Randolph's Mets future in doubt

Posted: Friday May 16, 2008 05:33AM ET

Willie Randolph is in big trouble. That cannot be ignored any more. He was booed off the field making a pitching change yesterday - the second consecutive day Shea fans let him know what they think of his performance. If the problem for Randolph were quarantined in the stands, however, he would be fine. But he is presiding over unease in the clubhouse, sloppiness on the field and what sure plays publicly as too much indifference by too many players. Most dangerous to Randolph now is that he lacks a true ally in either the clubhouse or the front office at a time when upper management is paying more in payroll than ever, propping up a still infant TV network and footing most of the bill for a stadium springing up beyond the Shea outfield wall.

Wasn't this headline from LAST year...?

The Mets suck. No matter who manages them.

I hope this thread turns into a good, old-fashioned, Mets fan vs Phillies fan cripple fight!

Report Offensive Comment

You think???!!! After their mess at the end of the season and they way they are playing after spending so much money... unless he can turn this around and win the division.. "next"!

Report Offensive Comment

should I get the popcorn now, or wait till later?

Report Offensive Comment

Mets blow. They may possibly make some sort of run during the summer, but will soon self implode. The fans are right to boo this clown. They should also boo themselves for being dumb enough to root for the Muts

Willie should have been fired at the end of last season after gift wrapping and handing the Sillies the division. His "everything is fine" and "we've put last year behind us" attitude is wearing thin.

Of course, the Sillies took the gift and immediately slammed it into a tree by getting swept by the Rockies......

Fans and front office getting impatient and it's only May...

You guys would have done the same thing...get over yourself.

Willie and HoJo both need to go. The season is, unless they make a dramatic turnaround, a loss anyway. No way they'll keep pace with Philly, and (My god) the Marlins with a team batting average of .230.

I hate to lay all of the blame for poor play on a manager, but something has to change, and in situations like this, the change has to start at the managerial level.

What a waste of tallent.

Report Offensive Comment

The season is a loss? It's friggin May. The Yankees were 3 games under .500 after something like 60 games. So first of all - Met fans are over-reacting because it's just May - and then - people tell us our season is lost - in MAY. Amazing the double standard you all seem to adhere to.

Report Offensive Comment

It should be in doubt.
The team is apathetic and underachieving & the players don't seem to want to win for him

It is CERTAINLY NOT all his fault, but he is the captain of the ship

Results are what matter-
his team has possibly the worst reg season collapse last year & the hangover is still there.

Report Offensive Comment

Agreed on the hangover from last season. It wasn't mathematically the worst regular season collapse in history, nor the worst overall, as the 2004 ALCS ranks up there.

But this is still hanging over their heads. New blood needs to be injected into this team, and if this year is lost, then I look forward to the departure of the likes of Delgado, El Duque, Oliver Perez, and unfortunately Aaron Heilman - who has become a joke.

Unless you're talking about the 16-25 Detroit Tigers....I'm really not sure where you're going with that. Likely nowhere - where baseball knowledge goes to die.

Troy, I tend to agree with you most of the time which pains me as a mets fan. But arent the phillies like a game ahead? If the mets were overrated, then you could say the same about the Phils right? On another note, Randolph can't get fired fast enough. Last year, manual goes on a tirade and the Phils wake up. Randolph would need his house to catch fire to get that mad.

Arent the Yanks in last?

Report Offensive Comment

Most "experts" had the Mets going to and wining the WS. So yes, they are overrated. The tigers are too, but I think people went a little overboard when they got a 15 game winner and crowned them the champs.

Report Offensive Comment

Yes, they are. But then again, they didn't pay $137 million for Santana. The Mets did and are under .500.'
The Yanks are only a few games out. They were in worse shape last year.
