Michigan, State on OU QB's list

Quarterback Keith Nichol, who announced his transfer from Oklahoma on Friday, told the Free Press on Saturday he has no idea and has not been contacted, mostly because he doesn't have his release from OU. He is not ruling out any schools, but said Michigan State -- which he made an oral commitment to in high school before switching and signing with Oklahoma -- and Michigan are possibilities.

Report Offensive CommentMichigan is a bad choice, since they already have two very good recruits coming in next year. State wouldn't be the worst situation, as I think (hope) they are finally on the verge of actually turning it around. After the year on the sideline, I think he will realize his best bet would have been to work his butt off and make it in OU...

Report Offensive CommentHe will probably go to Michigan State, since he did commit there originally out of high school.

Report Offensive CommentSome directional Michigan.

Report Offensive CommentShould go to State, he did make a verbal commit to them. With the latest oral commits RR has received from a couple of QB's for next year going there would not be a wise choice.

Report Offensive CommentYeah, UCLA would be a good fit probably but he probably wants to go closer to home so I would try UM if Nichol thinks that offense is a good fit.

Report Offensive CommentI really don't get why some of us are ruling out Michigan. Beaver and Newsome (providing they sign their letters of intent) are unproven and Nichol could very easily start next year.

Report Offensive CommentBiminator: Make it work at OU? Bradford played lights out last season. No way Stoops was going to put Nichol in over Bradford after a year like that. Plus with Landry Jones sitting behind Nichol even if he took the redshirt there is no guarantee he would have started when Bradford left.
It makes all the sense in the world for Nichol to leave. Actually, it would have made better sense if he stayed away from Oklahoma in the first place.

Report Offensive CommentOU was a good big school option. On the roster, at the time, was an unproven Bradford and the journeyman Halzle.
last year, Bradford blew the lid off and Jones committed. Circumstance.

Report Offensive CommentI concur with biminator. It is foolish to transfer. He needed to redshirt and stick around. You never know what's going to happen. A few years ago, a guy named Tommy Grady who picked OU over USC and UCLA among others. He transferred to Utah because he was frustrated with the queue at QB. He was behind a guy named Rhett Bomar who performed relatively well for a true freshman in 2005. Long story short -Bomargate, Paul Thompson switching from WR to QB, Grady on the bench at Utah. Best of luck to Nichol, but he's foolish to transfer. It's better to work at being a great backup, maybe starting in a couple years.
Another story...there was this guy named Tom Brady who was a career backup until his senior year at Michigan...
