Rahman claims Toney loss 'bogus'

Hasim Rahman left Pechanga Casino in Temecula, Calif., Wednesday night believing he suffered a "ridiculous" loss to fellow heavyweight James Toney. "It's bogus," Rahman said. Rahman, 35, said before the fight that if he lost he would retire. But after the bout, the two-time world heavyweight champion said he would fight again. Toney was declared the winner before the start of the fourth round. After the third round ended, Dr. Paul Wallace examined a cut above Rahman's left eye and said the fight should be stopped, according to Marshall Kauffman, Rahman's trainer. The cut was caused by an accidental head butt in the third. "I heard the doctor tell the referee the fight couldn't go on for medical reason and the ref said, it'll be [no decision]," Kauffman said. "Then all of a sudden we start hearing its going to be called a TKO [because Rahman was said to have quit] . ... I think there was something funny going on there in all honesty. James Toney is from California. He has fought there nearly a hundred times. He is their house fighter. For them to break the rules like that, well, you can't change the rules like that."

They should have kept fighting until Rahman bled out.

James Toney may be living in California, but he is not from there. He is actually from Michigan and was a very good football player in high school. I know his former HS football coach.

As for the decision to declare that a TKO and not a no-decision.

I also was under the impression that if the fight was stopped as a result of an accidental headbutt that early, it should have been a ND.

Had it been later in the fight it should have gone to the judges scorecards.

I did not see the fight so I don't know the exact circumstances of the incident. Was the fight stopped or did the officials call it an accidental headbutt during the fight, or did this accidental headbutt stuff come up after the fight was over.

In the event it wasn't ruled an accidental headbutt by the referee and the Dr stopped the fight then it should have been called a TKO. If ti was called a headbutt then it is a ND.

I believe the rule is after 4 rounds it goes to the score cards, before the 4th is complete it is a ND

The Doctor asked Rock no less than 4 times:
Do you want to continue?
Rock would only keep saying "I cant see"
He quit.

All he had to say was "yes" and the fight would have went on.
I've seen fighters with worse cuts over both eyes continue to fight.
Rahman just knew that he was going to be eating those right hands all night, and he wanted a way out.

The Cut itself was not bad enough to stop the fight.
Rahman refused to continue, so he loses. period.
James would have kept on fighting.

Has anyone here seen his fight against Tim Littles?
Much worse cut. Doctor told him he would give James one more round and then call it off, so James went out and put Littles to sleep in a hurry.

If the doctor stops the fight at the end of the third due to accidental head butt it is a ND. If the fighter refuses to go on, it's a TKO.
