Steinbrenner on Cashman's future

Posted: Tuesday May 20, 2008 07:54AM ET

Not long ago, a humbling weekend for a stumbling Yankees team could have provoked the principal owner, George Steinbrenner, into criticizing the manager. Times have changed, but only to a point. Hank Steinbrenner, who is co-chairman of the Yankees with his brother, Hal, praised Manager Joe Girardi in a wide-ranging telephone interview on Monday. But with the last-place Yankees sputtering along at 20-24, the architect of the team, General Manager Brian Cashman, received only measured support..."If Brian wants to be the G.M. next year, there's a chance he will be," Steinbrenner said.

It's Not!

The sooner Cashman realizes his days with the Yankees are numbered is a blessing in disguise, the sooner he will be a happy human being.

they need to start being more specific which steinbrenner said this. I propose steinbrenner to mean George and anything from Hank be designated as Lil' Stein.

Man what a disaster.....

The Yanks gets swept in a rain-shortened Subway series.....

They get beat by the guy they didn't trade Kennedy (0 wins), and Hughes (0 wins) for....

Another pitcher they got outbid for, Dice-K, won his AL League leading 7th game...

Lester throws a No Hitter....

Cashman get your resume updated and out there....

I despise the Yankees, but give Cashman a little credit. He has reinvigorated the farm system, and the jury is still out on talent such as Hughes, Joba and some of the others.

However, he has to answer for not making the Santana trade, and several free agent signings that just haven't gone well. Carl Pavano, anyone?

All in all, it boils down to this; Who is going to replace him?

Hankie had the final call on the Santana trade. He got pissed of at Minnesota asking for too much and said no. So it's really on him.

Let's just hijack this one.

Hijack accomplished!! But I gotta run for a bit... take charge!:)

Report Offensive Comment

ok, consider it hijacked...hyper, how do you think his arm will be after throwing so many pitches? I have concerns after what happened with Buch last year.

Report Offensive Comment

Congrats to this kid. Great story.

Report Offensive Comment

RSB, it's a good point. A lot of docs think that the biggest threat to a young pitcher's arm isn't innings/season, but the occasional big-pitch game. Kerry Wood got overused a few times in college, and a lot of people think that was his undoing.

But for every one of those, there's a Dice-K who threw 300 pitches a day and seems fine.

I think there were enough "Red Sox" threads last season to cover this year...How many **** stories on the "Gyro Ball" did we have to suffer through? Or how many Curt "Cry me a river" Schilling stories?

Dismissed...

Report Offensive Comment

Great story, Congrats to Lester.

AS bad as it seems today, and all the indicators are negative, the Yanks are just not as bad as the bad highlights. Indicators do not yet "prove" that Cashman made the wrong decisions. The leasons of history need to wait for the final chapter to be written, and historically the last chapter is never written, time marches on. But the Judgement on Cash will have to wait, as easy as it may be today to question some moves.
