The National League is the only league in professional baseball not to have a Designated Hitter.
Every league including the minor leagues, college, etc. has a designated hitter. Heck Little League has a DH. Only the National League doesn't
Here a question for everybody to answer, would you rather have David Ortiz at the plate, or a pitcher who can't hit a lick at the plate? My answer is I rather have Ortiz at the plate and you can't argue that. Who wants to see a pitcher who can't hit at the plate.

first of all theres only two leagues and i think its cools to have pitchers hit instead
and not everone has a ortiz there some pichers better than batting than some everyday players
and its intresting if their different ( american and national league)

I'm talking about all leagues of baseball have used a DH.
There are certain players in the NL that will benefit as a DH. A lot of then can't play any defense at all. That's where having a DH comes in mind.
The Players union will never get rid of the DH because players make money being a DH.
Again, seeing a pitcher hit is a waste of time. Nobody wants to see a pitcher hit with runners on base in scoring position.

yeah but the fans think its intresting and i think the nl will keep it that way

Pitchers don't pitch more innings in the NL because the 9th spot comes up in close games. While in the AL, with the DH, pitchers pitch much longer.
While there is more strategy in the NL, the lineups in the NL are much weaker than the AL.
Just think about the NL having a DH. All the hitters who can't field like Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn, Miguel Cabrera, etc. don't have to worry about their defense if there is a DH.
Plus this will force NL teams to spend money on constructing lineups with a DH.

i guess for the sake of making some difference between the leagues, the NL shouldn't adopt the DH. however, i don't like seeing 8 batters instead of 9.

it's more interesting to see a pitcher throw to nine batters instead of eight.

Communist... don't make my precious NL take on the DH so 40yr old out of the prime no longer athletes can extend their careers out. If you are a baseball "player" you should be able to hit and field or have your hitting at least be so decisive that your fielding liabilities can be ignored.
Plus its more interesting to see actual managerial moves, and debate weather they took out a pitcher too soon or not. AL baseball is sitting around waiting for a homerun. boring

Ortiz is playing first base tonight. So I wouldn't have to choose between him and a pitcher.

DH's are for pus.sies. Pitchers are apart of the game and should be expected to bat also. Managers in the AL are VERY overrated. They don't have to manage, just fill out the damn lineup card. AL should DROP the DH.

They don't need DH. Not having a DH makes the strategy that more important for NL managers. Should I take out the pitcher because we need runs and he's coming up, even though he's pitching well? Should I keep the guy on the mound and have him hit? Those are some of the questions that go through NL managers' minds that don't even come across AL mangers' at all except for inter-league play.

I did this throwdown awhile back. Our arguments where a little bit better. I don't like the DH but I do think its good for baseball in the fact that it attracts a wider variety of fans. I just think it takes a more complete and talented team to with without a DH.

I don't agree with you, YDT8523, but my vote goes to you because you have far better arguments.

Get rid of the DH. Pitchers should allow themselves to be thrown at, just like everybody else. ;)

No vote, but a comment. Having a NL team use a DH in interleague play is fine; not for an ENTIRE season in the NL!!!
I'd rather see pitchers hit, to be honest with you.
