Two-coach race for Knicks job
Posted: Friday May 09, 2008 05:47AM ET
It's a two-horse race. Sources indicated yesterday Knicks president Donnie Walsh is torn on whether to offer the job to the star coach available, Mike D'Antoni, or take a slight gamble on someone with no head-coaching experience, Mark Jackson. Last night Walsh, through a spokesman, emphatically said he has not offered the job to anybody, contrary to a report.

Report Offensive CommentJackson will get a lot more support from at the Garden than any other coach they could hire and he is going to need it for the first year or two.

That is a slam. The roster they have now is not fit for a pig..That will not be the roster for very long anyways. Walsh will turn that whole team over as soon as he can..You do not find a coach to fit the players you have when the players you have are lazy underachieving pathetic losers..That is dumb...That will not be the players the next coach has to deal with..It may take a year, but those guys are going ..

Stop.....lol
NOBODY is a good fit for this current roster- it is HORRIBLE
My only problem with MJ is he has 0 coaching experience on ANY level & we have no idea what his philosophy/scheme will be.....
We can't afford to allow the knicks to IDLE for another 2-3 years....we need the young guys to play in an extablished system, so that when we finally do turn the roster over, the remaining piece (Lee) can have a decent foundation to grow on

Report Offensive CommentSorry the headline should read one gimmick and one announcer race for the next opportunity to get fired from the Knicks.

Report Offensive CommentThis will be a defining moment for the Knicks: To go with someone who has NO head coaching experience or to go with a proven coach. Experience or rookie?
With Jackson they get a current TV commentator/analyst with question marks all around. Of course he'll sell tickets with his feel good past, but he'll be a rookie coach. With D'Antoni they get a current NBA Head Coach with playoff experience. D'Antoni won't need a learning curve like Jackson and will hit the ground running. He won't do many of the mistakes that Jackson will do because he's been through them already.
So the future of the franchise is at stake. Bring in a feel good rookie and sell tickets while you are loosing? Or bring in a true head coach and start winning at least some games now? The team has been floundering forever it seems and it's time to right the ship. Experience is what's needed now.

In order to worry about something, you have to actually know it exists.

AJ is the answer! He can't lose in NY!

Report Offensive CommentD'Antoni will be the quickest fix due to his offense, Jackson is an unknown. Both are a dramatic improvement from Zeke. A.J. will not touch NY. he doesn't want any part of that mess.

Report Offensive CommentRJ I don't think you really meant unfortunately. You see you are a Lakers fan and as such you like Kobe, well maybe not at the start of the season, but now that he is the MVP you and yours can feel good about him again. You can all now say "I always believed in Kobe!" What you actually meant was "fortunately not." You may resume your mindless praise of your Pagan God of selfish basketball.

jpd, I saw this yesterday and I made a mental note of this so I could get back to you. Personally, I knew all along that KOBE had some personality flaws, after all, none of us are perfect. I also knew that he had the best skill set since Air Jordan. TRUST is the operative word here, and he now trusts his teammates. Contrary to what you think, I never wanted to see KOBE traded, as there is no equal value for him. We both know he's going to bring it on offense, like most of the stars in the NBA can. However, as this may be lost upon you, he wants to defend the other team's star. Selfish players don't volunteer for that and he always wants that challenge. For this reason, cease your hate and appreciate.

Report Offensive CommentYou don't hire a coach for this roster; you hire a coach to replace it.
Go with D'Antoni and give him the time and tools necessary to fix this team.

Report Offensive CommentIf I was D'Antoni, I would take the Bulls job. I am a Bulls fan, but putting bias to the side, it would be an easier job to transition into and not be as dysfunctional as NY. The Knicks organization needs an old player to come in and try to right the ship because the city will be more patient with one of their own.
