I saw this one earlier and I think that it is a good topic to argue. I will have to say that LSU has more to lose in the game than Ohio State.

First off, they are a 2 lost team playing for the championship and they lost one of their last 2 games( NOV 23 ARK)
The image of the SEC being so much head and shoulders over the other confrences
Florida beating the mess out of them last year. If LSU gets into a battle with OSU, questions about the SEC will arise.

If LSU loses to Ohio State, that will only bring more controversy and people will say that the voter were being bias for LSU over a more deserving 1 loss team.
OSU has their pride on the line but LSU has their Confrence on the line. Never again will an SEC team get the benifit of the doubt over others if they do not put on a good display of SEC power over Ohio State. Supposedly OSU had a cake walk to the NC game and LSU had to fight to get there. If they don't win the war the previous battles do not even matter.

In my not so humble opinion, Ohio State's entire program is on the line in this game. This will be their second in a row. In last year's game they were #1 by a wide margin and got a beat down in the NC game. If they lose again this year, especially if they get another beat down from an SEC team, then everyone will know what is already suspected. And that's that the Big 10 is an extremely overrated conference. So not only is Ohio State's reputation on the line; so is the reputation of their entire conference.

Both conferences are on the line because this is the 2nd consecutive years that and Big 10 and SEC team have decide who will be national champs. In the past few years, I always thought that the SEC was better than the Big 10. I thought that the image of the Big 10 was basically the Big 2 and the other 8. I think that if OSU had lost 2 games then there was no chance of them getting in the the NC game. As for LSU, they started out near the top and people have continued to glorify them and make them seem to be such a GREAT team. Don't get me wrong I think that they are a very good team but 2 losses is 2 losses and there were other close calls out there LSU fans. A few 4 down conversions. But if they lose what will happen:

LSU this team was not better than last year Florida's team
LSU defense and team over hyped.
NO SEC team goes to the NC unless undefeated or early ranked loss and win the SEC Championship game.

OSU lose what happens:
Weren't suppose to be there anyway
Rebuilding year
Rep hurt and pride hurt
played a weak schedule anyways

Actually, the SEC won it convincing last season, so losing this year does't hurt the SEC's reputation at all this season. It isn't like they would have lost two in a row.....

Nobody is saying that LSU is better than Florida was last year, so that point doesn't belong there. Florida won it all, end of story. But LSU is certainly considered a top tier team playing in one of the toughest conferences in all of college football.

As for "rebuilding year"....HUH? How can you claim to be in a rebuilding year and be playing in the National Championship game at the same time? NOBODY will EVER claim they were rebuilding and that's why they lost the NC.

But in the end, your last sentence says it all. If they lose again, it will be known that they play a weak schedule (the Big 10), and next year they won't get that benefit of the doubt. If LSU loses, they'll still be ranked in the top 10 preseason next year. OSU will not.

Based on their histories of being powerhouse teams, Ohio State and Michigan will go the the NC game if they go undefeated. Hawaii didn't go this year because of their totally weak schedule. While Florida handed it to last year's Ohio State 41 to 14, this year there is no Ted Ginn Jr, Anthony Gonzalez, or Heisman trophy winning QB Troy Smith on this team. No one was talking about OSU returning to the NC game. USC, LSU, Texas, Florida and a few others were the big names. OSU lost a lot of players to the draft and they just went out there and played football for 12 games and did what was needed to get done. All of these other (I think it was 8) 2nd seeded up sets helped them right alone in to the NC game. While LSU lost Russell, their defense was their strong point and the majority of them were returning. LSU while ranked second in the polls are the favorite to win the game and the favorite has more to lose than the underdog. Do you think that Hawaii has more to lose than Georgia? I don't think so. Also if Dorsey isn't a monster in the NC game, his draft stock will drop. I.E. Troy Smith.

I read everything there, and you seem to be missing something very important. Ohio State is #1. I don't know if you intentionally didn't mention it, or if it just slipped your mind. And they are #1, going in to the NC game....AGAIN.

YOu say LSU is favored to win the game, but you're talking about the Vegas betting line. LSU doesn't have more to lose based on the point spread.....gamblers do. And if LSU wins by 3, the gamblers still lose because they are favored by 4. So honestly, the Vegas point spread is not really meaningful to this discussion.

As for the Georgia - Hawai'i game: Who cares? Again, meaningless to this discussion.

And the Dorsey discussion has nothing to do with LSU - OSU. That's just one dude. He'll get drafted either way. Smith was never a #1 pick, so his status didn't drop at all.

In the end, If OSU loses again, after going into the game ranked #1, it crushes their fans and hurts their future recruiting. If LSU loses, they say "Hey, we lost twice and STILL fought back to get into the NC game".

Ohio State's entire program is on the line? Holy crap, they'd better not lose.

LSU has nothing to lose...they shouldn't even be there...

First off, if it's a close game neither team loses anything, but in a blowout, if LSU loses, the BCS takes the biggest hit because there was so much debate on which team should actually be playing in the first place. An LSU loss just means the BCS guessed wrong.

But if OSU loses big, I'm with Gruden, two blowouts in a row would sap OSU and the Big Ten of a whole lot of respectability. Vote to Gruden.

godgavemestyle is a true genius. If he had looked at the vote totals, instead of my comment, he would have known I voted FOR his list. But leave it to Fannation to have people voting for no reason other than stupid ones.

the new MJ is right, this was suposed to be a rebuilding year for OSU. If they lose they will still most certainly be in the top 10 next year. top 5 actually. they have tons of underclassmen. .

December 19, 2007  11:32 AM ET

MJ's point was that this was supposed to be a rebuilding year for OSU. No one expected them to get within a sniff of the title game.

I think LSU has more to prove than OSU, but more to prove and more to lose aren't necessarily the same thing.

Laurinaitis is a junior, not a senior.

Nothing says "bad for a program" like competing for the NC 2 years in a row. People will have a field day on the Big 10 if OSU loses.

December 19, 2007  01:40 PM ET

LSU is not just playing for LSU but for the SEC, to have to come back and face the SEC's other 11 teams and their fan bases after losing to a Big Ten team or any other for The National Championship.Unthinkable.I don't think LSU whips OSU the way the Gators did last year, but LSU will bring home the hardware.Big Ten maybe on the rise again soon with RR at Michigan and having a better than average shot at the #1 recruit in the nation. And the others that will follow.

December 19, 2007  01:46 PM ET

first of all, there are already question brought up about LSU and the SEC. LSWho should never have been in the championship game in the first place. TWO losses? Give me a break.
OSU will stop LSU!

Who would you have go in place of LSU?
