Alex Rodriguez and the Yankees have gained approval for a marketing deal tied to his home run milestones, according to a major league official. In the approved agreement, Rodriguez will share in revenue the Yankees generate by marketing his home run milestones. Under the agreement, Rodriguez will receive $6 million when he reaches each of five milestones: the career home run totals of Willie Mays (660), Babe Ruth (714), Henry Aaron (755) and Barry Bonds (762), and when he breaks the record.

Bonds called, he wants to know if they're going to put an asterisk on A-Rod's Hall of Fame plaque when he doesn't win a ring.

Funny how Pay-Rod claims to be a team-guy and all that lately, yet here we are reading about even more personal incentives with dollar signs.

So A-Rod total package with the Yanks will be 305M for 10 Years. Hmm didn't Boras say A-Rod wanted 30M a year?

Wow now the new "Steinbrenners" are now the next Tom Hicks' they are idiots!! The Yankees don't have an ace & they paid A-Rod about what it would take to sign an Ace & then a #2 or #3 starter. Instead of A-Rod getting bonuses for hitting home runs it should have been bonuses similar to what they were going to give to Torre & that is incentives for playoff series' wins, oh wait Pay-Rod only is paid to be good in the regular season!! The Yankees just opened the check book & signed him for 10 yrs that means he will be 42 when he is done...haven't they learned anything about the Giambi, Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, Johnny Damon among others that were paid beyond their productive yrs. No apparently they haven't!! This money could have gone to possibly bringing in some lesser tier players possibly a trade to bring in Joe Crede, maybe they could have traded away Damon, Melky Cabrera, or Cano & got an ace & signed Torii Hunter or possibly Andruw Jones for less yrs & alot less money than Pay-Rod. I think the Yanks could have brought in Livan Hernandez, or Bartolo Colon to be their #3 pitcher & possibly gotten an ace to make Wang the #2 pitcher, & if Pettitte decided to come back this could shift Colon into the #4 slot & Pettitte to the #3 pitcher. The Yankees could have traded Melky Cabrera & Betemit to the Giants for possibly Tim Linnecum, or Noah Lowry!!

I don't know what makes me happier.
The fact the Red Sox didn't sign A-Fraud, or the fact that he is bringing such joy to the denizens of the empire
sorry to rub it in lendaleusc
It's just a plain stupid move.

Do the yankees get a rebate when he goes 0 for 20 in the post season?

November 25, 2007  01:07 PM ET

So much for the Yankees hard line stance. Boras is laughing all the way to the bank, and ended up getting A-Rod at least 30 million per. Another example of setting the bar high, then settling for something a little lower. He got the Mets to bite on Beltran for 119 million after setting the bar at 200 million.

God, I wish I had this guy to negotiate for me. You Boras haters are all fools, living in your altruistic dream world, esp. when it comes to your own teams. How do you know Boras didn't orchestrate this whole thing? Do any of you think A-Rod has this kind of business acumen? He's been with Boras since he was 16 years old and follows his svengali like a little lamb.

Hank Steinbrenner's ego is as big as his daddy's, with a mouth to boot. If this is his version of a hard line, he's nothing but a cream puff.

funny how people think it's a foregone conclusion he will keep hitting at the same level and eventually pass Bonds.
my impression is that far more players with long-term deals have pretty much tanked than have continued to perform at the level that got them the contract.

November 25, 2007  04:28 PM ET

Noah Lowry?? what do we need him for?? He is at best a #3 starter and we got plenty of that caliber pitcher already. And trade Melky for him?? We don't need any crap from the Giants...he'll come over to the AL and get shelled. NL sucks!!

"So A-Rod total package with the Yanks will be 305M for 10 Years. Hmm didn't Boras say A-Rod wanted 30M a year?"

You're assuming these are the only incentives in the deal. I'm betting they aren't the only incentives. These are the incentives which required MLB approval.

November 25, 2007  05:58 PM ET

hes on pace to be the best ever, the best single player, not a team player, the guys a cancer to any club he plays for,

November 25, 2007  05:59 PM ET

Man, A-rod has a "just pumped the neighbors cat" look on his face.

Boras is genius. Seriously folks, he's an amazing agent, way ahead of his time.

November 25, 2007  07:24 PM ET

Larry, you are correct.... All I see is incentives when he breaks home run records.... ALL PERSONAL GOALS (and business goals)... How about giving him $$ when he gets a post-season hit or fine him when he doesnt get a hit... THOSE ARE TEAM GOALS...WHICH COUNT MORE THAN PERSONAL GOALS.... Fine, he can get money for his personal goals, but that doesn't help the team any, NOT ONE BIT.... Would ARod consider returning some of those $$ if he doesn't meet team post-season goals, like in the case of Joe Torre? I think it's fair.....

November 26, 2007  09:04 AM ET

I hate to point this out Yankee haters...ARod had a decent post season. The reason the Yankees lost was because of starting pitching, a swarm of bugs and Jeter not hitting...among others.
