Stewart to pick teammate soon

Posted: Wednesday July 23, 2008 08:26AM ET

Tony Stewart says he has not yet finalized a driver to be his teammate at Stewart-Haas Racing next season, but it is a decision he hopes to make soon. Sources have indicated that Ryan Newman is the leading candidate for that ride, but there also are several other drivers available. "There's a lot of drivers that are in the running right now," Stewart said Tuesday during a teleconference with reporters. "It's not narrowed down to just one driver right now."

More interesting news about Tony is....Tony Stewart donates bulletproof K-9 vests...He donated the money to provide 30 vests for the Indiana State Police K-9 unit and 10 for police dogs waiting for vests in Georgia, New Mexico, North Carolina and Minnesota. Susie Jean of Socorro, N.M., requested a grant from the Tony Stewart Foundation for vests for the 14 dogs currently in the Indiana State Police unit.

Is this any better than the original topic?

Tony has a press conference scheduled for Friday at Indy. He'll unveil his car. I'm sure someone will ask about that second team and Tony just might drop a few hints at who it will be.

Foreign Makes Say No To NASCAR

With NASCAR???s domestic mainstays looking to downsize support in light of financial woes, it might seem like a good time for other foreign manufacturers to follow Toyota into the fray and take advantage of a possible power vacuum.

But representatives from several overseas automakers contacted by the Press say that you won???t be seeing their cars at the Daytona 500 or any other NASCAR race in the foreseeable future.

Don't count on it being Truex.....

According to sources close to Martin Truex Jr., Dale Earnhardt, Inc.(DEI) and Truex Jr. have come to a verbal agreement on a contract extension that would ink the #1 Bass Pro Shop driver through the 2011 Sprint Cup Season.

When Mark Martin announced his exit from DEI to drive full-time in 2009 and part-time in 2010 for Hendrick Motorsports, more than $8 million dollars became available to re-sign Truex Jr. Sources also said, the new contract will be the richest ever offered by DEI, surpassing the money paid to Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the final year of his contract with DEI in 2007, and the money paid to Martin for driving a part-time schedule this year.

Truex Jr. and DEI are attempting to work out the final details of the contract, which are said to be minuscule, in time for an announcement next week in Long Pond, PA. The Pocono Raceway is one of the racetracks Truex Jr. calls home, and he would like to make the announcement with the support of his friends and family during the week of the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500. - CaptainThunder
