Pete Rose should be in the Baseball Hall of Fame for what he did as a ballplayer.

Pete Rose has the most hits in baseball history at 4,256. He was nickname "Charlie Hustle" because of play beyond the "call of duty".

He should be honor for his play on the field and be indicted to the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Now what he did as manager of the Reds by gambling on games is inexcusable. He should not be allow to be involve with any baseball team at all.

The one thing we all know is that there is no proof that Rose gamble on games as a player. And for that reason Rose should be honor for what he did as a ballplayer.

Pete Rose bet on baseball. He knowingly bet on baseball when he knew that it was against the rules--and therefore he should suck it up, take the consequences and not be put in the Hall of Fame.

Does he deserve to be in it? Absolutely.

But he broke the rules.

Pete Rose bet on baseball after his playing career was over.

He did this when he was managing the Reds not playing for the Reds. There is no proof that he bet on games while playing for the Reds.

Pete Rose should not be allow to be involve with any team in baseball, wheither it is in the major leagues, minor leagues, college , high school, etc.

But Rose should be honor for what he did as a ballplayer. At some point that has to be notice. If you want Rose to continue to be punish for what
he did is fine by me. But Rose should be honor for his play on the field.

Managing a team is still playing on the field, still playing the game--and he did it on a MLB team, and did it multiple times. It's wrong and he deserves it.

He broke the rules.

Rose influence games as a manager, he did not influence games as a player. Those are 2 separate situations.

You have to separate what Rose did as a manager to what he did as a player.

As I said Rose's acomplishments as a player should be honor, but he should not be involve in baseball in any capacity.

What do you mean Rose didn't influence games as a player? He was in the game! And he admitted that he bet when he was a player. Read his book before you spout anymore BS.

Rose doesn't belong in the HOF.

Can he fix it?

October 23, 2007  05:28 PM ET

!!!YES HE CAN!!!

LOL

Nice.

October 23, 2007  05:30 PM ET

yeah, funny how druggies get 3rd and 4th chances in the majors, and that's not only against the rules but against the law, but Rose bet on his own team, not against them, and he gets banned...

October 23, 2007  05:31 PM ET

I should have never taken this throwdown.

I actually want Rose in the HOF.

October 23, 2007  05:32 PM ET

In his autobiography, Rose admits that he bet on baseball and other sports while playing and managing. He just says he never bet against his team.

October 23, 2007  05:34 PM ET

Nope. Rose can never ever be reinstated to the game. He broke the rule listed first in every single clubhouse in baseball, and that rule clearly states that punishment for breaking it is a life time ban from the game. That rule applies to everyone involved in MLB, not just players. He can't claim he didn't know about it and he can't claim he didn't know the consequences. He did it anyway, then the moron denied it for years, while accepting the lifetime ban.

I don't know why this even gets argued anymore. There is no way to make a solid case for Rose if you know the rule.

October 23, 2007  05:38 PM ET

"yeah, funny how druggies get 3rd and 4th chances in the majors, and that's not only against the rules"

Doesn't matter. There is no rule in the rule book that gives a life time ban for first offense drug abuse. There IS such a rule for first offense gambling (doesn't even have to be on baseball). You may not agree with the rule, and that's fine, but Rose knew it and ignored it. He has nobody but himself to blame. No sympathy.

OJ brokes the rules to.. yet he is in the HoF

October 23, 2007  05:39 PM ET

He also killed someone too.

And Yet he is banned...Hmmm.
He does not get in, this is so simple. He bet on baseball, he bet on his own team, he was managing the team he was betting on, are you kidding me?

October 23, 2007  05:41 PM ET

"OJ brokes the rules to.."

And which rule, exactly, did OJ break that requires life time ban from the game? Don't say murder. 1) He wasn't convicted and 2) He was enshrined long before that happened.

October 23, 2007  05:42 PM ET

OJ didn't break a cardinal rule of the game. Rose could have fessed up years ago. He only admitted to gambling to sell more copies of his book. Keep him out.

October 23, 2007  05:42 PM ET

If you want to take on a cause for someone belonging in the HOF, go with Shoeless Joe Jackson. A MUCH more solid case can be made for lifting his lifetime ban.

October 23, 2007  05:43 PM ET

Pete for the hall simply based on his accomplishments as a player

October 23, 2007  05:44 PM ET

He also lied about betting on baseball...who know if he is lying about not betting while he was playing...disgrace to the game...no matter how many hits he had!

October 23, 2007  05:46 PM ET

I say let him in right after we put Joe Jackson in

October 23, 2007  05:46 PM ET

"Pete for the hall simply based on his accomplishments as a player"

Doesn't work that way. MLB doesn't have anything to do with the HOF. The HOF is a private entity. Their rule is you have to be in good standing with MLB to be eligible for an HOF ballot. As long as he is banned by MLB his name can't appear on a ballot per the Halls own rule.

Ah, Shoeless Joe...definately a hall of famer...
