Nick Collins

I don't lnow if you meant Kerry Collins or what, but either way I am going with Chad Pennington. Pennington just a year ago was benched for what seemed like the 5th straight season, due to his lack of arm strength or whatever, and in the off-season was dumped for absolutely nothing in return, by the Jets. What did he do to respond?? Signs with the 1-win Dolphins in the off-season and wins the starters job over 2nd rd pick, John Beck. Beck didn't get injured, or go cuckoo for Pennington to get the job, he won it. And has responded by leading the Dolphins to a respectable 6-4 record, and he is also in the top 7 in QB Rating, Completion %, Int. %, and passing yards. This from a scrap heap player that was benched and dumped by the Jets. Not bad, and he is my non- Kurt Warner CBPOY.

No, Packers safety NICK COLLINS, not kerry

2006: 82 tackles, 3 int, 2 FF in 16 games
2007: 40 tackles, 0 int, 0 FF in 13 games

This season (10 games): 46 tackles, 5 ints, 1 FF, and 3 defensive touchdowns.

In only his 4th year in the league he has comeback from a terrible season last year to lead the league in interceptions and has returned 3 all the way back to the endzone. He has been a very big part of the Packers defense, and has become a big playmaker in the league.

Pennington
2006: 17 tds 16 ints, 64.5 %, 82.6 rating
2007: 10 tds 9 ints, 68.8%, 86.1 rating

This season 8 tds 5 ints, 67%, 92.8 rating, a little better

I love Chad, but I am not giving him all of the credit for the Miami's success this year. He is a game manager, but the keys to that offense belong to Ronnie Brown and the O-line, they deserve more credit. Honestly, his teammate Joey Porter is a better choice than Chad because that defense is why they are in most games this year.

When you look at the two, Collins is having a pro bowl season and Pennington is doing above average. The comeback player of the year not named Kurt Warner is Nick Collins.

Coming back from a terrible season is warrants CBPOY cosideration? He is an above average player this season but he isn't a former pro bowler, like Pennington. He never led his defense like Pennington led his offense in 2002, and 2004. He wasn't benched, or dumped...he just didn't have good numbers last season, hardly the material to put him in the conversation of CBPOY. Pennington on the other hand was left for dead. The only reason the Dolphind were even interested was b/c of Parcells relationship with his former QB. Not a single other team was going to even offer him the chance to compete for the starting spot, yet he went into Miami with a chip on his shoulder and won that spot, and has been one of the 3 best QB's in the AFC. He has helped Miami completely turn it around this season while Collins has done what?? Everyone thought you meant KERRY for crying out loud, that is how out there this pick is. He is a young safety, only in his 3rd season starting, hardly a long enough career to "comeback" from a bad one. If he was coming back from a terrible injury is one thing but just rebounding from a sub-par season is not enough. He isn't even in my top 10.

Greg Ellis, Drew Brees, Jon Kitna, Tommy Maddox 4 out of the last 7, all not pro bowlers before winning the award, so your basis that you have to be a pro bowler before being named CBPOTY is wrong.

Also, according to the NFL you don't have to be injured in order to recieve the award, you could have "an otherwise bad statistical year."

Collins is a 4 year starter. His rookie year, 2005: 84 tackles, 1 int, 2 FF. In future TD's please try to do actual research.

Pennington a top 3 AFC qb? Phillip Rivers, Jay Cutler, Matt Cassel, Peyton Manning, Big Ben, Matt Schaub, Kerry Collins, Tyler Thigpen, and Derek Anderson have thrown more td passes than him. He manages the game, he doesnt win them. Case in point, last week they beat Oakland 15-17, wow impressive! He only threw 22 times for no TD's. Miami wins because of their running game and defense, not Pennington. Oh and good job being better than John Beck, thats a real accomplishment.

And my apologies for you not knowing who the NFL int leader is. I guess hes not in your top 10 because you don't know 10 players who qualify for the award.

I'll let the voters decide on your cheating issue, im taking the high road

First off, I am done dealing with that moron who is babling about cheating it is ridiculous, and has been reported.

Moving on, what exactly did Collins "come back" from, is my biggest question? This is usually given to guys that were once good to very good, dropped off for a major amount of time, and out of nowhere play very well again, and/or they suffer a serious injury or illness and defy the odds by playing productive football. Collins' numbers were bad last season..big whoop his team won 13 games and went to the NFC Championship game. His play obviously didn't matter too much last season, and I just don't get what he has come back from. Pennington was benched and released for crying out loud! He was JOBLESS 5 months ago. Collins never lost his spot as the starter, he just didn't put up great numbers last season. Here are other players that have , IMO, done the same thing that Collins has done:

J. Porter- 8.5 sks last year, 13.5 already this year
C. Hope- 11 games, 49tkl,2 INT/ 55tkl, 4 int this year
D. Williams 715 rushing yrd/800 this year

The big part is Pennington's situation. Collins wasn't cut, hurt or sick, or even benched. Which is why he ain't CBPOY.

What the hell does Phil Collins have to do with anything?

November 19, 2008  05:14 PM ET

Jay Cutler. He had undiagnosed and untreated diabetes last year. It's a wonder he could play at all in that condition.

November 19, 2008  05:22 PM ET

I definitely agree with Nick Collins. He has been an outstanding player for the Packers. I love how when the packers start to roll with something, it keeps happening. A lot of teams don't capitalize when they can do something. But every Packer player and the coaches can. The packers have capitalized in their Pass D, and as for their run Offense, I would bet anybody that the packers will at LEAST have 150 yards this following week. They started something last week with their running attack and it will not stop until the Packs say it stops.

I would say 200 or more yards, but going against the Saints you sorta have to pass to keep up with their yardage.

Damn.. I hated that song. And Phil needs to learn to pay it for it INSTEAD of marrying it. Those divorces are killing him.
