LaDainian Tomlinson is the best player in the NFL. He has rushed for 1,000 yards or more in each of his seasons, even when the team had no other weapon and the defense would key on him. No other player has taken over games like LaDainian Tomlinson has done since he has entered the league. It only took L.T. 6 years to get to 100 rushing TD's (2001-2006). L.T. has started 16 of 16 games each year except for 2004 were he started in 15 of 15. L.T. had no support for his first 4 years but still was one of the most productive backs in the league. L.T. has rushed for 9176 yards and 100 tds with a 4.5 ypc. He has caught 398 rec. for 2900 yards and 11 TDs. He is 7-10 for 126 yards and 6 TDs with a 152.1 rating as a quarterback. He has carried the Chargers team by being their leading rusher and also one of their leading receivers. He is one of the classiest guys in the league and has worked to make the team better and not just leave for a better team. L.T. has made the Chargers one the best teams in the NFL. He broke the TD record last year with 31 TDS and 186 points. L.T. even led the team in the playoffs by playing well in the clutch with his 2 TDs and 123 yards. Best player, period.

Good argument.....My money is on Peyton Manning.

Peyton Manning has been in the NFL for 9 years, and has NEVER missed a start. He holds the record for most consecutive games played to begin a career.

Peyton has always had NO SUPPORTING cast when it comes to Defense. Was drafted First overall by the Colts who were a dismal 3-13 the year the got the FIRST ROUND PICK, and 3-13 the next year. Yet, Peyton always had 3700+yds and 20+ TD.He set five different NFL rookie records, including most touchdown passes in a season and was named to the NFL All-Rookie First Team.

Manning holds a number of individual career records:

* Seasons with 4,000+ yards: 7, 1999???2004, 2006[50]
* Consecutive seasons with 4,000+ yards: 6, from 1999???2004
* Consecutive seasons with 25+ TD passes: 9, from 1998-2006 (current)
* Games with perfect passer rating: 4 (includes 1 playoff game; most perfect games of any QB since passer rating was created by the NFL in 1973)
* Manning has started his every NFL game, (currently 144 games), the longest career-opening streak for a QB. He is still behind Brett Favre's consecutive-starts streak record.

Yes Tom Brady and Peyton Manning have won the big game, but why did they win the big game? Look at their supporting cast....Manning has Wayne and Harrison to throw to, and their defense and running game has carried the Colts through the playoffs. His passer rating in the playoffs last year was dismal. Peyton has always had weapons around him and that has helped him, and has been in a much different situation than L.T.The reason why L.T. is the best player in the league is because he makes everyone on his offense look better, and he also doesnt just think of himself, he gives credit to his team.

Peyton Manning is the best student of the game out there. This guy studies all day long. There is no arguing this fact.

Peyton Manning has had more pressure on his shoulders during his entire NFL career then L.T.

I am not taking anything away from LT, he is great, and may be the greatest RB
when all is said and done, but Peyton is closer to being the GREATEST QB then L.T. is to being the GREATEST RB.

So, your telling me that L.T's blockers aren't any good? What about Lorenzo Neal? What about Marcus Mcniell? What about Antonio Gates? What about his Defense?NIck Hardwick? His team had more Pro Bowlers then any team, and you say he has no supporting cast?

Peyton does give credit to his team, but he doesn't beat around the bush either. If there is a problem, he addresses it, that is a sign of a leader.

Peyton broke a record last year in the playoffs for most completions in a single post-season, and he won the SB MVP, quit looking at the QB rating, and realize the TRUTH, Peyton Manning is the BEST player in the NFL.

Ladainian Tomlinson has been more consistently dominant in recent years at the running back position than Peyton Manning has been at quarterback, meaning adding all his games together, he has been a bigger factor toward his teams success, and a much better player than Manning. I mean, he got an NFL record 80 touchdowns in his first five years. Peyton wasn't able to do that at a position where it is easier to get touchdowns, and not many players even get that many touchdowns in their entire careers. He has over 100 now. Ladainian Tomlinson is the model of a team player, and has been constantly improving over his entire NFL career, which I don't think Peyton Manning has. Ladainian Tomlinson will become one of the greatest players of all time, and I think right now that Ladainian Tomlinson has greater talent, explosiveness, charisma, and leadership than Peyton Manning. Don't get me wrong, Peyton has done a lot for this league, and he is a close second, but I think, overall, Ladainian Tomlinson is the most valuable player in the NFL right now.

I'd say 1 manning 2 LT
gotta see what lana says before i vote

July 12, 2007  07:43 PM ET

you read my mind Prof!

July 12, 2007  07:51 PM ET

I can look up his stats myself, Lana. Why is he better than Tomlinson?

Please don't make this into a statbook argument. Those are so boring. Can you guys agree to conceed that Tomlinson broke the single season record for touchdowns last year, and Manning has the single-season passing TD record? We know all that.

July 12, 2007  07:55 PM ET

LT has caught 100 passes in a single season before and he was still posting amazing numbers while SD was abysmal.

Peyton struggled when the colts weren't good yet and they needed to place a lot more around Peyton before he started putting up gonzo numbers.

I think it's LTD or El TD....that's my nickname. It works like a half dozen ways.

July 12, 2007  07:55 PM ET

We're not talking who's more important to their teams but the best overall talented player and that is LT. I really didn't see Manning do anything special in the playoffs last year, in fact his passer rating was worse than you know who. The SB was handed to him on a silver platter cause the Pats blew it and the Bears basically said OK we're going to let you pass underneath and we won't make any adjustments whatsoever and not make tackles.

July 12, 2007  08:00 PM ET

I don't know, that's a close one. I might have to say Manning by a very slim margin.

July 12, 2007  08:00 PM ET

Why is Manning the only QB who's ever judged on one or two games? Carson Palmer gets every exception available. Brady gets any bad game taken off the record. Peyton wins a Super Bowl, and he's still not good ecause the game plan was to throw short to take advantage of the rain and an over-aggressive flat-zone defense from the Bears.

July 12, 2007  08:01 PM ET

Either way they are both 1. and 2.

July 12, 2007  08:02 PM ET

PlayAngryFan, did you know he broke a record in the playoffs last year?

He now owns the record for most completions by a QB in a SINGLE post season.

Yah, he sucked last year.

Everyone looks at LT and his stats and say his team was horrible, Manning is NEVER STRUGGLING when you look at his stats, only his TEAM struggles....not him nor his stats.

July 12, 2007  08:05 PM ET

To say LT doesn't have a good supporting cast is pure lunacy. How many pro bowlers from SD last year? LT gets more carries because he has a dominating D, and the Chargers are winning early in the game. You can't stack the box with 8 because Gates stretches the field. He has the best pure FB blocker in the backfield with him and one of the best run blocking lines in the league. can't use supporting cast in favor of either guy.... BOTH have great players around them...

Lana Throwsdown, we follow and stay on the topic for a few minutes. By the time she's destroyed her opponent, we're usually chatting about something else. Plus, we follow Coletrain, anyway.

IRON CURTAIN!

July 12, 2007  08:09 PM ET

Whitewolf, just stop....

July 12, 2007  08:09 PM ET

no lana is a very intelligent, sports savy woman... she makes good arguments... yes some people may follow her because she is attractive- BUT i find it much more interesting that she slaughters guys in her arguments...

July 12, 2007  08:10 PM ET

Coletrain OWNS me! He always comes to check up on me.

Pasta and MEATBALLS!

July 12, 2007  08:10 PM ET

Hey WhiteWolf, hows that throwdown about me going?

July 12, 2007  08:14 PM ET

That is way funny if you don't know that Lana didn't accept the TD. You have "Denis" on the other side...HA!

July 12, 2007  08:16 PM ET

why would you vote on this you cant determine that. because many great players play a different position

July 12, 2007  08:16 PM ET

Sorry buddy and im a huge Chargers fan but to say LaDainian had no supporting cast last year is ridiculous. Last year the team had the most pro bowl players on it. Prolly the most talented team last year. Previously in his career yes he had little help but dont argue supporting cast please.

July 12, 2007  08:17 PM ET

"He is one of the classiest guys in the league and has worked to make the team better and not just leave for a better team. "

Don't you remember him dissing on the great Bill Belicheck and the pats organization?

A victorious man can always be nice, a man facing shame who can still be nice? now that's classy.

July 12, 2007  08:19 PM ET

I disagree with that Mike. Yes the chargers d led in sacks, but they were far from dominating. I think they were the 15th or 16th ranked defense last year. Also, there were plenty of games where LT singhandedly brought his team back from 14-21 points and scored 2-3 TD's to give his team a win. So the argument about them always running because they are ahead doesn't quite work here mike.
