Maybe receiver Chad Johnson can go by the name his head coach hates. The Cincinnati Bengals receiver has legally changed his name to Chad Javon Ocho Cinco in Broward County, Fla., a switch that became official this week, according to several media reports. Johnson, who lives in Miami, didn't return a message left on his cell phone Friday night. "It's something I don't think anyone has ever done before," he told the team's Web site. "Have I ever had a reason for why I do what I do? I'm having fun."

I'm afraid that this shows how smarts and ego are not necessarily one and the same. Maybe if he put as much effort catching footballs as he does in self-promotion and ego building, he'd be both worth the money and the fan adulation.

sweetrl..Yes. But the cold truth is that there about 28 teams that would take him today and be glad of it...

Former Sxer Lloyd Free legally changed his name to World B.Free back in the 70's so this idiot is not the first to do that.

yup. waiting for the chad johnson rule to take effect in the off-season, saying only names appearing on birth certificates are allowed on the back of NFL team jerseys.

matter of time until some NFL scrub sells personal naming rights to his last name otherwise.. nothing like looking down on the field and seeing "pepsi" and "coke" fight it out on special teams.

LOL at pw

True

August 30, 2008  09:00 AM ET

Crazy.

I'm surprised to see people with such limited outlook. What has he done to the nfl to yield such attacks? Change HIS name? Ok, lets berade all the actors that has changed their names, all the married women who have changed their names ...and so on. He changed HIS name not yours. It's funny that people want to tell people what they can or can't do with their lives. Seems more like the accusers lack a life of their own. The fact is he's a hell-of-a ball player, richer than most, young and having fun doing it. When i was coming up that was called the "American Dream." If he was so bad, why won't they grant him a trade? Because they know better than you narrow minded ********do.
P.S. World has done a LOT a community work in and outside of the city, doesn't sound much like an idiot to me BobD.
