Darren McFadden should be the favorite to win the Heisman next year.

Darren McFadden is the front runner for the Heisman next year. He was last year's heisman runner up, only behind Troy Smith. He got 1,647 rushing yards averaging 5.8 yards a carry and 14 TDs last season. Even against LSU's amazing defense he managed to get 182 rushing yards. He also got 149 recieving yards and a recieving TD. He is definetly the top runner (top player) in college football right now, and is definetly the favorite to win the Heisman for this upcoming season.

Darren McFadden should be the favorite to win the Heisman but he is not. The Heisman is controlled strictly by media hype. If Peyton couldnt win it over a cornerback no SEC player will win it unless they come out of Florida ( who is also media loved). Its not about who it should be but about who it can be (not McFadden sadly), no there are only 2 candidates: Booty: USC, Hart: Michigan. Both of these teams should end up undefeated through their regular seasons and 1 of these 2 will win it.

OK, well, the title of the throwdown was Darren McFadden SHOULD be the front runner to win the heisman next year. That doesn't neccesarily mean that he is. I know that John David Booty, Mike Hart, and P.J. Hill from Wisconsin are all in the mix, too, but Darren McFadden has a lot better numbers than all of the others. He may not be from the most media-friendly school, but that doesn't mean he won't be a contender, and I think right now, in a lot of people's eyes, he is definetly the most talented player, and will have the best season. Also, if the media controls the heisman, then why was he the runner-up last year?

From your first post:::: Darren McFadden is the front runner for the Heisman next year.

He has no chance at winning. Booty will have 300+ yrds with 3+ tds per game on THE MEDIA DARLING TEAM. I wasnt going to take the TD based on the Title but when I read your first statement I thought no he is not the front runner, Booty has most likely already won it. McFadden will have impressive #'s for an SEC back but nothing quite as flashy as what Booty will do throught out their **** 10 schedule.

Okay, I will try to make may point again. IF THE MEDIA CONTROLS THE HEISMAN, THAN WHY WAS MCFADDEN THE RUNNER-UP LAST YEAR! That felt good. Darren McFadden may be on a rather obscure school, Arkansas, but they are in the SEC, and will get plenty of exposure. I think you're focusing too much on the media and not enough on the talent level of players. If Darren McFadden could run for 182 yards against LSU's defense as a junior, than he should definetly be the favorite to win it next year. I also think that's a bit of a stretch, saying that John David Booty will have 300+ yards and 3+ touchdowns EVERY GAME. I think Darren McFadden IS the favorite heisman contender for the upcoming season.

You are not an SEC person. Trust me there is no extra ESPN HYPE that comes along with loosing 4 games in the SEC. 2nd place is the first loser. He being the best player in the country last yr finished 2nd to the HYPED PLAYER on the HYPED TEAM. He this yr being the best player in the country will finish behind the HYPED PLAYER on the HYPED TEAM. I see I am losing the voting now but can anyone out there honestly say they believe and Arkansas player from a minimal 3 loss team is going to win it?

I also think McFadden is the front runner, but nobody mentioned guys like Steve Slaton of WVU or Brian Brohm from Louisville yet. I'll save my vote for a few more arguments.

Didnt we just do that TD???

July 10, 2007  03:11 PM ET

I just want to clarify that I also think he is the top player in college football. I am saying he has no chance at the heisman b/c he is on a minimal 3 loss team who is not a media darling. Booty will have 300+ yrds with 3+ tds per game on THE MEDIA DARLING TEAM.

What a cop out td, SHOULD BE, come on man, make a statement like...I dont know...WILL BE.

McFadden was second last year in voting. Arkansas may not be a media darling, but they're on everybody's radar now after last season and they'll get plenty of exposure playing in the SEC. I think you're playing too much into the media picking favorite teams, and less about players' talent.

You don't need to be a jerk about it, it's a completely normal throwdown.

Not trying to be, just telling you my opinion.

I apologize, I am at work and I took it out on you, keep on keeping on.

Responding to his last argument, Troy Smith was a better player than Darren McFadden was last year, but this year will be a different story.

July 10, 2007  03:50 PM ET

Troy Smith had good numbers last yr. If it werent for all the Div II d's he played against his season would have looked like the FL game. All that I am saying is that there is no possible way a player from a 3 loss SEC school will win the Heisman while USC and Mi sit undefeated. AINT NO GOD DANG WAY.

July 10, 2007  04:02 PM ET

Arkansas will win more than 3 games.

July 10, 2007  04:03 PM ET

July 10, 2007  04:13 PM ET

2005 Reggie Bush Southern California RB

2000 Chris Weinke Florida State QB

Arkansas won't be good enough to have a Heisman winner (I feel like a broken record). They're not going to recapture the magic (i.e. luck) from last year. That, and McFadden will split time with Felix Jones.

Booty, on the other hand, is the best skill position player on what is the best team in the country going into the season. With their schedule, they won't lose more than 1 or 2, which keeps them near the top and Booty in the Heisman hunt. The only thing I can see working against him is that people might get a little tired of USC's QB walking away with the hardware every year.

I still think Brennan should be the front runner (and should've won last year).
