GM not cutting Richmond track

Posted: Friday July 18, 2008 07:37AM ET

Richmond International Raceway is not one of the two tracks having contracts not renewed by GM. GM is the title sponsor for the fall NASCAR Sprint Cup race at RIR -- The Chevy Rock and Roll 400. Aimee Turner, spokeswoman for RIR, said Wednesday that Chevy's partnership with the track runs through 2010. That deal includes not only naming rights for the September race, but also Chevy's status as the official vehicle of the track.

When kyle takes the win this fall at Richmond, he will hold up that very cool Chevy rock and roll 400 trophy knowing he won in a Toyota.

So GM quits, so what !! Has anyone seen a "REAL" Chevy, Ford, Dodge, etc. running at a nascar track lately? Drivers race in the same boring Car-of-the-future with different decals.
If they want "REAL" racing have the old stock body Chevy, Fords, etc. and let them put engines up to 500ci and race. Bring back some go-old-boy racing, not the boring crap nascar has created in the past few years.

I have to agree with Chuckx that racing in NASCAR is not what it used to be. At the same time, reality sets in and I can't see any changes from the current COT as long as Brian France rules the roost, As for GM not dumping Richmond, I wouldn't hold my breath about any track's sponsorship future. GM is in deep cocka and I expect alot more tracks to loose money from GM. Guess we learn top appreciate the good times more every day.

Richmond is the best track on the circuit. Its a smart move on GM's part to continue their association with them.

They should get NASCAR to bring back Rockigham while they're at it. ;)
