The 2007 collapsed of the Mets was bigger than the 2004 Yankees collapsed.

The 2007 Mets had a 7 game lead on the Phillies on Aug 25 and then a 7 game lead on the Phillies on Sept 12. The Mets went on to lose the NL East to the Phillies by one game.

The 2007 Mets were in first place basically for most of the season. But then things started to go downhill from the All Star break on. Jose Reyes didn't hit the 2nd half. Their pitching, especially their bullpen, fall apart. And teams like the Nationals and Marlins beat them.

The 2004 Yankees had a 3-0 lead in the ALCS against the Red Sox, and then the Red Sox came back to win 4 straight to win the series and went on to win the World Series.

At least the Yankees made the playoffs that year. While the Mets did not make the playoffs.

Bottom line is the 2007 Mets collapsed in the regular season is bigger than the 2004 Yankees collapsed.

Simple question: Which will you remember 10 years from now? Simple answer: The Yankees blowing a 3-0 lead. Sure, it might seem like a big deal that a baseball team lost the lead during the regular season, but then again, look at the lead the Rockies erased to make the playoffs to begin with. But years from now we'll all either still be laughing at how the Yankees dribbled all over themselves to blow a 3-0 lead, or still be crying about it. Nobody but the most ardent of Mets' fans will care either way 10 years from nwo.

The Yankees in 2004 made the playoffs that year. The Mets in 2007 had the lead in the NL East for most of the year and collapsed and did not make the playoffs. Granted the Yankees blew a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox in the ALCS, and had not won a playoff series since. But the Mets were consider the best team in the National League which is Baseball's version of the NFC in the NFL. And let's remember the Biggest regular season collapsed before the 2007 Mets was the 1964 Phillies who blew the National League pennant.

I see, and who besides you knows that the 1964 Phillies blew the National League pennant. A show of hands please. Anyone...anyone...Bueller....Bueller.... I see, exactly as I suspected. Nobody. But 10 years from now, EVERYONE will remember and still talk about the Yankees blowing a 3-0 lead in the ALCS. Which is the entire point of this TD.

People talk about the Red Sox blowing a 14 game lead to the Yankees in 1978. Explain why that's been talk about a lot. So the Mets blowing a 7 game lead twice to the Phillies will be talk about as much as the Yankees blowing a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox in the ALCS in 2004. The 2007 Mets collapsed at the end of the season will be remember by a lot of people.

So what's your argument then? I don't care if it will be remembered by A LOT of people. You said it was BIGGER. And it obviously isn't . Even by your third arguement, you've basically conceded the point. I quote 'So the Mets blowing a 7 game lead twice to the Phillies will be talk about as much as the Yankees blowing a 3-0 lead to the Red Sox'. If it was be talked about AS MUCH, then it can't possibly be BIGGER. Save yourself the embarrassment of your own argument and forfeit, because you've lost this one big time.

Definitely the Yankees. Anytime you are ONE WIN away from moving on in the playoffs with the kind of team they had and lose (thank goodness they did), it is worse than ANY regular season collapse. What happened to them had NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE IN ANY OF THE MAJOR SPORTS IN THE MODERN ERA. At least the Mets had company in the past.

Vote to Gruden. It is what will stick out in people's minds. Two "BIG" teams in big games...

The historic Bosox collapse of 1978 has been trotted out almost annually since, well, 1979. This year, it was mentioned far more than the Yanks in '04. It's one thing to drop a lead in the playoffs, but to choke it up like that at the end of the season? Well, any member or RSN can tell you THAT'S what the sports writers will bring up first. Vote to YDT.

Actually, upstatebabeismistaken, it isn't "one thing". It was the first time in HISTORY that a MLB team had lost a 3-0 lead in the playoffs. There have been MANY teams choke near the end of the season and lose the division.
