Is Busch NASCAR's bad man?

Posted: Saturday May 10, 2008 09:41AM ET

For years, fans have complained about NASCAR's stars being too boring, too vanilla and not mixing things up or showing any emotion. There are few aggressive drivers anymore and no colorful characters as in the old days, they complained. Their cries were so loud that NASCAR even vowed to loosen up a bit, allowing drivers to be a bit more aggressive in their actions and a bit more outspoken in their comments. Finally, we have that driver. And what do NASCAR fans do? Complain about him being a dirty, immature driver who needs to be muzzled and throttled. Kyle Busch is exactly the kind of aggressive, hard-charging, win-at-all-costs driver fans have been longing for. He talks a big game, he doesn't back down from anyone, he shows emotion, and he sometimes creates controversy. Yet, when he does, he is vilified.Fans should be happy that they now have a driver who is the opposite of the politically correct robots who permeate the Sprint Cup circuit. If you want to declare Busch the sport's new bad guy and biggest villain, great. The sport desperately needs that.

This is the best article that's been on this site in a long while. Go Kyle

I used to hate this guy but he can back his mouth up with his driving, Truck, Nationwide, Sprint...anything...

Report Offensive Comment

The title to the article is misleading. He isn't a man. He's a boy. A punk too.

Report Offensive Comment

The problem with the article is that the fans wanted Jr. to be this guy.

black and gold.......isnt it great ........his fan base is growing...........he is not one of my faves but ya gotta like the kid....................i also used to hate him but he changed all that..................maybe some day i will be a loyal fan of the kid..........he sure gives you your moneys worth when he gets on the track

The main problem I have with Kyle is that he'll make a comment that he's tired of racing idiot drivers. Some of the moves he makes causing wrecks puts him that catagory of "idiot drivers." He thinks his stuff doesn't stink. If Tony and Kyle weren't on the same team, Tony may be the leading candidate to put him in the fence.

Red Zone Why does this putting a guy in the fenca always come up when someone doesn't like a particular driver? Are you advocating hurting or injuring a driver or would you hope that the encounter with the wall was a soft one. this punting a driver on purpose is dangerous and idiotic.

I agree with Red Zone > the LOP - EAR'D CREEP is a danger to the rest of the drivers,,,he's going to hurt somebody someday,, then lets see your remarks
on that,,which will be "thats racing" = my assss

Nowhere in my post did I defend Kyle or his driving. I merely asked why you were advocating putting a driver in the wall. If Busch or Jr. or Tony does it , it is intentional or accidental but it's not because some putz of a fan encouraged it. Grow up and stop hoping a driver puts another guy in the wall on purpose. This is racing not legalized murder. You should be hoping for a safe race for all involved like the chaplain says before every race. AMEN

Seymore, I always hope for a safe race. The only cautions I would want to see would be for mechanical reasons, not wrecks. However, the racers themselves use the term, "putting them in the fence" and it's a way that racers police themselves. My original thought was that Tony would be the most likely person to bring Kyle down a few notches if he weren't on the same team. While Kyle has won several races this years in different leagues, he hasn't learned when it's not a good time to stick the nose of his ride someplace that won't lead to him wrecking or him wrecking somebody. Just ask Johnny Benson, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Steve Wallace and Brad Keslowski to name a few.

Kyle is just a little too arrogant in respect to other drivers and racing in general!

Kyle Busch a bad man? He looks like Pee Wee Herman. Drives like him, too.

When he runs down the pit crew he'll be the man! Does Danica have insurance?

Report Offensive Comment

I want to know who has complained that the sport has "too many vanilla drivers." This sport has been choking on forced flamboyance for over a decade (what other sport would celebrate a failure like Kenny Wallace?) and anyone who has complained that there are too many "vanilla" drivers is a total idiot. The sport has never needed "colorful characters," it has needed PROFESSIONALS. Kyle Busch doesn't qualify as a professional, just as a thug.

BTW, since Danifraud Patrick got mentioned in this thread, her running over a pit crewman is typical Danica - she had a nasty habit of crashing in the pits or coming out of pitstops last year.

She is a woman driver...You knew it was bound to happen. J/K! You people need to stop all the Kyle hating. He's a good driver who wins races. He just happens to talk smack. I used to like Jr. Heck I still do, sort of, I just don't like his fans anymore...
