Home field advantage in the World Series should be determine by the team the best record not the All Star game.

I know baseball used the All Star game to determine it because they want to make the All Star game mean something. But let's face it, the All Star game is a exhibition game. It was a exhibition game to begin with, and it still is even thought it determines home field avdvantage in the World Series.

well if it determines World Series home field advantage then its not exhibition anymore like you say it is.... i agree it seems unfair it does have its negatives, but it DOES hype up the all star game, player go in knowing what they are playing for...they are representing a team, a city, knowing that if his team just makes the WS they are going to play in front of fans....it is MUCH more than merely and exhibition

The All Star game is not what it used to be.

Players change teams all the time unlike in the past. Plus we live in a world where every game is available all over the place. That's why the All Star game should not determine home field advantage in the World Series.

This year the Red Sox had a better record than the Rockies, so the outcome of the All Star game would not have matter.

If both wild card teams from both leagues make the World Series, then the team with the better record will have home field advantage.

imagine the best players in the league actually going against each other, competing against each other, All star games in every sport is just an exhibition game, usually a put on show, and nothing more....now its not, its a fantasy team of the AL against the NL actually going head to head for something to win or loose....although i agree a royal player doesnt care much...but the Roster is not made up of mostly Royals..but players from playoff bound teams..they DO have something to loose and win for

Baseball needs to get rid of a rule in which every team in baseball has to be represented at the All Star game. Who wants to see a player from the Royals paly in the game that matters.

In 2001 the Arizona Daimondbacks won the World Series by beating the Yankees 4-3 winning Game 7 3-2 scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th Inning off Mariano Rivera. The Home team won all 7 gamesin this series

The reason I bought this up is beacuse that year the Yankees had a record of 95-65, while the Diamondbacks had a record of 92-70. As a Yankees fan, if Game 7 was at Yankee Stadium, the outcome would be a lot different.

That's why home field advantage should be determine by best record.

Then what would the point of the All-Star game be?

October 27, 2007  08:11 PM ET

it should be determined by the post season record....who ever has the best record at the end of the season win home field in there division up until the W.S. then the best post season record should get it.

October 27, 2007  08:11 PM ET

all star games are for career recognition....

October 27, 2007  08:16 PM ET

"all star games are for career recognition...."

No it isn't, otherwise Ken Griffey Jr., and Roger Clemens would be there EVERY year...

They take the people that do good year by year, not in their FULL career.

October 27, 2007  08:18 PM ET

then why do people always bring up how many time someone has been to the ALL Star game? They brag about how good a player is by cy young golden glove all star game...

October 27, 2007  08:19 PM ET

Ken griffey jr is in the hospital every year why would he make it?

October 27, 2007  08:19 PM ET

Oh, you are talking about after the games are all said and done, my bad.

October 27, 2007  08:22 PM ET

oh yeah...sorry bout that didn't clarify

October 27, 2007  08:22 PM ET

The All Start game is nothing more than an exhibition and should most definitely NOT determine home field for the World Series. By rule, no pitcher can throw more than 3 innings in an A.S. Game. That simple fact alone makes it a meaningless exhibition that moron Bud Selig decided to attach relevance to because of HIS OWN screw up in declaring a tie a few years back.

This might be the worst Idea baseball has ever conceived. (and there have been a lot of really bad ones)

The winner getting home field advantage gives the players a little incentive...but most important, hopefully, we won't have any more [CENSORED] ties.

October 27, 2007  08:28 PM ET

"The winner getting home field advantage gives the players a little incentive"

No it doesn't. Half the players in the game already know THEIR team has no chance at the W.S. so where is the incentive? Manny (among others) doesn't care enough to even bother playing most years.

Look at last year. Thank goodness the A.L. won the A.S. game at the end else you'd have seen St. Louis and their 83 wins holding the advantage over a Tigers team that won nearly 100. How absurd is that? (Yes, I know the Cardinals ended up winning it all)

October 27, 2007  08:30 PM ET

well the Cards won how absurd is THAT?

October 27, 2007  08:38 PM ET

Tie baseball games are absurd!

October 27, 2007  09:24 PM ET

players go in knowing what they're playing for? do you really think a dude on the Royals cares whehter or not the Yankees or Red Sox or Tigers or Indians or Angels, etc. have home field advantage in the WS? something tells me no. do you really think the Pirates' rep. gives a rat'sass about who'se got HFA? please. worst idea ever.

October 27, 2007  09:25 PM ET

what's absurd is that the Cardinals even made the playoffs...

October 27, 2007  09:28 PM ET

Yes, but that another topic entirely.

Players play in the All-Star game and risk injury. Even though it seems unfair for the team with a better record to be on the road more, it is right.
1- The team in the better conference, faces better teams more often throughout the season
2- The All-Star game means something this way
3- The conference comes together and the best players help out so that someone from their conference can win the series
It is good how it is

What's the difference? Either way you get a team with homefield advantage. You change nothing other than how the selection is made. Boston would still have home field this season. Big whoop
