Yankees will be in the playoffs. They will even win their divison!

Dont get me wrong, I would love to see the Yankees in the postseason, but its very unrealistic that they will catch up on the Red Sox, much less make the playoffs. The Yankees needed to acquire help at the trading deadline, whereas Wilson Betemit doesnt suffice. The Yankees certainly have the offense, but their pitching is questionable at best. Clemens might have trouble holding up, as his record is 3-5, and Pettitte and Mussina cerntainly arent getting the job done. Their bullpen has been iffy at best, and losing their workhorse in Proctor hurts them more than it helps them.

Pettitte: 6-7 4.11 ERA
Mussina: 6-7 4.75 ERA

And what is the one constant for the Yankees since 1996? The Hammer of God shuts the door.
So, Can we just finally say it?
Robinson Cano is playing better than ANY Second Basemen in the league right now. You heard me. I said it. Uggla, Phillips, Roberts, NO ONE is playing better than Robby Right now. And another huge guy in the Yankee lineup right now is Melky Cabrera. Cabrera is being moved around the lineup every single day, and hitting wherever he is put. Look at Melky during the first three years of his career, and then look at Bernie Williams at the same period of his career. Eerie. I would love to put a print screen here of it so you can see it, but it???s rather cumbersome to put it all together.

Cano is hitting really well, but why arent you mentioning your pitching? Congrats, you went on a great run against teams like the D'rays and Royals, but your going to need good, solid pitching to win those 2-1, 3-2 run games. I honestly dont see the Yankees having t h at type of pitching. I always hear about Hughes and Jojo, and they are great prospects. Dont get me wrong. But they are rookies. You cant count on them to carry a Yankees team into the playoffs, especially with your media. Your media base would eat them alive.

not too worried bout experience...
It is a myth that good pitching ALWAYS beats good hitting teams. Yes, it does more often that not, but its not foolproof.
The 27 Yankees didnt need great pitching to win. Neither did the 39 Yankees. Same goes for the 61 Yankees. Same thing for the Big Red Machine in the mid-70s...an so on...
These teams didnt need stellar pitching to win. Their pitching only needed to be good enough, just like this Yankee team because their lineup is so explosive!

THE 2007 YANKEES CANT BE COMPARED TO THE 1927 YANKEES AT ALL. you should feel stupid for making that part of your arguement.

And only 4 out of the 12 pitcher you listed have an ERA sub 4, and two of them rarely pitch, including ONLY 1 starter. Congrats, your team went on a roll against teams a fourth the size of your payroll, wait till you actaully face good teams to evaluate your teams playoff predictions.

You got to have a stronger argument than that, tom.

They win their division? Wow. Gots to have pitching to win a division, and they don't.

August 1, 2007  10:25 AM ET

With the acquisition of Gagne the Sox basically clinched their division. The Yanks are still very alive in the Wild Card (3 games back) but their run of division titles is over. And I am as big of a diehard Yankee fan as you will find. I was amongst those claiming they would catch the Sox. Well, we will just have to beat them in the Playoffs.

August 1, 2007  10:33 AM ET

Even before they got Gagne, the Yanks still had no chance of winning the division.

STOP ACCEPTING!!!!....this one actually works. There was a glitch with the original one, but this one has no problems.

The problem for Tom is....there is no strong argument.

I was gonna vote for my fellow Yankee fan until he compared these Yankees to Murder's Row.

August 9, 2007  03:36 PM ET

Where they going? Nooowhere! Them guys goin' nooowhere!

August 9, 2007  03:48 PM ET

I hope they go nowhere. Yes I am still bitter about the Brokeback Brothers. I hope Roger and his wife Andy are very happy.

August 9, 2007  05:26 PM ET

They never should have been in Houston to begin with.

August 9, 2007  05:42 PM ET

I hope your glad with your great investments in deciding to pay pettitte 16 million dollars to have an 8-7 with a 4 ERA, and paying Clemens 28 million (pro rated) for a 4-5 record with a 4 ERA

WHy not all starz? Dont most athletes dream of getting mad cash for playing on the home team? And then I guess those same atheletes dream of shanking their loyal fans in pursuit of bigger cash somewhere else.
