Timonen's blood clot in check

Doctors had warned Kimmo Timonen that there was no way of knowing how long the blood clot in his left ankle could sideline him, just that he would likely miss the remainder of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Never did the Philadelphia Flyers All-Star defenseman expect that, a week later, a follow-up visit would produce the possibility that he could return for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final. Timonen skated on his own for 35 minutes Friday, and his playing status will be evaluated after he practices with his Flyers teammates today.

Good news. They looked great last game without Kimmo and Braydon, now they might have both back. The Pens are still tough, but if these 2 were healthy from the start the Flyers clearly would be winning this series.

Clearly? How so? It's better and more convincing when you site examples and reference specific events that would have been different had they been there.

Otherwise no one cares.

As a Flyers fan, I'd love to speculate that the Flyers would be ahead, but, the obvious reality of the situation is that they're not. Either way, the Penguins are going to have to be on their game on Sunday, because they will be playing the Flyer team that can really do (and did) some serious damage to higher seeded teams. As long as officiating is fair (I have personal opinions about the officiating in this series, but will leave them out, as that is stuff that you just need to overcome as a team)
I think it is going to be a great game to watch...GO FLYERS!

May 17, 2008  11:37 AM ET

Game 5 will be key. If the Flyers can pull out a win and bring it back to Philly for game 6 I think we will be looking at an upset for the Pens. Go Flyers!!!

May 17, 2008  01:02 PM ET

Unfortunately it's a case of too little too late.
However...Since the 3 & 0 deficit has only been overcome on 2 occaisions...it should be noted that the 2 teams that gave it up...were both Detroit and The Penguins.

May 17, 2008  01:13 PM ET

I guess it's a good thing that the Flyers are known for upsets, and perseverance... Like I said it will be a great game to watch.

I do agree with Phillydave. If the Flyers can pull it off on Sunday, there will be a game 7

May 17, 2008  03:20 PM ET

It would be awesome if they were to pull off THE UPSET,but in all reality they're done. Pittsburgh has TWO top 5 talents in their line-up. Their centers are SCARY!! Crosby,Malkin, and Staal are too good to let that happen.

If you think we're done, keep dreaming. When (not if),we win,on Sunday,we will gain the momentum to take this series.
I give credit when due,but the Flyers have got them looking over their shoulders now. They're scared shiitless-Malkin and Crosby.

Not in the faceoff circle bostongm.
Unless you count how Therrien feels watching the draws...although it is tough to see with his hands over his eyes. I've often wondered who he is silently talking to seeing his lips moving at times like that.

Clearly? The Flyers would clearly be winning the series? This dude wouldn't be a Flyers fan by any chance, would he? Clearly, he says!

At least some of the other hopefuls are saying "if"! But "clearly?"

no matter what happens if the flyers loose tmr i still we be proud of what this team has done in a year dead last to comferance finals hmm good job boys lets take the game tmr and then the series lets go flyers

May 17, 2008  09:12 PM ET

Yes...you should be proud there gags. Some Philly fans dont see it that way though. Your team accomplished alot in ONE year. Win or lose...i tip my cap to the Flyers.

the flyers WILL NOT i repeat WILL NOT win on sunday. game. set. match.

May 18, 2008  01:13 PM ET

Might as well not even play then.

May 18, 2008  10:50 PM ET

Turns out you were right Orange and Black...what a pitiful display by Philly. Absolutely no heart, and proof the Pens just wanted to clinch at home. Your boys got played like lego.

I know this is after-the-fact but it is good news.
