EagleHater: Goodbye, FN said 01/01, 02:27 PM
This isn't like a Pro Bowl team, or a dream team or whatever. Just pick THE BEST player at each position based SOLELY on this year's achievements.
QB- Tom Brady (Duh)
RB- LaDainian Tomlinson (had a pretty significantly better year rushing than Westbrook, IMO, and a similar year receiving)
WR- Randy Moss (Duh... again)
TE- Jason Witten
LT- Joe Thomas (I'm finally convinced. No sacks allowed all season, and was decent with penalties for a rookie in one of the hardest pass rush divisions in the NFL)
LG- Steve Hutchinson (Road grader. All I can say.)
C- Jeff Saturday (Fantasmic O-lineman)
RG- Logan Mankins (great linemen who is very underrated)
RT- Marc Colombo (the vastly underrated lineman shut out numerous great pass rushers, including Aaron Kampman, and I only saw him give up 1 sack all year)
DE- Jared Allen (great pas rusher, and works the run effectively as well)
DT- Kevin Williams (brother Pat had a better year run stuffing, but Kevin had TWO pick-sixes)
OLB- DeMarcus Ware (Leads OLBs in sacks, DPOY candidate)
ILB- Patrick Willis (dominant playmaker)
CB- Antonio Cromartie (Asante was more consistent, but can't ignore 10 picks)
FS- Ed Reed
SS- Bob Sanders (likely DPOY)

QB-Tom Brady
RB-Ladanian Tomlinson
WR-Randy Moss
TE-Jason Witten
LT: Walter Jones (Joe Thomas is GREAT, and will probably take over this spot next year, but I'm still not convinced he isn't the best left tackle in football. The guy is an 8 time pro bowl selection, including this year, and he's arguably the best player on Seattle)
LG-Hutchinson
C-Saturday
RG-Mankins
RT-Colombo
DE-Allen
DT-Albert Haynesworth (He had 6 sacks as a Defensive Tackle in just 13 games. That is VERY impressive. Starting Defensive Tackle in the pro bowl, and if it wasn't for him, the Titans probably would of went 4-12 or something like that because the Titans defense sucks without him.)
OLB-Ware
ILB-Ryans
CB-Cromartie
FS-Reed
SS-Sanders

Alright... let's look at our differences-
LT
DT
ILB
OK, first off, YES Walter Jones is a great tackle. BUT... he has NOT had a better year than Thomas. Thomas has yet to allow a sack, and he is not a heavily penalized player. He is also a better tun blocker. Just look at the team numbers. Cleveland is the NFL's 10th best rushing attack, and averages 4.3 ypc. Seattle is the 20th "attack" and averages only 3.8 ypc. We can tell that this DOES have to do with Thomas. Last year, the Browns were 31st in rushing O, and averaged only 3.6 Thomas is the marquee addition.
At DT, Haynesworth is the most DOMINANT player... when he plays. Haynesworth had an INCREDIBLE opener to the season... Then he pulled his hamstring badly and missed three games. When he came back, he wasn't the same player. He had 6 tackles and 1 sack in 2 games before re-injuring the hamstring. He played sparingly the next week, but had no tackles or sacks. The next week he had 4 tackles, and then he was shut out AGAIN last week.
A GREAT start, a TERRIBLE finish.
I'll get to the ILBs next.

First, I meant Willis in my ILB, but I guess I will go with Ryans because he isn't too shabby either. It isn't Walter Jones fault that Shaun Alexander sucked so bad this year. Even on top of that, Alexander runs to the left a lot more than Morris, and Jones isn't blocking on the left. He also contributed to the fact that Hasselback had a good season and helped him get time to throw the ball to new number one receiver Bobby Ingram.
Your right. Haynesworth is the most dominant player. He also is the best player. He had the most sacks for a defensive tackle despite playing only in 13 games, he is the clear cut number one defensive tackle in the AFC, and runners averaged 3.6 yards a carry when he played, and he was constantly stopping runners before they could get started.
Willis had 174 total tackles, but a lot of these tackles are assisted, and in solo tackles, Willis and Ryans are nearly identical. Willis is also only average in the pass game. He had no interceptions, and the reason Ryans is better is because Willis is one dimensional in run stoppage, while Ryans can stop the run AND the pass.
EagleHater: Goodbye, FN said 01/01, 03:34 PM
Really? Jones isn't blocking on the left? Quite incredible, seeing as he is a LEFT TACKLE...
As for Haynesworth, he played DOMINANT football for 8 weeks... But over the final 8 weeks, he missed three games, did not make a SINGLE PLAY in two more, and was limited in another. That is 7 of the final 8 games he was almost totally contained in.
And I have NO CLUE where you got your stats from, but they are WRONG. Go to nfl.com, which lists the OFFICIAL stats. You say most of Willis's tackles are assisted... Funny thing is, his 135 SOLO tackles are 29 more than #2 Jonathon Beason's 106 solo tackles.
In fact, Willis has more solo tackles than all but TWO other players in the NFL, and he has THIRTY-SIX more than DeMeco Ryans. So much for "in solo tackles, Willis and Ryans are nearly identical"
So let's look... Willis has 46 more total tackles than Ryans, about 5 games worth. He has 36 more solo tackles. And don't forget, Willis plays in a 3-4, and having the extra linebacker usually subtracts tackles. He still beats out the 4-3 Ryan, though. Willis also has 4 sacks and two forced fumbles... Not bad for an ILB. And he has 5 pass breakups, not bad. His job is run support, not coverage

Quit making up crap for more votes, I have Jones at left tackle.
Willis only has 8 more solo tackles than Ryans, and Ryans helped his team tremendously to help the Texans to they're best season ever, while the 49ers just plain sucked.
My point is, that with the good secondary in San Fran, and the crappy one in Houston, Ryans had less help with his success, and he was also up against tougher competition, as he had nearly half of his games against what is arguably the best conferance of all time in the AFC South, while Willis had nearly half of his games against the worst conferance in football behind the NF C South with the NFC west.

No, I left Albert Haynesworth off for a reason.
He missed like 10 years.

I could care less what he missed, they lost all the games they played without him.
Colts dont count, they were second stringers.

-No McKinnie at LT...
-Picks do NOT come with players having worse years (Bailey had 10 last year...)
- Haynesworth missed too much time. If I said the BEST PLAYER, yeah, he'd be on there, but I said based on their season.
-Newman was my #3 at corner, and Trufant my #4.

And 901, you have no clue what you are talking about with Willis. Have you seen him play? First off, he is used as a run defender more than pass coverage guy. But he DOES play coverage well. That was one of the big reasons the 49ers took him; his coverage ability.
