Wagner may be out for season

Mets closer Bill Wagner's season is in jeopardy after having to discontinue a throwing session after about 15 pitches between games on Sunday. The Mets said he felt "discomfort'' in his elbow during the session, which followed the Mets' 6-2 loss to the Phillies that narrowed their lead to one game. Wagner will be seen by Mets doctors on Monday. He thought he might be activated as early as Sunday, but now it appears to be a long shot for him to return this season.

Don't the Mets have someone else who can regularly blow saves?

Sir Robin (as himself) | 09/08/08, 07:50 AM

The problem is the relievers have been blowing chances to blow games lately. As some point, the Mets need someone to step up again to lob up a few meatballs. This is getting ridiculous. Philly didn't score a single run in the 9th last night.

Agreed, ergo as a Phillies fan I'm crestfallen. Hey "X" my sister and bro-in-law were in Philly for the game Friday, they texted me a photo of a Yuengling and two cheesesteaks.........****!

I have no idea, and being the baseball 'purist' you are you got me on that. I know they flew into Philly for the weekend.......now you've got me more confused than Chuckie Weis at an all-you-can-eat Crispy Creme festival! Maybe they drove to the game or just watched it in Philly, either way I'd give my left nut for a true Philly cheesesteak! Oh this just in from Chicago where I now reside, Forte is the next Walter Payton and the Bears are going to the Superbowl..............classic Chicago daydreaming!

If I can figure out how to send the image to my computer I'll make it my avatar, I figure that's the best way I can represent the city I was born in and hold dearly. That or a 4-pk of Duracell batteries - j/k! ;-)

I'm not trying to call you out or anything....I just don't think you get get a cheesesteak in Queens....at least not a good one.

September 8, 2008  02:06 PM ET

I think the only thing a Philly fan like me will get in Queens is a shank in the kidneys! I don't mind having errors I make pointed out to me, hell I'm human it's all good.

September 8, 2008  02:13 PM ET

i dont think this comes as such a big shock to the mets. his return has been pushed back multiple times. the pressure is on the offense to score a lot of runs, and the starters to limit the other team so that the mets horrific bullpen is out of the equation

Ummmm....yeeeeaaahhhh. I was thinking when you said they sent you a picture of a steak and lager it was from a bar in Philly while watching the game. If you're telling me they were at Shea, then for the love of god they better have smuggled that stuff in there, b/c they ain't selling it.

September 8, 2008  03:31 PM ET

Luis Ayala closes for them. His stuff is high school stuff.
