Is Ortiz MMA's Barry Bonds?

Ortiz may be developing the reputation that he's a guy who is impossible to work with. For some reason, he went public with the claim that he had a done deal with Affliction. MMARated spoke with Affliction COO Michael D. Cohen and it sounds like the upstart MMA company is feeling some UFC-like frustration. Even if the two sides could come to a deal, it appears that the Oct. 11 Affliction 2 card is out for a Ortiz debut. Cohen didn't seem upset when hearing the news that Ortiz may be speaking with the UFC about a return but did say it was surprising considering the bad blood between the fighter and UFC president Dana White. He added that there's no way UFC would pay Ortiz the amount he had asked for from Affliction.

Of course the UFC isn't going to pay him what he is looking for. The people running Affliction would also be fools to pay him a record deal. He's not a t=good enough fighter to command a record deal. But apparently the guys at Affliction are made of money if they can afford to pay Tim Sylvia 800 grand for a 38 second beatdown.

oh....impossible to work with....I thought they were implying HGH and steroid use....

any chance Sylvia took a dive just to grab the quick and easy payout? Maybe he knew he would have lost anyway but more painfully so he went out easy....

regardless of the fact that hes not that good, people still want to see him fight for some reason, he still gets a lot of ppv sales, remember its a business. If you ask Dana White im sure he'd want Kimbo for the sole fact that so many people want to see him fight even though he isnt good.

August 21, 2008  10:26 AM ET

pt21, actually Dana could've had Kimbo. Went the other way with Brock Lesnar. Dana obviously a smart guy.

August 21, 2008  10:28 AM ET

Damnit, forgot the 's on "Dana".

Loki, I doubt he wanted to take a dive. IF he could've won, he would've gotten more. And then he could've stuck it in Dana's face.

Ortiz is becoming much like Mike Tyson - a once dominant fighter who now loses with regularity, but is still able to draw fans who want to see what happens next. While he isnt quite the freak show that Tyson is, he is still more of a spectacle than a fighter.

She is a bimbo. No, they are bimbos. A perfect pair!

Once again I agre with Robert. I don't think Sylvia took a dive. I have more respect for him than that. I just think he was outclassed, as just about anyone fighting Fedor is going to be.

August 21, 2008  04:52 PM ET

800 Grand!!!!!!!!! I can pretty well guarantee that I could last longer than 38 seconds! I am sure I'm far faster than Sylvia and if buddy ever got a chance to hit me.......well, maybe then, game over.

August 21, 2008  04:52 PM ET

No. Unless you mean they both have big heads.

August 21, 2008  10:01 PM ET

Did Ortiz steal Barry Bonds head?

August 22, 2008  12:17 AM ET

He's Bonds in the sense that he is a prima donna and not worth the price nor the headache, and yes, DaMoFo, their cap size is "globe".

I don't personally think he did take a dive. I was just throwing out the possibility for discussion to see what other people thought....

I would certainly be willing to get in the ring with Fedor and as soon as the ref said fight, I would tap the floor and pick up my check on my way out of the cage....

August 22, 2008  08:57 AM ET

Maybe he is Manny rather than Bonds?

And the only problem Ortiz is having right now is trying to actually get some feeling while he's banging Jenna. I don't care if he is hung like a russian race horse, it's still got to be like throwing a hot dog down a hall way. That may be why he is acting strange
