'Ey Capernicus - O'Connell! said 12/23, 09:38 PM
The Patriots will get a high pick thanks to the 49ers. They should trade down and upgrade their defense instead of drafting McFadden. Their linebackers are getting especially old and teams are attempting to take advantage of that by running right at them. Rodney Harrison is getting up there in years at 35. Asante Samuel might be leaving. Laurence Maroney has had a good last two weeks and when Morris comes back the running game will be more effective. Therefore they will not need McFadden and the age of their defense is a more pressing matter.
Bradybeats49 said 12/23, 09:55 PM
As you said the Pats will get a high draft pick, most likly they'll pick Mcfadden. Now why wouldn't you pick him, even if the defense is old, you have Belicheck as a coach and he always has a way of making no-name players great. Also if the Patriots have Mcfadden they could trade Maroney for a draft pick and use the he's got potenial card after the last few weeks and after the Dolphins game. The Patriots relie on their passing attack and so they don't focus so much on Maroney because he's been inconsisent this season, but he has improved since last year so he's tradable. I also thought Morris was more than what he was supposed to be and for a while thought he was better than Maroney, so he's tradable too. Think of it, you trade one, get a great defensive player or two if your going for lower value, and still have a one, two puch in McFadden, and Maroney or Morris. Also think of trading one of the defensive players for a draft pick, because after some Belicheck maturing he would fit perfectly into the system, and if he dosen't see ya and Bill will get a player that does fit the system by trading the draft pick for one that does. Belicheck has a keen eye for talent, he wouldn't do it
'Ey Capernicus - O'Connell! said 12/23, 10:03 PM
You said the Patriots have a coach named Bill Belichick. Well guess what? Bill also likes to trade down in the draft. He's done it numerous times and plenty of those times he's gone with defense. Bill obviously sees that the defense is aging and slowing down and he obviously sees that Maroney is imporving gradually and he also sees that when Morris comes back the running game will be much improved.
You say that they should trade Maroney and/or Morris. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Before Morris was injured we were running the ball just find. We were balanced. Also, it is hard for a running back to play nearly every down like McFadden would if we only have Faulk as the back up and he is aging so he will not be able to play as much. Maroney has been inconsistent, but just by watching him over the last few weeks I haev seen a clear change. He used to dance around before hitting the line of scrimmage, but now he is running right into defenders full speed and not wasting time. He is clearly learning what to do and he is getting better week by week. He is making better reads, breaking more tackles, getting more yards, and finding the holes much more than before the last two weeks.
Bradybeats49 said 12/24, 08:36 AM
I'm not saying that both Maroney and Morris would be traded but that could happen. The Patriots focus a lot on passing now so McFadden would probably share a lot of time with Faulk, or Maroney and/or Morris. Now you mean to tell me our running game was fine the first few games? Maroney looked o.k and because of that we looked toward Morris and he did slightly better than Maroney. The Pats average yds per game was through Week 16 is 120.3 yds which is 10 in the league. The Pats rank first in almost every other cateragorie, and to have a running back as good as McFadden would take the pressure off Brady. Also if it's not broke don't fix it. Why did you say that, sure it's not broke but really do you think that the running game is brand spanking new, and everythings great about it. Now we both know Bill likes defense but have you seen him pick up any specatular(or was supposed to be) on defense other than Adalius Thomas. He has really been focusing on offense lately, cough...Moss..cough..Welker...cough...Stallworth. He's been helping Brady out lately just imangine how Brady would be helped out with McFadden. I know he's traded down before but would he really give up more points?
'Ey Capernicus - O'Connell! said 12/24, 10:47 PM
McFadden is one of those backs who demands the ball. He needs the ball. If we draft him and still focus mostly on the passing game he won't be happy. And actually, I never said the running game was new, but Maroney is pretty young and he has a good potential. He will improve and he will eventually become a consistent starting running back.
Yes Belichick has been focusing on offense lately, but now that we have the most potent offense in the league we it isn't a pressing matter to improve it. Last season Brady had no one to throw to, Bill got people to throw to. Now our defense is aging and Bill should and most likely will add some youth in there. Imagine the benefits of having great young players behind seasoned veterans like Seau, Vrabel, Bruschi, and Harrison. They would become great players and it would go to a much bigger need.
We have the best offense in the league, we don't have the best defense. Defense is a huge part of championship teams. Bill knows that. If in two or three years all of our great defensive players are gone and we didn't draft defensive players this year then we would be playing inexperienced players who had no time to improve. Our defense would stink
Bradybeats49 said 12/25, 01:23 PM
mcfadden would be rookie and I see McFadden making headlines with his play not his mouth.Arkansas gave him the ball because he was their most dangoures offensive weapon. again he would make all areas except defense better. he would do great in the offense or speical teams. belicheck always tries to get the most out of every player and he would get a workhorse in McFadden. Also what would he complain about? He has a great offensive line, Brady could help him mature as a player and as a person, he wouldn't have to play every down, everything makes his stats better why complain? To top it off he'll be on a Super Bowl caliber team. bilecheck also doesn't try to get the flashy superstar defensive players(Moss on defensive dosen't count), he hates the media what's the point. he wants people that can play, not talk, and if you are a talker he wants you to back it up. What I'm saying is he dosen't want the first round 1 purpose star he wants the muti-purpose not so great but smart defensive player so first round usually you don't find many of those. They usually have everything handed on a platter to them. Bill wants them to work, so he wouldn't trade down, it's way too improbable.

What makes you think McFadden will even be available with the 49ers pick?

I can't see New England getting a high enough pick to get McFadden. San Francisco's currently slated to pick eighth right now. There are three 4-11 teams that are projected to pick right before them. Baltimore's going to play Pittsburgh next week and Oakland's going to square off against San Diego. With San Diego and Pittsburgh playing for the #3 spot, I don't see either team dropping those games. San Francisco's draft slot will probably be seventh and McFadden will definitely be gone by then.

Okay, I was thinking hypothetically. I guess I should have said "If McFadden is available, the Patriots should trade down anyways." And oops, I spelled Patriots wrong in the title.

#1 they could use him,
#2 he won't be there. SF won, and that ended that whole idea

McFadden won't be available with the 49ers pick right now they have the 8th pick in the draft. Sure that is a great pick for a team that should be picking in the late 20's or 30's, but they won't get a shot at Mcfadden.

The more I saw the Dolphins play, the more it looked like McFadden should be their pick. Their D-line may be old, but they need an offense badly. Jon Beck proved that he was terrible. Should have gone with Brady Quinn.

Or they could just use the draft pick to give teams more of an option. That gets more teams into the mix.

That's another good reason not to draft him. Everyone knows Bill doesn't spend a lot of money usually.

Yenno, if they draft McFadden, they should trade him away as far as possible and get some good players for him.

I think the Patriots should take James Laurinaitis. Next year, Junior Seau will probably be gone and Tedy Bruschi is done. That leaves them with 3 starting linebackers in Adalius Thomas, Mike Vrabel and Roosevelt Colvin. Don't forget that Colvin is coming off a major injury. Don't forget that all of the Patriots starting linebackers are above the age of 30.
Not only that, but I like Maroney and think that he'll develop into a good player. I also think the Patriots will resign Moss and Samuel, which leaves their major weakness in the linebacking corps.

Yeah. It's a corn/wheat chip that will obliterate the competition by running up the score. I hear the company that makes them has already been caught videotaping the competition. :P
