS Title to a nother SEC team for the third year in a row. Go Gators.

September 11, 2008  12:54 AM ET

I smell ballot-stuffing.

September 11, 2008  01:08 AM ET

I believe it will be a tight game, but I think as much as OSU is getting underrated for its performance vs Ohio, USC got overrated for beating a young and undermanned Virginia. These are both solid teams with great coaches. Its a little funny though how everyone is acting like OSU is the first team to have such a game before a big one. But its all very simple...if OSU's veteran O and D lines do their job OSU will win, if they don't expect USC to cover.

September 11, 2008  01:12 AM ET

USC by 14.

September 11, 2008  01:20 AM ET

how the hell did the guy on the left get 7 votes in an hour?? something seems awfully fishy about that.....

September 11, 2008  01:21 AM ET

and also, i must say that USC will destroy OSU on saturday. That defense is gonna hurt tyrelle pryor... i predict he finishes this game with an injury that will keep him out for at least 2-3 weeks if maulauga gets a hold of him

September 11, 2008  01:57 AM ET

USC will win the game because of coaching. Remember Pete Carroll is a super bowl winning defensive coordinator. He has the speed to negate OSU spread office and Wells is still injured,he is not 100% healthy. The key stat will be how OSU qb handles USC pressure with little to no running game. The one thing that OSU has had major problems with is fast teams and USC is one of the fastest teams in the country. USC has team speed like SEC schools and we all know how OSU has done against that conference lately. If USC can protect Sanchez and if their wide outs have a good game,OSU will lose a close game....USC 24 OSU 20

"Tressell hasn;t done anything since Mo Clarett was a free man.
