The best team in the NFL is not the Patriots, its the Colts.

While everybody is talking about the Patriots beating up on everybody by a lot of points and are 7-0, the Colts are very quietly taking care of business and are also 7-0. It's almost like nobody is paying attention to the Colts, which seem to be fine with them.

Last I check, the Colts are the defending Super Bowl champions. They also have won the last 3 meetings they play against the Patriots including last year's AFC Championship game, in which the Colts came from behind and win 38-34.

November 4 the Patriots play the Colts in Indianapolis. That will determine who will have home field advantage in the AFC Championship game should they meet in the playoffs.

Until the Patriots beat the Colts when it counts, the Colts as defending Super Bowl champions, are still the best team in the NFL.

The Pats rank #1 in total offense at 39.9 points per game, 432.9 yards per game, 299.4 passing yards per game, 25.6 1st downs per game, They rank 7th in rushing offense

They rank 10th in scoring defense and 4th in yards per game allowed. They are first in INT's and 2nd in defensive TD's. 7th in sacks...

While I understand what you are saying about the Colts being undefeated after a SuperBowl year, but the NFL is a year to year business and if you are going to count last year and the last 3 meetings between the teams, then you have to count the Pats 3 SuperBowls in this decade. If it wasn't for a huge comeback last year in the playoffs, the Pats would have had another championship.

Basically, any other time I would agree with you, but what New England is doing is remarkable and I have never seen a team this good. They are destroying people and Brady and co. are setting records weekly. I know the Colts are undefeated and SB champs, but they are the 2nd best team in the NFL right now.

By the way the Colts won last night so now the Colts and Patriots are both now 7-0.

The Colts and Patriots are the most consistent teams in the NFL because they both have maintain their sucess by making good, smart decisions on their players. They also have head coaches in Bill Belichick and Tony Dungy that have been there during that stretch year after year.

Don't forget the Patriots have cheated their way to 3 Super Bowl titles, while the Colts did not cheat.

Sunday said it all...

First off you take 2 weeks to answer. You should had answer before the the Colts and Patriots play. Anyway the Colts had a 20-10 4th quarter lead with under 10 minutes left. The Colts were without Marvin Harrison, Tony Ugoh, and Freddie Keiaho, all 3 starters. The Patriots score 14 points in the final 9 minutes. The Colts are the only team that can stand toe to toe with the Patriots. Would it be interesting if these 2 teams meet in the AFC championship game in New England with the Patriots being undefeated, and the Colts beat them for the only lost of the season? That will be sweet for the Colts. That will be the utimate revenge for the Colts.

Colts are 6-0. Not 7-0.

colts have had a bye week ramdrumaster. the pats have all the offensive weapons but the colts can stop em.

We shall see...

New England is the best team in the NFL...

October 23, 2007  11:05 AM ET

Hey, who won the superbowl last year?? and who's beat them since? Until anyone can beat the Colts, they are the champs and they at least deserve the top place until proven other wise. Now having said that...I propose that the Patriots have a better chance of going undefeated than the colts...just my gut feeling.

Plato, on any other circumstance I agree with you, but you sort of proved my point with your last comment. Even you think the Pats are the better team. They are too dominant and this is one case where the exception is made.

October 23, 2007  11:15 AM ET

the best teams the Pats have played are the Chargers week 2 (they sucked then) and the Cowboys (who are slighty overrated). The Colts have allready won in Tennessee, Houston and Jacksonville.

October 23, 2007  11:25 AM ET

the pats have a weakness in the running game, indy will score 30+ against them, can they return against dungy? if any coach can defensively strategize to stop the pats its dungy

that being said i believe the loser of the reg season game between these 2 will win the superbowl, hide and watch

October 23, 2007  11:27 AM ET

you cannot argue against the Patriots. They are clearly the best team in the league. The stats say it all. I'm not saying the Colts arnt good, they are a little behind the Patriots, but to say the Patriots arnt the best is rediculous. They have been demolishing teams.

October 23, 2007  11:28 AM ET

Jagaor... Tennessee, Houston, and Jacksonville are not top teams either in the NFL

October 23, 2007  11:28 AM ET

tn and jacksonville are top 8

October 23, 2007  11:53 AM ET

Colts will beat the Pats again & I will be waiting to hear from all these bandwagon pats fans. This sight will no longer hear from them.

October 23, 2007  11:54 AM ET

Powersj, you're right, I do think in my gut that in a head to head battle the Patriots would win out. However, someone asked the question, and i have to give an official answer. I took the position that the Colts are the number one team based on the SB win, and they haven't done anything to lose that position. But you do have a case...a good one.

October 23, 2007  11:57 AM ET

stats arent everything and until the Pats play a good team we wont know. Jacksonville is a very good team this year and would have put up a much better fight if they didnt have to rely on their back-up QB Gray most of the game. To win AT Houston, Tennessee and Jacksonville is not easy. All division games. If Tennessee and Jacksonville arent top teams in the NFL then who is this year? Pittsburgh? (just lost to Denver), SD? (had horrible start), Dallas? (lost to only good team they played). Why dont you give some examples of your "good" teams in the NFL.

October 23, 2007  01:21 PM ET

it is near impossible to beat the colts in the dome these days. there's no way the pats will win

October 23, 2007  01:40 PM ET

I like this Jim L guy, NE is the best team in the NFL with no reason why they are. Bring it! as Romey would say.

October 23, 2007  02:13 PM ET

how many accounts does he have that he has 18 votes?

October 23, 2007  02:15 PM ET

Colts by a landslide are better than the Cheatriots. They have proven it with a harder schedule, more impressive all-around play, a running game, and a far superior QB.

October 23, 2007  02:56 PM ET

Colts and Pats are at such a higher level than anyone else in the league anyways, its not worth the debate. They will have play in the playoffs again, and questions will have answers.
