Tubby Jones: I don't care what fans think

Posted: Sunday May 11, 2008 08:08AM ET

Since offering to go on a diet with Andruw Jones and getting nowhere with him, I've lost 14 pounds, so I checked in with the Tubbo on Saturday night to see how he was doing on his own. "Have you lost anything?" "I don't care," he said. I shook my head in disbelief, and he said, "I don't care what you think." "Do you care what anyone thinks?" "I don't care," Jones said. Saturday night the fans in Dodger Stadium booed Jones' name when the starting lineup was announced. "Don't you care that the fans in Dodger Stadium have turned on you?" "No," he said. "That's their problem."

Jones is done.

Huge contract demands, huge gut, huge ego, and huge attitude to go along with a .200 batting average. Any takers on that cntract in 2009?

He spoke the truth. He does not care. The guy doesn't bleed Dodger Blue, he bleeds Spare Ribs..

If there's any manager that can guide a player through times of being booed by fans, it's Joe Torre. Here's guessing he'll be fine and become an asset to a team suddenly giving the D-Backs something to actually worry about the NL West.

Slim Fast........it worked for Lasorda.........it'll work for you. Think about it Jones. That's all I ask.

Report Offensive Comment

The problem is Jones is on the Slim Slow diet.

I knew that was going to be a bust for L.A.....getting Jones on a hugely overpaid FA contract.

LOL this reporter is funny. Tubbo.

Jones is a tubbo moron.

Everyone's missing the point here. It's not about his weight, as egregious as it is; it's about his inability to spell his first name properly. This has long been a portent of bad things to come, and like a voice crying int he wilderness, I have been predicting his inevitable fall from grace for some time now. If the excess poundage were the core issue, the Dodgers could just bring in Rikki Lake as a conditioning coach to help him trim down (& share his feelings, too). Oh... & spare me the "valuing diversity" speeches, OK? I don't care how they do things in Curacao -- he's being (grossly over)paid in U.S. dollars to (under)perform for an American franchise, so he can darn-well respect OUR cultural norms, including our spelling conventions. This is what slavish devotion to multiculturalism will get you!

Throughout his career, Jones has always done terrible in contract years.

We get it ...... You're a site spammer for what .....like .30 a pop ?

Jones has already tried "Slim Fast" - He ate 3 months worth of meals, snacks & shakes in 4 weeks ....

Wow. He called him tubbo. Thats some fine journalism.

Jones' weight is his problem. He's the one who will get the health problems, not the fans.

Now his hitting is the Dodgers problem. If he doesn't start hitting, Ethier, Pierre, and Kemp should roam the outfield until Jones proves he deserves to be in the line-up.

I think he spells his name perfectly.

Andruw loves slimfast. He said it goes great with nachos.

If Andruw were hitting .300, I'm fairly certain people wouldn't be that concerned about his weight. He's always been a little on the chunky side but it didn't deter him from covering a lot of ground in center and throwing up some outstanding power numbers. Jones' ever-present lack of plate discipline is the real concern, not a predilection for nachos.
