Did Manny strike out on purpose?
Posted: Saturday July 19, 2008 09:43AM ET
Former Channel 4 sports anchor Bob Lobel went on the radio yesterday morning and said Manny Ramirez had been fined "six figures" for flooring Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick in Houston June 28. Lobel went on to say club officials suspected Manny's July 6 pinch-hitting appearance against Mariano Rivera - an at-bat in which he looked at three strikes - was his payback for being sanctioned. The story raged on the airwaves and in the blogosphere all day, but Manny either didn't know or didn't care. He was approached by a few media members when he awoke from his nap and said, "No, not talking. I already talked."

Report Offensive CommentWait until he realizes that stunt cost him 5 million or more. No one will pay him 20 million if Boston fails to pick up his option. Your performance is declining Manny. That changes the relationship dynamics a great deal.
Manny being Manny is something you can no longer afford.

Report Offensive CommentYou mean after all that service and hard work he put into the organization, and how he was a team leader at the plate, carried the team in their winning ways, how he was loved by all Bosox fans, and now management has a problem with him?r Are going to let him go? Poor Nomar, treated like shyyt, and thrown away like a used rag, Yes, I said Nomar, and now history is repeating. At least the owners have acknowledged Manny's contribution with this one before they shyyt can him..... In both cases, nomar was injured and it was said by many, apparently for over use of steroids, and manny is getting up there in age,

They need him so much yet they can't wait to kick him out the door. I don't blame them now. He's such a big hitter but probably an even bigger idiot.

You do know that the Angels are paying Hunter $18M per, right? Even in decline, Manny makes Torii look like Melky.

Report Offensive CommentHi RSB.
The guy just wants to know where he stands with the organization, option year to play out, a new long term contract, etc. I've seen Manny striking out before especially when he is looking for something inside. Rivera can do that to a guy, did he do it on purpose, who the heck knows. Manny is what 36 now? I guess he wants to know where he stands re: long term or not. and I guess the pressure had gotten to him re: the secretary.

Report Offensive CommentYou're right Slinky. I shouldn't say that. A Jones got 18 million after completely stinking it up in Atlanta last year. Sometimes there's no rhyme or reason to what each player makes.
Still 20 million and Manny being Manny? That's a high price fro a declining slugger. I think Boston gets a new outfielder over the off season and cuts him loose.
Do they get draft picks if team declines the option?
