Favre a perfect fit for Vikings?
Posted: Sunday July 06, 2008 08:09AM ET
Let's summarize all the reports and rumors flying around: Brett Favre "itching" to play. Packers cool to the idea. Favre talks to head coach about possible return. Packers cool to the idea. Favre asks for release. Packers cool to the idea. What does this tell us, other than the Packers are really cool? It says a hall of fame quarterback could be seeking short-term employment on the open market. Let's say that, somehow, Favre secures his release. It isn't a stretch to say he would look to sign with a team just a veteran quarterback away from the Super Bowl. Yeah, yeah, go ahead and snort. But think about it. Your very own Minnesota Vikings are the perfect fit for Favre, who would want to win immediately. No other team comes close, except the Packers, and they don't want him. Imagine, the Vikings really would be Super Bowl favorites. Plus, Tarvaris Jackson could learn from the best for a year or two. And Zygi Wilf could rev up the bulldozers. He would be the area's man of the year for working so diligently toward bringing a championship to Minnesota.

this may well happen (the vikings are basically the only option apart from the packers)

Report Offensive CommentStop it already! The Pack isn't going to make its cross-border rival a Super Bowl contender.
Writer: I'm lazy; it's the 4th of July weekend. How do I get a quick, snappy article out there? Hmmm, how about Favre to the Vikes! that's the ticket!

Report Offensive CommentThe real story here is that even the home town Vikings papers do not think Jackson is much of a quarterback....They could be right.

Report Offensive CommentNo way the Packers release him to a conference opponent. At some point I hope a veteran sits him down and tells him what will happen to his reputation if he does decide to come back. So much to lose, just to play another year.

Report Offensive CommentThis is so stupid. Well not for a paper from Minnesota where everyone claims to be "Minnesota Nice". Well by living there for a year I found they were Minnesota stuck up and rude jerks who dont know how to drive, cheer for a professional teams because they're are severe fair weather fans if you even can call them fans. They can even get enough fan support to have a tax to help pay for a stadium or even have enough fans to buy tickets for games so corporations have to buy tickets just so the games would be on tv. Real great place to play. Dumb article. Barry Sanders is going to the Vikings along with Jerry Rice, Shannon Sharpe, Deon Sanders, and Dick Butkis

Amen. Although that sage and astute judge of talent, Dr. Z., says that the Vikings are going to the Super Bowl. He has a feeling!!
I have a feeling that the last night's fish is going to the garbage wrapped in the sports section of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Of course! "It's a perfect fit!" Burp!
How was your 4th, 50year?? I got some great rodeo shots, so mine was good!!

Former writer: I actually take my job and my responsibility to the readers seriously. How do I keep Vikings fans informed about what's really relevant to the future of their team? Hmmm, how about telling them that Zygi Wilf would give every Vikes fan's left nut to move the team into a new stadium in L.A.???
What, the boss wants to see me? For what? FIRED??? What the hell for? What do you mean this is entertainment, not journalism?? This is the St. Paul Pioneer Press, isn't it? What do mean that's a stupid question??

You're right, Hussein. But it doesn't matter. The Bears have Grossman and Orton.
What more could they need, other than a new GM and Pres.??

Report Offensive CommentThe guy who wrote this got a ton of HATE mail from Vikes fans when this came out a couple of days ago. No way will that guy(although I respect what he did, Hate him as a Packer) wears our purple and gold.

Report Offensive CommentStay in Green Bay with the rest of the morons, the Vikings already had a QB who would throw a lot of touchdowns and then toss interceptions with the game on the line in Daunte Culpepper.
Real Viking fans would never want our greatest rival to wear purple and gold.
Oh, and Green Bay did offer Culpepper a contract which he turned down so that just goes to show how good they are at evaluating QB's.

Report Offensive CommentWhile I'm geting sick of these Brett Fah-vre stories, I don't see him going to a team in the same division as the Packers. You wanna see a city initiate a Fah-vre jersey bonfire? Let him become Viking and see how long it takes.
Fah-vre's ego won't let him stay away. He's a god to ESPN and he wants his highlights. It's all a show.
