Cardinals have 2nd best hitting? Is that a joke? Outside of Pujols they have no one! Outside of Pujols, their RBI leader has 70 RBIs, their HR leader has 21 HR followed by 14 HR and 12 HR, and their SB leader of 10 is now gone. Since Eckstein is leaving, Pujols is their ONLY .300 hitter. With no protection around him. The Crdinals are power-less, and speed-less.
The Brewers have a better offense than the Reds also. You can compare as a team and the Brewers way outscore the Reds. Sure, the Reds have a lot of power provided by Phillips and Dunn, but Id take the young cre of the Brewers over them anyday. Price lead the NL in homers last year, and Braun wasnt far behind even though he got called up two months into the season. Hardy, seen from last year, can get as hot as anybody in the league, while COrey Hart is the best RF no one has hear of. Who knew he was nearly a 30/30 guy last year, despite not starting for a good portion of last year?
How are the Astros 2nd to last in hitting? With the middle of the order being Tejada, Berkman, Carlos Lee and Pence, the astros have a much more capable lineup than the the Cards to say the least. Plus they have added much speed. Pitching Next

This TD was about the best hitting/ptichings team. You said nothing about HR's and RBI's... I'm debating hitting, or batting average.
The Astros hit .260 last year. Is Tejada going to hit in every spot but Burkmans? If not, then they will NOT improve drastically.
The Brewers don't do anything offensively better than the Reds but hit HR's. They had less hits than the Reds last year and hit 5 points less.
The Cards had their share of injuries last year, but are still a very potent offense led by the best hitter in baseball, Pujols. Eckstein, Edmonds, Ankiel, Miles, Rolen. They might not be a bunch of All Stars, but they can hit.

LAST YEAR THE CARDINALS WOULD HAVE BEEN SECOND, MAYBE. But look at their offseason. They havent dont anything but get worse.
Miles just left. Eckstein has left. Rolen and Edmonds are huge question marks. That leaves Pujols and Ankiel to anchor an entire lineup. Ankiel played for about a month. The Cardinals are left with huge holes in their lineup, and they have NO speed. Thier stolen base leader without Eckstien (10) is 5.
Its not just Tejada coming that will help Huston's team. Everett and his .220 average is leaving. Ausmus and his 225 average is reduced to not played, but he is on the team to mentor JR Towles. Biggio's .240 average is leaving, and so is Scott's .250 average. In coming are Matsui's 290 average, Towels (our catching prospects 300 average, Miggy's 296 avg and Bourne's 280 avg.
The Astros have added much needed speed. A 1-2 punch at the order of Bourne Matsui (30+ steals last year) will help a lot. Anyone from Philly will tell you about Bourne's athleticism and speed.

I'm interested to see how the Bewers can possibly be number 4 in hitting with Fielder and Braun in their lineup.

It's hitting, not homeruns... they ranked 11th in the NL in hitting last year (behind the Pirates)...

The Stros hit .260 as a team last year... Tejada hit .296 last year....he isn't going to help as much as people think. This TD is about hitting, nothing more

Cardinals had the best hitting in the Central last year... look at the numbers. You are going off of the big names and not looking at the facts. They are a better "hitting" team than anyone else in the Central, minus the Cubs after they acquired Fukudome

I can;t vote for either side. The Astros are not a good hitting ball club, and can't be number 2. But the Cards aren't either. I don't like either one of these rankings.

When Carlos Lee is batting 6th in the lineup, your offense is probably good...
