Grizzlies face draft dilemma
Posted: Monday May 19, 2008 07:06AM ET
The Grizzlies have a much greater roster need for power forward Michael Beasley than hometown hero and point guard Derrick Rose, who could help draw more than 5,000 fans a game. The Grizzlies just finished 29th in attendance, and Rose just led the Memphis Tigers, the popular basketball team in town, to the Final Four.

Yeah, why not draft Rose. They only have 3 PGs on the roster already. That idiot Chris Wallace gave away Pau Gasol for nothing at all. This would just be the latest dumb move by him.

Report Offensive CommentFirst they have to get the #1 pick and then I see them trading one or 2 of there current PG's. And don't forget Conley was a high pick last year for them.
The chase is for Beasley right now.

Report Offensive CommentRight, it's all moot until the lottery anyways.

Report Offensive CommentDizzy.. I think the Grizzlies' lottery pick in exchange for Mbenga, Coby Karl, and Ira Newble sounds fair. Don't you? Somebody get Chris Wallace on the phone.

Report Offensive CommentThe NBA draft is tomorrow so reading about who the Heat or Grizzlies will draft will the number 1 or 2 pick is pointless.

Report Offensive CommentSorry, I mean to say the NBA lottery is tomorrow.

Report Offensive CommentLet the lottery happen before you start worrying about "dilemmas". Also, trade Kwame Brown ASAP. That will help too..
jj730 | 05/19/08, 09:44 AM
Report Offensive CommentYou're not guaranteed the top pick. As far as attendance goes, if you put a winner on the floor, you'd be surprised how much attendance will go up. Stupid trades like Kwame Brown for your best player probably will not help the cause. Even with Rose, as soon as the novelty wears off, the fans will go back home.

Report Offensive CommentThis is completely pointless unless the Grizz win the lottery. But let's say they win. They are loaded at the point guard position. It would be counter-intuitive to draft a player like Rose one year after drafting Mike Conley from Ohio State. Conley is eminently capable of leading this team. Another flaw in the argument is that Mike Beasley could draw larger attendance numbers as well!!! Are we to assume that the Memphis Grizzlies marketing staff is so unintelligent that it couldn't find a way to draw fans to see perhaps the best freshman talent in NCAA history (by statistical qualification, anyway). Let's give the Grizz management the benefit of the doubt. The Gasol trade was a smart move in the long run. They now have enough liquid assets to pick up a solid draft pick and some veterans to bolster the talented Conley-Gay-Miller tandem. They need a big man. They need Beasley.
pantherfan0728 | 05/19/08, 10:29 AM
Report Offensive CommentWith Conley, Lowry, and Navarro the last thing this team needs is another point guard. There is no dilemna. It's called draft Beasley if you have the number one pick and move on.

Report Offensive CommentI tend to agree with VP. You must establish dominance in the middle if possible. Remember where you heard it --Lopez could very well be the best pick in this draft.

Report Offensive CommentLet's see who would we rther give away in a "trade" in a few years?

Report Offensive CommentIf there is a such thing as karma, the Griz will get the last pick in the lottery. Fortune should not reward the stupid - and no - no other bottom feeder team has been quite as stupid as the Griz.
