Potential for Kings fire sale
With an NHL-low 40 points, the Kings might be the only team in the league completely out of the playoff picture. With several players in the final year of their contracts, they might unload some players by the Feb. 26 trade deadline. Defensemen Rob Blake, Brad Stuart and Jaroslav Modry and left wing Ladislav Nagy are among the Kings rumored to be on the move.

Maybe the Hurricanes can get Jack Johnson back.

While I can see the upside to gaining the draft picks and prospects they could get for those names, I am a big believer that every team needs SOME veteran leadership and stability. If the Kings dump all those guys - especially if they lose all 3 d-men - next year will be yet another re-building year (not every young team can surprise the way Phoenix has this year), and they'll be looking at another 2/3 years of mediocrity before they see any progress. Having a Rob Blake on a team to tutor your young defenceman is a priceless asset. The Red Wings have used Chelios to break in Lebda, Fisher (when he was playing) and now Kronwall, because playing defence might be the hardest position to make the adjustment to once a player makes the NHL. Having a vet can speed that process along, significantly. I know the Kings are bad, and that they should be sellers at the deadline, but I would say that they should have a bit more discretion in terms of how much dumping they do.

These guys have some good young forwards. They shouldnt try and trade them.Their defense is young. They need help in the goalie position.Huet and Leclaire are UFA's this summer. That should be there immediate goal.

I agree that goaltending should be a priority for them - but they traded Huet away just a couple years ago - will they try to get him back? I still feel like they need to keep SOME veteran leadership to help the babies grow

Raysieve is done in the NHL.Stop trying to trade him for for quality forwards.Toronto will have to package 10 million dollars with Raysieve just to get rid of him.
