Rampage's mental health in doubt
Posted: Friday July 18, 2008 06:24AM ET
Quinton "Rampage" Jackson was hospitalized Wednesday for a mental health evaluation after acquaintances flagged down a patrol car outside his Irvine home, telling police they were concerned for his well-being. It was the second brush with the law in two days for Jackson, who lost his Ultimate Fighting Championship light-heavyweight title July 5 by unanimous decision against underdog Forrest Griffin. In the latest incident, Irvine police were alerted to Jackson's home while on routine patrol in his Woodbridge neighborhood around 4:30 p.m. Acquaintances in the home told officers they were "concerned about his behavior and some remarks he was making," said Lt. Rick Handfield. Jackson, 30, was cooperative when contacted by the police, who took him to an undisclosed hospital for evaluation.

Report Offensive CommentM3ATPLOW: Too be honest with you, I am not a huge MMA fan, but I think it would be a tremendous mistake to go back to the ring if he is suffering mental health issues. When you're suffering from depression, the last thing you need is head trauma, because it will make it worse. If I were on athletic commision, I would definitely not give a boxing or MMA license to anyone suffering from depresion, or any kind of mental illness, because there is no good outcome from that.

Report Offensive Commenta large number of professional athletes suffer from mental illnesses, particularly in high-aggression sports like boxing and football. it's what makes them competitive in the first place. i think the dangers of head trauma take a backseat to the damage caused by sudden wealth and fame without proper guidance on how to manage them responsibly.

Report Offensive CommentBill Platschke proved again what a closed minded moron he is in his little"professor ignorant" statement. I love when these moron "Sports Writers" go outside of their general knowledge and try to speculate on how "DUMB" as he puts it Rampage is. Mental illness is obviously something that is more serious than Bill can understand with his feeble mind. Maybe he should watch the smart a** comments he makes before someone in his life is dramatically affected by mental illness.

There is no way I could talk face to face with Bill Platschke because of the amount of spit that flies out of his mouth when he talks....

Report Offensive CommentHe probably freaked out when he thought he had to face the Horsemen.
I do hope he gets better though. Severe depression is an awful experience and can seldom be overcome without some help.

Where does the 'doubt' come in?
He's messed up in the head. There is a 100% chance of that.
0% chance of doubt.
