Boston has a great 1-2-3 punch, likely the best in the league. But when was the last time Ray Allen made it through an entire season? What about the aging Paul Pierce. KG is the only constant on this team and he couldn't carry the entire Minnesota team to a title. Rondo couldn't shoot at Kentucky and he still can't shoot in the NBA. The team will win a lot of games, but when depth becomes a factor in the playoffs, this team won't match up with Detroit in the east and a handful of other teams in the West.

I will say that they have the best chance to win an NBA title for this reason. They play in the East, so their trip in the playoffs will be easier than that of the Western conference. I personally dont believe they winn win the championship, but I will argue your points anyways:

Paul Pierce has been healthy every single year of his carrer except for last year. Not to mention hes lost weight, and just turned 30.
Rondo doesnt need to be a great shooter. He needs to be a good passer, which he is. He has more than enough offensive weapons around him, so a high shooting% isnt really needed.
They match up amazingly against the other east teams. Theyve beat the Raptors, Nets, and Wizards, all of whom were in the playoffs last year. Not to mention their blowout of the western conference Nuggets.

Look, Im not saying they will win the NBA title, but with their trip through the eastern conference playoffs, THEY HAVE THE BEST CHANCE. They have the best to win the championship because they have an easier road that the Spurs, Mavericks, Rockets, and Suns. Each of these four teams will eventually play each other which the Celtics play teams like the Bulls and Wizards.

I like your points, but you said exactly what I feel: "...Look, Im not saying they will win the NBA title."

Their first challenge will be making it through the Eastern Conference playoffs unscaved. However while Detroit seems to be the same-old-Pistons, watching them this year reminds me more of the 2004 and 2005 teams than the 2006 and 2007 teams. They are rejuvanated and playing extremely well. There are no great teams in the east, which is why, while you might argue Boston has the easiest chance to win the title b/c they have an easy road in the east, their road isn't that easy. Orlando is much improved, Chicago is sure to turn things around (especially if Kobe arrives). Could Cleveland do it again? Who knows.

Fact is, the east isn't a pushover conference and winning the east only means a date with the Spurs or Mavs or Rockets or Suns or .... name your West team. Boston will be a team that, for the next few years, is all for show.

Boston is playing BETTER than any other team in the east. YOu cant argue that. Though, youre right, we are only a couple weeks into the season, the Celticcs have been playing the best asketball, so as of right now I see them as a f avorite.

The Pistons do not look like the 2004, 2005 Piston teams. The t eam is off to a 6-2 start, but they have not played anyone, including losses to a poor Bulls team and Oden-less Blazers team.

My point is, the Celtics will have it better off than any other team in the playoffs. Thus, they have the greatest chance to make to the NBA finals, where its a 50/50 on winning the title. Arguably better teams like the Spurs, Mavs, etc. HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF GETTING KNOCKED OUT OF THE PLAYOFFS. Not because they are worse teams, but rather, becasue they are playing better teams than the Celtics.

Because of that, right now the Celts can be seen as a favorite to get to the NBA finals and/or championship

Yes, getting to the NBA Finals means a team has a 50-50 chance of winning, but when you yourself said the Mavericks, Spurs, Suns are much better, then how are those chances still 50-50.

We also have to realize we're 10 games into the season. The Celtics SHOULD be this good right now because it's early in the year. The playoffs come when Allen and Pierce are always banged up and after KG has played 80+ games. With no depth, the Celtics will be hurting come April.

That gives teams like Detroit, Chicago and NBA Finals tested Cleveland an advantage of fresh legs. Could the Celtics make the NBA Finals. Sure. Could they not? The chances are just as good. That means getting there will be half the battle.

The throwdown is: Boston will NOT win the NBA Title. THAT IS THE ARGUMENT. They will not win the title. If you don't think they will, then you shouldn't have taken the throwdown since you're just backing up my argument.

The Celtics are just as deep if not deeper than any other team in the East. I dont see how you disagree with that

And in no way are the Cavs or Bulls in a better position than the Celtics. The CEltics right now are a top 2 if not the best team in the league. They play unselfishly. Their big three arent rookies, they are vets with a common goal in mind--a championship. I dont see how you can disagree with that

The Celtics also match up very well against the Spurs, Mavs, and Suns. The Celtics are by far the b est team in the east.

And of coarse the Pistons will give the Celtics a run for their money, but the Celtics have a better comparison position by position except for PG.

The Celtics HAVE THE BEST CHANCE TO WIN IN THE FINALS for the following reasons:

a. they have the best chance to get to the finals. they dont have to go through western teams. they have to get through eastern conference teams while the spurs, mavs, rockets, jazz and suns will all beat up on each other.

b. they have arguably the best trio in the game that play unselfishly

c. though they are an eastern team, they match very well against western teams. the can run, they can play defense, but mainly, they w

They won't win the title, but that is not because Ray Allen can't make it through a season or Rondo can't shoot. It's because they are not as good as the top 4 western conferense teams.

1. Spurs
2. Mavs
3. Suns
4. Rockets
5. Celtics

i personally dont think they will win the championship either, but im argueing his points not his stance

I have to go w/ awc1230. The Celts are 7-0, outplaying everyone, and the East appears to be a cake walk. The LeBrons- I mean Cavs- are playing 5 on 1 each night. The Bulls apparently were under the impression Kobe would be playing for them. The Pistons can't hang. The Nets, Raptors and Knicks? Pshaw. Miami, Atlanta, Washington, Charlotte? Yeah, right. They can run through the East and in the rugged West, the Spurs, Suns, Nuggets and Mavs would beat each other up. That gives them the best chance, like awc said.

November 14, 2007  07:24 PM ET

The Celtics may be outplaying everyone so far, but come playoff time, it's gonna come down to Detroit and Phoenix in the finals.

November 14, 2007  07:30 PM ET

None of Bostons big 3 have played in many big games throughout their careers. All is cool when youre coasting through the East while teams like the Spurs, Suns, Rockets, and Nuggets are getting better every night out in the West. Also, I would never bet against Tim Duncan and the Spurs especially since they are playing their best ball....ever. Manu is the best he has ever been, Tony is solid, and Duncan is Duncan. Since when does a regular season record mean anything, Mavericks last year??? Undoubtedly the Celtics will have a regular season for the ages, but they still have a lot to prove once playoff time rolls around.

My opinion is
1. Suns
2. Mavs
3. Celts
4. Spurs
5. Da BULLS

November 14, 2007  08:07 PM ET

Da Bulls blow!!!!

November 14, 2007  08:10 PM ET

05-06 Allen played in 78 games

04-05 78 games

2 of last 3 seasons he has played 78 games

On a team like C's where he wont have to do it all, he shld play in at least 70 plus games

November 14, 2007  08:21 PM ET

what big teams have the Celtics played? thats what i thought no one. until then, dont say they will win the title.

November 15, 2007  12:00 PM ET

Thats right, Those West giants are too much to contend with. Sure, they (C's) may do well in the East.

November 15, 2007  03:19 PM ET

Celtics meshed way better than I though possible. If they make the playoffs and the big three are healthy through the playoffs, they are my favorite. This is only because it is a even numbered year and by rule the Spurs can't win.

November 26, 2007  11:06 AM ET

This myth that Rondo can't shoot needs to stop. He is shooting 55% from the field and making all the open jumpers which is all this team needs him to do. Watch the games and don't just listen to Stephen A. Smith.

November 26, 2007  11:15 AM ET

You said "will not" That is a definitive statement. They have a numerical shot, it may not be a great one but a chance none the less.
Had you said they were not likely, I would have agreed.

The NBA championship will continue to come out of the Western Conference for at least the next three seasons. While good, BOS is not going to be the champ.
