Penn State lands big lineman
Posted: Thursday July 03, 2008 06:11AM ET
Penn State has landed its 13th recruit for 2009, but the first from the WPIAL. Adam Gress, a 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive lineman from West Mifflin High School, made a verbal commitment to Penn State yesterday. His other top choice was West Virginia, and his other scholarship offers were from Michigan, Rutgers, Central Florida and Mid-American Conference schools. Gress' stock with colleges has been on the rise in recent months because he has grown so much. He played last season at 240 pounds but has added 50 pounds since.

Report Offensive Comment50 pounds at that age isnt too much of a stretch, you see it all the time when a guy gets redshirted and then comes in to camp the next year huge. Must have hit a growth spurt and gotten serious in the weight room

Report Offensive CommentWatch out for Lions this year. As weak as the Big Ten has been in the past few years this year is not an exception. Despite the loss of some key defensive players, the Lions have a healthy group of receivers an upper class offensive defensive line and a young (but unproven) quarterback who could display flashes of Michael Robinson type skill. Not saying they are going to run the gambit but the Lions will be a tough out for any opponent this year.

Report Offensive Comment50lbs in a year? Get real, the kid is on something! I don't care how much time is spent in the weight room!

Report Offensive CommentLove the picture of JoePud! He loks like he is trying to explain away another PSU player arrest as a "boys will be boys" excuse.

Report Offensive CommentQuiet down non-athletes. I am 6' tall, and I was able to add 40 lbs between my junior and senior years without synthetic help. Furthermore, that was 18 years ago, when much less was known about proper nutrition and iron pumping (or at least I knew much less about them). Serious eating + serious lifting + large frame + teenager = +50lbs easily and cleanly.

Report Offensive CommentI wonder if JoPa even knows who is on his team anymore? I wonder how many times he walks around practice asking who recruited this bum just to have one of the assitants remind it that he did

Report Offensive CommentMikrang 07, yeah I do.....Michigan is going to stink the next few years while RR tries to get his players in there........OSU has one of the best D's in the country this year, then after this year Terelle Pryor takes over there............I dont think PSU will compete for a Big 10 Title for a few years..............

I love Ohio State fans because no matter how good they actually are or can be, their fans are sure to assume they will be even better. First off, Ohio State has without a doubt been the class of the Big Ten Conference for the past 5 years...no argument there. But to assume that Ohio State will win the Big Ten Conference 5 years in row...without someone so much as competing for at least a share of the title is irrational. Then again, this is an Ohio State fan, so I should assume such level of thinking. Furthermore, if Terelle Pryor lives up to be what everyone anticipates him being...good luck keeping him at Ohio State for more than 2 years. So, you will get no argument from me when you tell me how dominate Ohio State has been and how good they are...cause they are...but to anticipate a 5 year run of consecutive conference championships is foolish - even for an Ohio State fan.

Report Offensive CommentGee, this is in Pittsburgh, the recruiting ground that Paterno was suppose to have lost to - wait a minute, don't say it - Dave Wannstedt, who, by golly, lives and works in - wait a minute, don't say it - Pittsburgh. Please note that the article is authored by "local dispatches."

Report Offensive CommentIm saying a few years....Whether it is 5 or not, remains to be seen...Im not an OSU fan, but a college football fan in general......I just dont see anyone as strong as them for the next few years, so for arguments sake, I will say 3-5 years till PSU can compete for the conference, and by that time, RR will have Michigan up there as well.......
chrisg | 07/03/08, 02:57 PM
Report Offensive CommentOh, and chances are Pryor will be there all 4 years considering he is not even starting this year....No way he leaves for the NFL after being the starter for one full year.
