Red Bulls seek defender, striker

They are not signed or sealed, but they have been delivered to the Red Bulls. Venezuelan international midfielder Jorge Rojas and Argentine defensive midfielder Juan Martin Pietravallo have joined the club to practice until their transfer is completed. That cannot happen until July15 at the earliest, when the MLS summer transfer window opens. The Red Bulls still need a visa and league approval for both players. Coach Juan Carlos Osorio left little doubt that he got two of the players he wanted - an attacking midfielder and a defensive one. He hopes to add a central defender and a striker.

i still stand by on my opinion of Conde off to NY

- Fire trade Conde + D.Picks to TFC for allocation spot
- TFC trades conde for D.Picks + Jozy Allocation

the Fire get BMB (which they want), RBNJ get Conde (which both parties want), and TFC get a slew of early D.Picks and allocation money to bring in a quality player along side their DP when they use it.....

ironically, i originally stated that TFC had few cards to play in the whole BMB thing, but in all honesty, this could drastically improve them more then either other team in the triangle trade.... TFC has a chance of not only picking up a few quality players, but also having their choices at early picks in the super draft... all in all i think TFC may make out like bandits in this

I like it Otegod! TFC could end up with an even better team next year and NY could get stronger too. This is only going to make the "Beast" conference ever better. Nice work Otergod.

That is a pretty good proposal there Otergod.

Loss to Crystal Palace Baltimore...
NYRB are just a plain ol' super-pathetic club. That's got to be embarrassing losing to a 3 Tier team. No wonder Reyna is too "injured" to come back.

July 3, 2008  11:10 AM ET

D-Wreck I agree they are pathetic... I just could not believe that they lost to a Tier 3 team.. Horrible. And Reyna, he has been the worst DP signing ever.

July 3, 2008  11:13 AM ET

RMADRID, amen in reference to Reyna being the WORST DP signing ever. BUT THAT WAS ARENAS MOVE REMEMBER!!!

July 3, 2008  11:15 AM ET

He wanted that big headed pelotudo on the team -- Arenas is garbage too. Yes I must admit makes me sick to think we lost to so called amateur team - that tells you the state of the team!

Questions: Other leagues have a limit on foreign each team can have , is there such rule in MLS? I know we are made of immigrants but damn, this guy Osorio wants the whole team to be made up of South Americans...whats up with that!?

July 3, 2008  11:16 AM ET

@ D-Wreck:

while i enjoy taking a stab at RBNJ, i have to make a point thats very popular... the reserves of most MLS teams are weak... equal if not weaker to USL teams.... mainly due to the fact that alot of decent/good players refuse the DEV contracts MLS throws at them and looks else where....not to mention that the USL teams play and practice together... they have chemistry, where as a bunch of reserves players do not... these are not good excuses to why RBNJ lost to a USL-2 team, but they are reasons for their weak performance...

if anything JCO is to blame for putting such a weak team together.... you should never underestimate your opponent in the USL.... altho the Fire put together a reserves side, i see the fire's depth quite good.... with the likes of Marmol, Frankowski, Carr, Nyarko and King getting solid minutes... but we also started Rolfe and Barrett, probably to secure some form of stability....

im pretty sure NE Revs put out a reserves side, but Nicol has an excellent eye for talent... his reserves can come in on a regular MLS game and make a difference (which they have this season)...

not sure about CUSA, DCU, Hou, or FCD tho.....

July 3, 2008  11:18 AM ET

Very true.. I is the man... And that is why Arena is jobless!!!!

I is the man- the MLS sides are allowed 8 intl' roster spots..... of course dual citizen players do not count towards it... i dont think Soumare counts towards the intl' spot (esp. since he's Gen. Adidas).... but there are other Loop holes, but im not sure what they are.... but the number on the entire roster is 8

July 3, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Osorio needs a attacking mid, a defensive mid, a central defender, a golie and also a COACH!

July 3, 2008  11:21 AM ET

Appreciate it Otergod,

July 3, 2008  11:22 AM ET

JCO has thinned your roster all season and promised signings.... he's finally pulling through on some of them.... it'll be interesting to see how RBNJ does after this window.... but IMO JCO seems a bit too defensive minded.... he's going to need a player to play Attacking Mid to the extreme....

July 3, 2008  11:23 AM ET

Soon we will have even less local grown talent -- this is exactly what's happening in England and why they are not competitive anymore with the influx of foreign players in EPL and the lower leagues ...sad but true.

July 3, 2008  11:29 AM ET

eh i dont see that happening.... the league and the USSF is flooding the States with money for the academies.... whats going to happen is you will start to see a very diverse local talent grow.... with every influence in this country from england, to Japan, to Mexico, etc.... just look at our youth squads, they are becoming more diverse every game.... not to mention alot of our youth get picked up abroad so we dont necessarily hear from them....

but with NE picking up Manzonelli, we're bound to hear more about him... he's being called up the the U20 friendly against Mexico... with fellow MLSers as Josh Lambo, Anthony Wallace, Brek Shea and Jorge Flores.....

My Red Bull only needs a little bit of Jager

July 3, 2008  02:53 PM ET

shouldnt your Jager only need a little bit of Redbull??

July 3, 2008  05:18 PM ET

Very funny stuff! I personally can't stand Jager.... Though the buzz is different... Anyhow, Otergod is totally right on the USSF development program... Very good indeed. I predict that in fact it is so good that the next USMNT WC squad may only have 3-5 domestic players which makes our team more like say Brazil with iour very best playing in the better leagues...Still, I am concerned that the Nat'l team coaches seem to think that leagues in Scandanavia are better than the MLS, when that is hardly the case. Too many of our players are playing in inferior Scandanavian leagues or even Austria rather than the MLS. I don't see this as a "step up" from the MLS...

The youth program in England, however, is in deep trouble.
