How Martin's deal helps Truex

Mark Martin's new deal with Hendrick Motorsports will make it much easier for DEI to re-sign #1-Martin Truex Jr. Early Sunday morning, sources close to Truex Jr. said Martin's release from the team at the end of the 2009 season would free up more than $8 million dollars. That money now appears to be spearheaded for Truex Jr.

But, only IF he decides to stay with whats looking more and more like a sinking ship.

Signing him will be the only way they will be able to sell the team, otherwise they have a team of unproven drivers.

July 8, 2008  08:13 AM ET

I wish he had been going to Haas CNC with Stewart instead of Newman. Maybe he'll land in a JRM ride if that team moves to Cup next year. Anything but re-signing with DEI at this point.

nin-man I agree I also wish it would have been him instead of Newman.. I just hope he gets smart and leaves TEI before Teresa brings it any farther down!!!!!

An $8 million dollar raise can do wonders

July 8, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Excelllent news, I really hope they are able to keep him and produce a winner. He has the talent, now al he needs is the equipment.

Why couldn't he have gone to Hendrick......

July 8, 2008  09:07 AM ET

He'll keep quiet 'til the end of the season. He doesn't want his engines to start blowing up.

July 8, 2008  09:17 AM ET

Boy, you hit the nail on the head there Yoohoo. Jr. started talking and he hardly made it out of the hauler and his engines started blowing!!!!

July 8, 2008  09:36 AM ET

Not to change the subject, but just read.

Tony Stewart is expected to announce a 2009 move to Haas-CNC Racing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in three weeks. Reliable sources tell Sirius Speedway that Stewart will also announce sponsorship from Office Depot and Old Spice as part of a new, multi-year package with Haas CNC, and that Penske Racing???s Ryan Newman will join him as a teammate, with sponsorship from Jack Daniels.

CRAP!!!! NOT NEWMAN! I like Tony Stewart and am really glad Holmes Depot is stickin with him. Newman ha proven he is an average driver and Tony should be putting friendship aside and getting the best driver for the job. Picking up a fresh face out of the Nationwide series and grooming him would have been the best move. Keselowski, Gale, or even Logano would have been a better fit rather than settling for someone who has a proven hard time getting the job done. Not to mention it would be cheaper and that money can be used for R&D. Just got to break the Hendrick tentacles and all will be well.

July 8, 2008  09:52 AM ET

Neg Inc; I would bet Logano and Keselowski and all the good young guys are already under contract to owners. They still have a little loyalty and greed has not corrupted them YET. This whole thing is turning into a cesspool of greed.
I agree with you Jr. started all of this when he was in kindergarten LOL

Please learn to read. Home Depot is not sticking with him.

As for how the rest of the dominoes fall.

Newman joins Tony at Hass-CNC racing.

Truex Jr to the Penske 12 car.

Lagano to the 20 car with home Deport.

This would leave the best rides available the 33 car (new RCR car) I think Soctt Wimmer would be in this ride, possibly it could be Ruttieman as well.

The 1 car is still open, but without sponsorship. The 01 car also lacks sponsorship as could the 8 car. Almirola is in the 8 full time, but with any backing? Bobby Labonte will be in the 43 car, but will it have a sponsor in 2009?

Right now I think the Army needs to stay on the 8 car. I don't see a team with a young driver needing sponsorship.

Thanks for pointing that out, **** very much!

That picture makes Truex look like a new member of the Backstreet Boys. He needs the shades and tough guy goatee to pull off the driver image.
