More than any other AL team, the Yanks should NOT sign Barry Bonds.

NY should avoid Bonds at all costs. There are tons of reasons why, but here are the most obvious:

1) Clubhouse friction: Can you see guys like Jeter, Posada and Mariano having to put up with that ego and attitude? It just wouldnt work, plain and simple.

2) Position: The yanks don't need ANOTHER immobile DH. They already got Giambi for that. He can't play the field well, so why bother picking him up?

3) Age: The yanks dont need to get older. It is one thing to sign superstars that have several years left... it is another to sign a guy who is obviously so far gone.

A few things i would like to point out. First off, most teams would be worse off with the addidtion of Bonds, and Ill get to that later, but you have a few things wrong. Posada MIGHT not even be on the Yankees next year. He is a free agent who will demand a lot of money after the year he's had. Also Mariano Rivera was extremely upset that the Yankees front office refused to give him an extension in the off-season, so who knows what will happen to Mariano. With the young pitchers on the NYY, and Mariano having aged a bit, its not 100% sure that hell be a Yankee next year. Regardless, NYY could lose A-rod this offseason, who is a big part of their lineup. Barry Bonds has a great OBP and still gets pitched around. Bonds would not distract Jeter or the other team captains. Jeter has always been untouchable, so I dont see how the Bonds drama would leak to him.

I think because of his ego, it would be worse if he signed with a team that needs to get on the right track, like the D-Rays. Bonds only sets a bad example to young prospects like Delmon Young, Upton, Guzman, etc. Players on the Yankees wont follow in Bonds footsteps because they know better.

The yanks would be retarded to let Posada go. And even if they did... Bonds doesn't help them at catcher. If A-rod leaves... Bonds doesn't help them at third. The biggest problem with the Yanks this year was pitching. Does Bonds help them there? No. The guy brings nothing to the plate for the Yankees.

You think the D-Rays need him less than the Yanks? The Yankees are winners without Bonds. The D-Rays couldn't get any worse by taking him as a DH. I highly doubt Crawford, Upton, etc... are gonna start acting like Bonds if he goes there. The Rays got lots of speed and young players. A guy who can hit them all home (aside from TONS of pitching) is exactly what they need. Obviously the Rays wouldnt get Bonds either, but he would help them more than the Yankees. Aside from driving in runs, he might help the terrible attendance rate there.

The first part of my arguement was just stating that not everything in yours isnt completely true. Posada is still a free agent who wants to get paid. He MIGHT not be with the Yankees. Thats all Im saying. A-rod leaving leaves an offensive hole, which Bonds can help out.

Im saying Bonds would be a horrible addition for the D-Ray specifically because young prospects always look up to the vets. Also, bringing drama to the D-Rays clubhouse isnt something their used to. The D-Rays arent used to popularity or heavy media coverage. But, its just another walk in the park for the Yankees. Also, Bonds is a different style of play. Look at the D-Rays. over half of their team could go out and steal bases. The D-Rays are based on youth and speed. However, Bonds is old and fits the Yankee style of play better. Hes a homerun hitter who takes walks. Bonds also rarely strikes out. The Yankees have few young exiting players in the everyday lineup (NOT INCLUDING PITCHERS), therefore the Yankees dont base their offense on speed.

Im not saying the Yankees are going to go out there and sign Bonds, but they wouldnt be hurt the most by any means.

You say: "Im saying Bonds would be a horrible addition for the D-Ray specifically because young prospects always look up to the vets." UMMM HELLO. If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you? Just cause Bonds is an idiot, doesn't mean the Rays are gonna follow him. People aren't lemmings. They dont just follow each other blindly.

You say: "The D-Rays arent used to popularity or heavy media coverage." EXACTLY: Bonds would provide more coverage, more fans, more money. He would provide more wins, and obviously more revenue. Yanks already sell out... so his impact on the Rays would be more significant.

If the alltime homerun leader and future hall of famer offers you advice. You listen. Thats different than jumping off a **** bridge. If your a prospect trying to get a position on a team, you will go to a veteran if you have the chance. But, does the D-Rays office want to risk having ego and attitude problems around these young promising prospects? NO. The D-Rays have young players like Delmon Young an d BJ Upton that they cannot afford being around an ego like Bonds. Young already threw a bat at an ump in the minors, so if im the D-Rays, the last thing i want to do is bring in a player who can have an effect on other players in a negative way. The Yankees are used to players with big egos. They deal with it. And mainly, they can win with it. The Yankees offense could have holes next year. Damon, and 1b have been offensive problems as of late. And A-rod might leave. If Bonds is cheap, on a free agent year with not that much talent, Bonds wouldnt be as bad of an option as you think.

Basically, the Yankees have dealt with players with egos like this before, and they've proved they can win with it. However, the D-Rays are still looking for an identity in this league with a young

damn, i was gonna take this.

i'm a huge Yankee fan and i'm not a Barry Bonds fan at all and i don't think they should sign him. however, i can think of a few reasons why.

1. winning cures all clubhouse woes. Bonds has been on garbage teams recently. winning could, perhaps, shrink his ego.

2. yes he'd be another DH but he'd be a better option than Giambi, who they could subsequently move. also, since Bonds has NO leverage this off season, they could probalby get him for cheap.

3. yes, he's old but the way he bats fits in PERFECTLY with the Yankees. Bonds is a lefty power hitter (hello short porch in right) who is also incredibly patient--much like the rest of the Yankees lineup, save for a few players (i'm looking at you Robbie/Melky).

boston would be a perfect park for bonds, but they already have a dh

September 22, 2007  06:42 PM ET

please vote on arguements, not the stances.

September 22, 2007  06:42 PM ET

both Boston and NY would be perfect for him. short RF fences and what not. he'd fit in either lineup perfectly.

September 22, 2007  06:42 PM ET

I would throw my TV out the window if Bonds becomes a Yankee. Which he won't. The Yankees are trying to get younger and NY wouldn't be the best place for Bonds. I don't want him on a Yanks team that is getting younger and more exciting.

September 22, 2007  06:44 PM ET

Posada is coming back. No way in hell is he leaving. Yankees have no one else to catch and he is still very, very important to this team. Yanks will pay him.

September 22, 2007  06:46 PM ET

Im just saying that because hes a free agents, theres a POSSIBILITY that he wont be there next year

September 22, 2007  06:46 PM ET

i don't want him on the team, either, but there's a very good argument for him being on the team due to his batting style.

awc gets the vote for a better argument.

September 22, 2007  06:46 PM ET

yea i'd say it's about 95% that Posada's coming back.

September 22, 2007  06:47 PM ET

I'm holding my vote for now...

September 22, 2007  06:48 PM ET

so's your face.

September 22, 2007  06:49 PM ET

The Yanks will deffinately fight for Posada, but theres an opening on the Mets, and im sure these two clubs will duke it out over Posada. I do think Posada will get resigned by the Yanks.

September 22, 2007  06:49 PM ET

That's what she said.

September 22, 2007  06:50 PM ET

your mom.

September 22, 2007  06:52 PM ET

How are they moving Giambi? He's making close to 25 million next year? He will be gone after that, but unless the Yankees take the bulk of Giambi's salary, I think he stays in NYC next year.

New York wouldn't be as bad a fit as a lot of other teams though....

September 22, 2007  06:53 PM ET

Thank you very little

September 22, 2007  07:53 PM ET

New Yorkers hate his ****. Maybe the MEts would try tha tone but no the Yanks!

September 22, 2007  08:20 PM ET

He should go to the yankees, the evil empire meets the evil man.

September 23, 2007  12:50 AM ET

guys, im not argueing that the yankees should get him.

im just argueing that there are other teams that would be in worse shape if they signed him.
