Will Nuggets blow up roster?
It appears coach George Karl will be back -- it would be his call to leave -- and Karl said after the Lakers' four-game sweep that his team had taken a "big step forward" with 50 wins, Denver's most since 1984-85. But after five consecutive first-round playoff losses, Denver must address its roster issues. Allen Iverson, pawn in hand, has the first move. The all-star guard can opt out of his contract this June. If Iverson bolts, it would drastically change the team's dynamic. If he stays, the Nuggets must address their glaring needs with Iverson-like tenacity. Starting with more effort at the defensive end. Ron Artest, the splendidly talented defender, could be available, but for what price?

Bing in Artest and the team becomes much better on paper. Camby's an overrated defensive player, but still very good. J.R. Smith off the bench can turn into instant offense and A.I./Melo can score all night long. Bring Artest in and that fills the need of an ace defender/team psycho. If Iverson opts out I would try for a blockbuster deal involving Carmelo. Possibly something having to do with the Chicago Bulls young stars. The team needs to clean up it's act as a whole in order to be competitive in the West.

I really expect more from this talent.....bring in a new coach that demands defense and pick up Artest......then kick LA's butt.

The Hornets want Iverson about as much as you want the AIDS virus. Iverson is nearing the end of his NBA "road".
He was a cancer in Philly, a bad fit in Denver, and a loser in both places. And please don't talk to me about 50 regular season wins. The Nuggets were 44-38 during the 2005-2006 season (the one full season before Iverson arrived). They were 50-32 this year - a mere 6 game improvement.
$20 million (Iverson's salary) is waaaaaayyyy too much to pay just to win 6 more games and suffer first-round exits from the playoffs two years in a row, with but a single playoff game win to show for it all.

This comment is as ignorant as the one who wrote it, obviously a guy who can't play real ball and just plays video games.
the real problem is the cancer more popularly known as George Karl, remove Karl and you remove the tumor.

If they want to win they need to get rid of Melo and add more defensive pieces to even have a chance at getting past the 1st round.
As far as the suggestions to bring in Artes....WHAT??? You've got an already thug heavy team and you want to add the biggest one of all? This is the NBA, not Rucker Park.

Yeah, and I guess Larry Brown and Maurice Cheeks were the "cancer" when Iverson was in Philly. Yep, all the coaches Iverson had are/were idiots. Nothing wrong with A.I. It's the coaches' fault.
"We talkin' 'bout practice man, practice.!!"
Do you have any idea how foolish you sound?
P.S. I don't play video games, but in my day I'm pretty certiain I would have lit you up like a Christmas tree on the b-ball court. I had serious game!!

EastCoast, you hit the nail on the head with that post! Sacramento certainly didn't benefit from having the "fan assaulter" on its roster.

Here we go with another NBA vet traveling around trying to win a championship. Look for Iverson in a Mavs or Magic outfit by career end. They should rip the Nuggets apart and concentrate on the draft. Keep Carmelo and build around him.

The problem with Denver is they are stuck with AI and Melo. AI is getting old but is probably their best player and leader (WOW, cant believe I said that) and Melo is turning into an underachiever.
Try this trade........Melo and K-Mart for Gordon, deng, Gooden
denver AI, gordon, deng, Gooden, and Camby
chi-town Kirk, Hughes, Melo, K-Mart, Noah
Works for both teams

Look I will never question Allen Iversons effort and intensity on the floor, the problem is YOU CAN'T WIN WITH HIM. Allen's game is great for Allen, not a team dynamic. Look how much better the Sixers are without him. Bear in mind, the Sixers have more playoff wins as a team (2) than Allen has had in Denver. The fact is this, you can't win a playoff series, let alone a championship, with a 6-1 SG who plays no man defense and consistently looks for the refs to bail him out when he makes bad plays. In Allen's entire Sixer career, Kyle Korver is the ONLY player who got better playing next to him. Allen dominates the ball too much to ever sustain and good team dynamic and we all know what he feels about practice. Face it A.I. fans, he's a great individual player who will win nothing because his style of play is only good for his numbers, not team success. I believe Allen has nothing but good intentions, he's not a selfish guy, it's just this HIS idea of what it takes to win and not consistent with team success. I'll never forget when he wouldn't come off the bench after returning from injury ("If I aint startin, I ain't playin) but Tim Duncan, a 2-time MVP and Champ at the point, did.

u guys that claim AInever won anything are idiots. Did u see the team that he took to the NBA finals or have u forgotten that. The difference is that team played defense. this teams problem is the lack of defensive effort that comes from Karl not demanding it and Melos selfish play. Can the guy make a layup he is 6'8 strong as an oxe but double clutches ans plays like he is 6'2 in the lane.

Bottom line is that this team didn't get it done-
They have a TON of talent & they have some good role players
The problem is Melo & AI don't play hard on both ends
when your best players don't/can't play D- you don't win in this league

Are you on drugs, or just stupid?
Since when does making it to the finals - and getting blown out when you get there - translate to winning? Since when does a single trip to the finals in your entire 13-year career translate to being a winner.

nfallsfinest. LARRY BROWN took that team to the Finals, not Allen Iverson, sorry to burst your bubble. Allen's individual statistics in Philly were actually BETTER over the next 3 seasons AFTER they went to the Finals, only they didn't make the playoffs twice and were eliminated in the first round. The only difference was that Larry Brown wasn't there anymore for him to ignore. You're a typical Allen Iverson apologist, blame everyone but A.I., while A.I. isn't the only the reason they were swept, he was one of them.

To Dapper Dave, 1st of all alot of great players never win a championship that is agiven. Anyone who follows basketnall knows that. Alot of great players never even make it to the finals.
To Moe Larry Brown needed Iverson as much as AI needed Brown. Neither would have made it without the other. Philly wouldnt have made the playoffs without AI on that roster and Philly would have never made the finals without Brown.
You almost make my point he can win with a good coach , which Karl is not. He dosent run one play there is no motion all the guys do Iso everyplay. And its bad enough that Ai and Melo Iso everyplay with no ball movement but then he has Kenyon Martin and camby doing iot also.
Karl is the main reason this team ws not at least a 4 seed going into the playoffs. He allowed them to play no D. He said his defensive philosophy is to have guys hold their self responsible. That dosent work u have to demand and make guys play defense.
I know Ai was part of the problem but he and JR Smith were the only decent performers for the nuggets in the series.
Get rid of Karl bring someone in who demands these guys to play D and who can actually put 1 offense in place.
