sorry for the awkward sounding statement, 3 Pitchers, 2 bench players, and if you want to do a closer go ahead, please no college or high school players

C- Joe Mauer, great play caller, only 23, overall enormous talent
1B- Prince Fielder- massive power, with better contact than his dad, again only 23
2b- Ian Kinsler, 25, showed flashes of greatness when healthy, excellent power for a 2B
3B- Alex Gordon, got off to a rough start, but has undeniable talent and should be an all-star for years to come
SS- Only 24, and already the most exciting player in baseball, no faults in his game
OF- Chris Young- 5 tool player who has power to all fields, could steal 50 bases in the future
OF- Hunter Pence- Got off to a monstrous start, how could you not take him the way he's playing?
OF- Grady Sizemore- Not a great start, but a great player that is another 5 tool player, and only 24
SP- Tim Lincecum, Mr. Franchise, what else can you say
SP- Homer Bailey, Should get called up in Sept. for Reds, has dirty stuff, great poise
SP- Matt Cain, it was between him and Phil Hughes, but Cain has proven more to me so far
Bench
Ryan Braun- Would start if Gordon wasnt there
Hanley Ramirez
Russell Martin

C-Russel Martin-great game caller and batter
1B-Prince Fielder-much better than his dad
2B-Brandon Phillips-.283 BA, 19 HRs, 55 RBIs
3B-Ryan Braun-.349 Ba, 13 HRs, 36 RBIs, 8 SBs in 43 games!
SS-Jose Reyes-No brainer!
OF-Grady Sizemore-Great 5 tool player
OF-Reggie Willits-.316 BA, 18 SBs
OF-Hunter Pence-Rookie phenom
SP-TIm Lincecum-Potential is endless
SP-Phil Hughes-Flame thrower who had a no-hitter going in the game he got injured
SP-Fransisco Liriano-I remain optimistic about his Tommy John surgery
Bench-Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, Hanley Ramirez

ok, lets compare.
Cant fault ya for martin, but i just think that mauer overall is the better catcher
Phillips- also good, but already 26, in 8-10 years, he'll have slowed down, and his steals will go down
Braun- Great Choice, but Gordon is going to be great, Braun would be my DH
Willits, i just dont think he can help the team in as many ways as chris B. Young will in the future
Hughes, cant fault you there
Liriano, besides the tommy john, he also has had a torn rotator cuff, see comments b-low

catch this stat, this may change your mind about martin and mauer: the dodgers are 112-69 when russel martin is starting catcher and 6-21 when he isn't, that shows you how good of a game caller he is
phillips is a power hitter not just stolen base guy so he should still make a big impact in his mid 30s, kinsler is too inconsistent
gordon is batting .231, young is batting .235
liriano is iffy but has the biggest upside of any pitcher in baseball, i'll take the risk

I said 8-10 years from now, not now, so AVG is irrelevant. Mauer frequently receives rave reviews from his pitchers on his play calling, and is touted as the best catcher to come to baseball in the last 25 years. Kinsler was not inconsistent, he was batting .280 and 2nd in the AL in homeruns, then he got injured. Instead of immediately going to the DL, he continued playing, and his stats suffered, he is still an amazing talent, you also dont give me the record for the twins when mauer starts c b-lo

i dont know it
but anyways i really dont know about homer, it's not a good name for a pitcher

who's your SS? Reyes?

July 15, 2007  07:43 PM ET

very nice topic. I would do one of these. Alot of ways you could go.

July 15, 2007  07:47 PM ET

yeah, reyes, sorry bout that

July 15, 2007  07:56 PM ET

yeah i like it too, you have to think beyond A-Rod and Bonds, and i'm already starting to 2nd guess myself on some categories, lol

July 15, 2007  08:14 PM ET

Liriano will be the best pitcher in baseball in 3 years or so.

July 15, 2007  08:14 PM ET

heres the end.... liriano's arm can only take too much, and two major surgeries seems like too much to me, hope he proves me wrong
Morneau- also already 26, with only 1 good year under his belt, albeit an MVP year

July 15, 2007  08:16 PM ET

No David Wright? Braun's been good this season, but at least Wright's already gotten his major league legs, and has put some solid numbers up already.

July 15, 2007  08:17 PM ET

i know, wright's good, but i just think the other 2 3B's on my team have unlimited upside

July 15, 2007  08:19 PM ET

Either Wright or Cabrera should've been 3B.

July 15, 2007  08:19 PM ET

Yovani Gallardo should be considered for one of the pitching spots.

July 15, 2007  08:28 PM ET

wow for SP im surprised neither of you put Verlander or Bonderman from the tigers.

July 15, 2007  08:28 PM ET

1st guy has 2 Giants so he gets the vote

July 15, 2007  08:29 PM ET

how about Utley

July 15, 2007  08:32 PM ET

utley is too old

July 15, 2007  08:35 PM ET

continued..... so that stat is probably not too shabby

July 15, 2007  08:37 PM ET

I wonder what the results would have been if this throwdown was set 8-10 years ago.

July 15, 2007  08:51 PM ET

Play-caller? Mauer ain't a QB...

July 15, 2007  08:51 PM ET

he isnt, i meant pitch caller which he is

July 15, 2007  09:30 PM ET

Um, Homer Bailey has already been up once.

July 15, 2007  09:31 PM ET

And no Josh Hamilton?
