Garcia may hold out on Bucs

Posted: Thursday May 15, 2008 07:57AM ET

Jeff Garcia knows what his addition meant to the Buccaneers last season. He's beginning to wonder whether the Bucs have forgotten. Garcia, 38, wants a contract extension to the two-year $15 million free-agent deal he signed in March 2007. He believes his numbers (64 percent completions, 2,440 yards, 13 touchdowns, 4 interceptions, 94.6 rating) warrant one. Garcia did not rule out the possibility of making a statement when the time comes to report for training camp July 25.

It's Not!

It'd be a real shame if the Bucs let this guy go. Besides his obvious contributions as QB last year, he's invaluable as a mentor to the thirty-seven other QBs on the roster.

He was an outcast at one time and the bucs gave him a new beginning... this will be a huge mistake. He is not as important as he thinks. Didn't philly teach him anything?

38 years old and demanding an extension??!! priceless...

Report Offensive Comment

He has always been under appreciated.

Good thing the Bucks have 250,123 other QB's

Hey Jeff, come to Minnesota. We won't pay you that much either, but we'll appreciate you!

Go Vikings!

Report Offensive Comment

Would be a mistake if the Bucs didn't keep Garcia, he did get them into the Playoffs and he is 38, that is a good sign for a QB that age.

Report Offensive Comment

why do these guys sign contracts if they aren't going to stick to them?

Report Offensive Comment

It's a strange world when a guy who is 38 that nobody else wanted is thinking about holding out a year after nobody wanted him. If I was the Bucs I'd let him hold out and fine him. How many years does he thinks he has left? I think Garcia has been underappreciated throughout much of his career, but now is not the time to holdout.

Report Offensive Comment

great news, now the Bucs can get a REAL QB, please not another poser...

Report Offensive Comment

No, Jeff Garcia me boy, don't come to Minnesota. Jackson will kick your statistical butt this year no matter where you end up playing (Arena ball?), and everyone knows the Vikings will win the Central, and more. Guaranteed.

Report Offensive Comment

If they give him anything more then they already have, they're stupid. He's under contract untill he's 40 so if he decides to hold out they can just hold on to him untill his NFL years expire, just ask Jake Plummer.

Report Offensive Comment

Also Jackson won't be in the top 75% of starting QB's again this year, Last year he was throwing against 3 man secondaries and he put up horrible numbers what reason do have to think they will get better? And no Berrian is not the second coming of Cris Carter so don't give me that crap.

13 Tds? 38 years old and a "system" QB? Sounds like he deserves a 4 year extension. Good luck cashing in.

Report Offensive Comment

Those poultry number that you put up last year doesn't cut it Jeff. The only resaon you were signed was because Simms couldn't start and our defense carried this team to the playoffs not you. I rather see McCown given a chance instead of wasting money on a guy that should have followed Farve out the door

Report Offensive Comment

He is a good locker room presence but come on man, you got to keep it real. At 38, he's like to have a job.

Report Offensive Comment

How's the "beard" working for ya Jeffy?

Report Offensive Comment

Yo Chucky......

Call Brett...check if he is retired for real...

True & Funny; just because they give him the extension, means nothing in the NFL. it is all about the upfront money.

He signed a contract (worth millions) to play for 2 years. It's sad how worthless these documents are in sports these days. Places like west virginia, tampa bay, and anywhere else there are star athletes and coaches suffer because this is allowed.
